Dick Smith 39.5" Full HD LED LCD TV - $349 Point Cook (Vic)

10

I just saw this TV today in the Point Cook store, in Victoria. Sale ends 21st Sept, which is tomorrow!
There were about 8-9 Units left in this point Cook store, not sure if this same 'managers special' is running elsewhere.

I actually bought 2 because I think this is good for this price. One for my mother, and one for my kitchen/dining room. I got a bonus HDMI cable with it, as I purchase one extended warranty for $33 (why not :p I can use it for either TV and its a less fuss warranty claim if I need it.)

I've been looking at 40" TVs for the past few weeks and so Im certain that this is the best price for a decent screen at the moment. Next level up is online sales for TCL, Viano, Aldi and Changhong (all brands that dont give me warm or fuzzy feelings). I was almost ready to pay $450-$500 for a similar TV of this size, as thats whats going at the moment.

This TV was displayed demo in store and I am pretty happy with it for a cheap TV, and reviews online are pretty supportive.

Selling on the Dick Smith online store on sale for $378 TV only or $399 with a bonus chromecast, this sale ALSO ending 21/9/15.

$223 with free shipping in june

OP - a 2 second search of "39.5" would have shown a pile of previous deals for this TV with better pricing.

Plus most reviews state the sound is sub-par.

    • Which is the same with all slim TVs.

It's a good tv. I hooked some PC speakers to them and I have no complaints.

    • I bought one a few weeks ago and the sound drove me nuts , had to buy a soundbar which the combined price would have a got me a much better brand and same size.

      • Good thing is you can still reuse the sound bar :D

dick smith tvs arent great quality.
warranty may be tied to one of the units serial numbers.

But they are cheap TVs, and that's the point. I don't think anyone's going to purchase one of these with the expectation of top level quality.
They're cheap, and the quality is adequate.

Just because it's not a high end TV, doesn't justify a neg

    • I clarified with them, I can use the $35 extended warranty on either of the TV units

After reading the post properly I feel like negging the OP for buying extended warranty.

    • Don't Dick Smith brand electronics come with 3 yrs warranty anyway?

      • only 1 yr but you can extend of course

its a cheap china shit TV… the picture quality is fine… the tuner is what you'd expect… the sound is terrible, but so is ever TV i've ever had… $20 set of pc spks solves that

I'm actually going to pick one up (next time they drop to $200ish) to use with my racing simulator. Sound doesn't matter as I wear wireless 7.1 surround headphones anyway.

          @Where's_That_Cake:

You won't regret it. I use it with my ps3 and it looks as good as my Samsung plasma. No lag from what I can see as well.

        • +3

Yep, mine is basically XBox or Ps4 or laptop all the time and its perfect picture wise, no lag, no adjustments

could not ask for more… if i was picky my panasonic professional set is tad bit better but its not by much

  • EDIT: Nvm

    • Can you confirm whether dick Smith branded electronics get extra warranty/perks?

      • +1

Dicksmith TVs have a 12-month standard warranty. Usually, if the product is faulty within the 1st month, it is considered DOA and you get a full replacement on the spot. After the first month, you will be able to get a repair. This needs to be double-checked at the POS, as the procedure might be different depending on the product purchased.

Extended warranty will cover you for electrical damage as well. There are a few perks like the "no lemon guaranteed", which is a full replacement if the product has failed 3 times, automatic full replacement for items below $400 etc. Ask in-store for the little Extended-Warranty booklet if you need more detailed information.

        • Cheers for that.

  • is it just me or the contrast seems to be blown out via hdmi, im using vga atm because of this

  • Agreed makes sense to buy warranty. I recently got my 48.5 incher replaced with a gift card of equivalent value that too after using for 2 years. I purchased 2 yr extended warranty. Hope that helps
