Samsung Note 4 Edge for $799 @ Dick Smith ($726.36 with 10% Extra Value DS Gift Card @ Coles)

50

Was after this phone for a long time. IMO it's the highest spec phone considering the other octa-core phones keep only 4 cores active at any given time. 32 bit is the only disappointment I'll have but can leave with it for next 2 yrs.

With extra 10% on Dick Smith Gift Card offer from Coles - $726.36

With extra 10% with TRS - $653.72
OR Use as a business phone, so ~40% saving on tax - ~$430 :))

I wish I got the edge version over the normal version. It was only about $40 more at the time, but the edge version seems to hold it value better.

    • For me it's convenience, the edge function I mean, far far better than S6 edge capability

      • Yeah I read reviews at the time that claimed the battery was worse and the screen is smaller. The edge functionality look gimmicky.

      • In what ways do you use the edge function? I also thought it was a bit gimmicky but always open to hearing other people's opinion.

  • Uhhhh, Exynos 7420 has HMP (Heterogeneous Multi Processing, i.e. what you are saying), Exynos has been supporting HMP since 5260?
Samsung is deliberately not updating 5433 with 64 bit kernal because it'd be unfair for users with Snapdragon 805.
So I wouldn't say it's the best performing SoC (it'd be either A9X, Tegra K1 or Exynos 7420).

Having given an S6 recently, I'd be biased, but AnTuTu benchmark 5.7.1 score of 52000 on power saving mode is impressive.

  • Interesting deal OP. Caused my to deal a bit of research on the Note series. Going overseas soon so can use the TSR cashback. Can anyone sound off on whether I should buy this or the LG G3? Not so fussed about specs but CD card and removable battery are nice.

    • The Note 4 is a better phone in any way than the LG G3.

      • Can you elaborate a little more. Sorry, not really familiar with this phone at all and I've only ever owned a S2 but this seems entirely different.

LG G3 has worse CPU and GPU. Depending on model, RAM as well (2GB on 16GB for LG G3).

Though LG has been better with software updates, that said, I'd go with Note 4 if I were in your position.

      • Cheers, Will go in and physically fondle it as the decider as well as have a look at the Note 4. Seems huge at 5.7".

        • :P that's what she said, heh (actually my gf did say Note series looks too big).

        • yep you need to hold it, had no interest until I held friends one at a Christmas party

        • @Oversimplified:

Just realised that came out so totally wrong.

    • I am planning to go overseas soon too. Any idea how much you get back on a phone? Is it 10% or more ? Sorry for this n00b question.

It's actually $726.36 with the Coles DS cards as it adds 10% instead of reducing the price by 10% so essentially a 9.1% discount.

    799 / 1.1 = 726.36

  • My ex-colleague had ione and constantly complained about the edge side digging into his plams while using .. He is right handed , so it annoyed him everytime he used it …that is why S6 edges were toned down

Take long term usability into consideration

he can use it upside down, little weird with the home button at top. also there's a palm rejection feature.

      • It would be hilarious and a pain to reach the top of the phone to hot back and recent apps button … There is no onscreen buttons to negate the irritating edge , unless u put cm12 on it to enable on screen buttons

  • Someone at ozb tried to sell his for $600, if anyone need bit more lower in price
