hey guys was surfing budget light forum again as you do an i wanted to get involved in a group buy this one i missed on any ways came across this custom build and group buy. It started like a year ago but they only just finished the torch recently. the coupon gives you $15 USD off…

looking at the specs it looks really good rated up to 1600 lumen with some modding and high amp batteries (18650) or around 1300 lumen stock which makes it one of the most powerful single battery (18650) torch i am guessing.
It does have a lot of modes and custom step downs for heating all custom circuits and drivers these lads that made the light do a lot of modding so i am guessing its a one of kind build. it is based of this flashlight Eagle Eyes A6 CREE XP-L 800LM 4Modes EDC LED Flashlight 18650 which is about $28 AUD on banggood. so this light is only a few dollars extra and you get a crazy lot more for the price! there is also a stainless version of the light but that was a close group no one has given the coupon out.

This is the BLF link http://budgetlightforum.com/node/36667 and some one tested one on youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eZbd_5t-pok

Reading on that forum hurts my eyes lol so many specs to read about!

  • As a BLF user, everytime I see a flashlight deal on here, I just think it's spam and nonsense

    • Why? Rubbish lights?

      • This time you cant think it was made by our own lol i am reading through the replies and i have read so many pages people seem, to be happy but a few issue with scratches and people not using high drain batteries so they don't get all the lumen but that is about it. have you brought one?

  • i've just bought the nitecore mh20. Which one is brighter this one or the nitecore?

    • +1

I would say this light but the nitecore will be more finished and polished

    • +1

Great little light the mh20 isn't it. I have one too and love it. Just wish the tint was a little more neutral.

  • +2

This flashlight/torch is a first in many ways for a ready made light.
Groundbreaking are its user interface, its performance, its driver, and many other aspects.
If interested read the OP & thread at BudgetLightForum):
    http://budgetlightforum.com/node/36667

In summary: it is a Superb single 18650 cell/battery flashlight/torch.

Even used with ordinary Samsung/LG/Panasonic/Sanyo based 18650 batteries (as distinct from High Drain/High Continuos Discharge current batteries)
you will get about 1300 or more Lumens ANSI OTF output/brighteness).
If used with High Drain/High Continuos Discharge current 18650 batteries you will get more than 1300 Lumens ANSI OTF output.
You can use Protected & Unprotected 18650 Batteries (Protected will give a slightly lower output).
It also has LVP (Low Voltage Protection/Indication) at about 2.8V
"Low-voltage protection will progressively step down the output at about 2.8V, and the light will shut itself off when even the
    lowest level gets below 2.8V."

DO NOT use with xxxxFIRE 18650 batteries.

ONLY use with Samsung/LG/Panasonic/Sanyo based 18650 batteries (Protected or UnProtected).
If you are new to 18650 batteries, then use Protected Samsung/LG/Panasonic/Sanyo based 18650 batteries.

IMPORTANT WARNING: You should NEVER use this light in its HIGHER Outputs UNLESS you are holding it.
By holding it you are acting as a heatsink, therefore drawing heat away from it.
In TURBO mode it will go down to the next lower brightness after 45 seconds (to protect the circuitry).

    DO NOT Leave it unattended.

This is a HIGH PERFORMANCE flashlight/torch that MUST BE USED & TREATED WITH RESPECT.
It MUST NOT be given to children, or to uneducated users.

    Best Regards,
    George

Read the coupon as GOLFARSE .. I'm too far in!

  • +1

Essentially this is a drag light. It will get very hot if you use the high settings. Its designed that way, its pushing the envelope on whats possible. For most people completely unnecessary. Just putting the specs into perspective. If you buy this, buy a GENUINE good battery.

The warning above is very real. Its been designed and speced by flash light nutters and this is a manufacturer building what they themselves have been modding for years. Its not for kids, its not for cheap nasty batteries. No Australian retailer would sell these, the risks would make their legal advisers squirm.

  • +1

I didn't realise that there was this sub-culture of people "hotting up" torches, can these mods be done with the $2.99 torches ?

    • +1

Usually no, because the cheaper torches can't be taken apart without breaking them. Also, higher power means more heat generated by the driver circuit and by the LED, so you want a torch with good heatsinking - something the cheaper torches usually lack.

If you want to give it a try yourself, I can recommend the Trustfire Z8 (about $20-$25) as a good start. I modded one of these with this driver, but I had to file it down a lot to make it fit, the diameter was too big, but this was the only driver I could find with the features I wanted (including AA compatibility):
      http://www.dx.com/p/3w-5w-20-mode-regulated-circuit-board-fo…

    • well yes you can… but they got this light cheap apparently this led its self is $15 USD so it would be hard to be the price of 25 USD cause the torch is full customization like you can program the steps down and the lumen at each brightness your self… plus the clip is worth like $15 USD retail so to make this light would cost a lot more… they put in extra heat sinking also.

  • +1

no doubt this will be a good torch and looks compact. What are the amps on the various modes?

    • i don't have those specs cause i am not sure on the final productions but turbo is around 5 amps from what i know

    • hey mate there is a new thread it appears to be this with out modding
      Mode group 1:
      1: 0.45 lm / 2.66 mA / 39 days
      2: 10.1 lm / 11.87 mA / 8.7 days
      3: 64.5 lm / 139 mA / 18 hours
      4: 187 lm / 385 mA ? / 6.5 hours
      5: 417 lm / 1.48 A ? / 100 minutes
      6: 798 lm / 2.96 A ? / 50 minutes
      7: 1386 lm / 5.65 A ? / 26 minutes
      Mode group 2:
      1: 9.72 lm / 11.87 mA / 8.7 days
      2: 139 lm / ? / ?
      3: 578 lm / ? / ?
      4: 1386 lm / 5.65 A ? / 26 minutes

      • Yes, factory 5 amps is not modded, but 5 amps is heavily modded territory though. The $2.99 lights might hit 1 or 1.5amps, more likely under 1. A good stock light might hit 2.5amps in turbo mode and generate a good amount of heat. The LED will need to step down from turbo mode to cool off. Cree, the maker of the LED itself, limits stats to those given at 3 amps. I personally wouldnt push an XPL over 7amps but I would only do it because I can, not for any real useful purpose.

Seriously, 5amps is killer. Ive been watching this light since its inception. I have 30+ torches, some over 2000 lumens from a single LED, I passed on this light. I did buy the 3 amp X6SE instead, bigger head, better heat management and more USEFUL light.

  • Why would you need a 1300lm+ torch?

    • you have a valid point my everyday carry is about 500 lumen and that gets the job done but i do have a 2000 lumen 4 led torch that is just for fun! as the maker said he used it on medium mode always with no problem but they just threw in a turbo for fun.

    • +1

      Non physical tactical weapon.
1,000+ lumens on strobe discourages all but the most foolhardy.

  • +1

It's a great deal, but not for non-flashaholics IMO… The average person would be better off with a rechargeable 18650 flashlight from Olight, Nitecore, Fenix, etc. Sadly that stuff is restricted by MAP and can't be discounted openly at somewhere like Ozbargain.

    • it can just don't get caught lol if you see a deal on nitecore tm16 let me know please 4000 lumen seems great!

      • +1

No I mean, it can't be shared openly. Some vendors do discount these products, but if they get caught the manufacturer punishes them (?). So it's done hush hush some places in the web.

        I'll PM you.

        • There was recently a decent deal on the MH20 (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/211709).. Are there better deals available somewhere discreet? Any tips would be greatly appreciated!

        • @simulacrum: Actually that's the best price I'm aware of for it atm, so it's a good deal!

        • @simulacrum: that is cheap! i haven't seen it cheaper any where but i have not been looking at that model. what do you need it for? check out the jetbeam 3m pro? they are about the same price now i think.

        • @raven2000:

Good to know! I pulled the trigger on it yesterday.. Just wanted to make sure I hadn't missed a better deal.

        • @aussieprepper: "need" might not be the right word :p

My only flashlight at the moment is a 2xAA headlamp i bought years ago from a bargain bin. So figured the mh20 would serve as an all-purpose little edc type flashlight with a decent throw if needed. I've already bought it so hopefully I'll be happy with it when it arrives. Unfortunately the 18650s I bought at the same time seem to be coming from a different warehouse and might arrive a few weeks later!

        • +1

@simulacrum: yea you will love it and then you become one of us lol next minute you will be flooded with lights lol

      • Your PMs are disabled btw.

        • yea i think i need to be a full member to get pm? i had seen the tm16 for $115 USD on gearbest a few weeks back

        • my bad i fixed it thanks!

  • This referral link bs needs review.
It's a simple way for communities like this to pay it forward for those that bother to go to the effort of sharing their knowledge/experience with those of equal interest!
One of my two unpublished comments was far more than just a link, yet that information is gone now and you all are the one's at a loss for lost of access to that information.
Sorry to those that I've replied to and subsequently had the comments censored here, just the way it is apparently, well until as a collective community, we speak up.

MODs etc, this is NOT an attack, yet an expression of exasperation over a lack of common sense in this policy.

  • Don't buy from this seller, I didn't receive my item or the money. Now I have open dispute with paypal

  • I have received my item today. This flashlight is very very good. Better light than the nitecore MH20 (also received today). The light is yellowish (5500k?) compared to the MH20 which has no yellow tone (6500k?). The form factor is way better than the MH20, more compact but the MH20 is smarter, it has memory and usb charging.

    • Did you buy both? what charger did you buy for the batteries for the BLF A6? i ordered mine over 3 weeks ago i am still waiting i really want to play with it. did you buy high drain 18650s?

ummm 5500k tint should be pretty white i have heard that some people where getting the wrong colour tints with there orders. how white does it look?

      https://ledlampinchina.files.wordpress.com/2014/11/color-tem…

check the link and tell me please?

  • Yes I bought both, when this deal was posted. I'm becoming a flashlights collector… . I'm not sure about high drain batteries. I'm using this: https://www.fasttech.com/p/1143802 and this https://www.fasttech.com/p/1905300 batteries. Both protected and unprotected batteries work well. The BLF flashlight definitely has a yellow tone, maybe 4500k in your pic. The white light of the nitecore MH20 makes me feel uncomfortable so I like the BLF more. Also the BLF fits the pocket like a pen, whereas the nitecore is too thick.

  • whats the tint of the mh20? maybe banggood sent you out the wrong version? i own a set of the Sanyo UR18650F 18650 2600mAh they are a great battery old school but a solid choice!

i just looked up the specs these look good Authentic Sanyo NCR18650BF but both batteries are a bit under power to run the flashlight at max i think cause the max drain voltage is around 4-4.5amps i think this light can push up to 6 amps but the difference will not be big…

Remember the Nitecore will handle its self better so that is why it is bigger the cooling will be much more efficient and run times.

  • I'm not sure if the mh20 has different color temperatures. Maybe they only have white. The Nitecore takes maybe 15s to build up heat in turbo while the BLF's head was heated up instantly. Having said that the BLF is a bit longer so I can hold it more comfortably by avoiding the hot head. I've just discovered the modes in the BLF. Now this light wins hands down because I can access the memory mode, battery check, going backward and other hidden stuffs. This light is amazing.

    • hahaha yea its good remember there are two modes one with 7 modes and one with 4. now you are hooked on torches!

      • Thank you

        • hey mate i got mine and it says 5a tint but it a bit yellow more then i though i will let the light run for a while and see how it goes because i have been using nitecore lights so much maybe i am just so use to the whiter tints… but yea it is bright!

        • @aussieprepper:I'm glad it's yellow, otherwise my 2 lights would be identical. But yes I prefer yellow :P

        • @hdieu: it doesn't feel right to me i will ask the boys on budget light forum to make sure

        • @aussieprepper: I bought another one. This one has a white tint like almost the same as the nitecore

        • @hdieu: hahaha me to i have a code for the UN-anodized one that is the silver one if you need it but i cant share it here i brought one of them in the 3D tint so my black is in A6 tint and silver one is 3D but i didn't get the other tint!
