Sure glad I paid $75 last month just for miracast >:/

    • Whats your review?

It works really well? I dunno. You swipe the charm thing, click 'present' and the SP3 screen appears on the tv/projector like three seconds later. No network hassles or cables.

I've only used it to throw youtube (and ABC kids via iview) to my tv, and to present a boring powerpoint about not making boring powerpoints to people who make boring powerpoints but we would like them to make less boring powerpoints.

Youtube worked fine, as did ABC.

Powerpoint worked fine until it collapsed into a powerpoint singularity and created a black hole which could potentially destroy the universe in a very boring manner. Powerpoint.

(this is for the Microsoft dongle thing and using a SP3, btw)

I gave you a vote for making me laugh. :)

One of the biggest pluses of the Miracast is that it has WIFI-direct which means you don't need a wifi network to use it.

That comes in really handy if you are travelling or visiting friends and just want to plug it into a TV and start streaming without knowing their wifi.

      I presume this device doesn't have wifi-direct..

      • It would have to, it can't be miracast compliant unless it does wifi-direct.

It could just be garbage, though :)

  • Now with ac which I assume means plenty more bandwidth, how is the streaming of higher but rate fhd videos? And also screen casting.

  • What does this mean: "Support the wired Internet, with AP function, can be used as a WiFi hotspot."
From what I can see it doesn't have a wired ethernet port?

    • No it doesn't. They're all wifi. It supports faster 5Ghz wifi unlike chromecast. (There is a cheaper 2.4Ghz only version).

I assume these don't support chromecasting apps like iview, youtube etc? (I.e. chromecast gets a link to the stream & plays it directly instead of needing it to goto your device first)

    • I think it refers to the device acting as a repeater. An example would be the dongle (plugged into tv) connecting to a hotels WiFi then retransmitting the signal so that your devices can still access internet.

  • I have a similar one to this, and a Chromecast. This beats the Chromecast in terms of flexibility, and speed.

    • +1

Can you expand on the flexibility part? I don't have either so kinda weighing up this and a Chromecast?

      • +1

Chromecast is locked to the Google world - they understandably want to make money by using Google Play. There are ways to bypass this, but they are mostly hacks, and Google regularly updates the Chromecast firmware to stop these hacks.

This one supports generic protocols (DLNA, Miracast, Airplay) which means it is more flexible, and work without any hacks.

I found this also faster as it has ac support (mentioned above).

        • Would this work with a Seagate Central? I have a Seagate Central connected (via ethernet) to my wireless router.

I have a Chromecast which I can stream video from the Seagate Central using my iPhone (and Seagate app). Does this work in a similar way?

  • can this device replicate the screen of a tablet (Samsung Note 10.1, or note 8.0) like chromecast can?

    • +2

      Yes, and the iPad, too.

Purchased!! I recently bought two cheomecasts. They are awesome but I really find them annoying to control.
It can often drop out even though it's in the same room as the wifi/router.
The app has to be up to scratch to offer quality control features.

I originally wasn't able to watch Presto through AirPlay on Apple TV , so I got the chromecast and it worked ok. But I often went to pause the movie and it sometimes would not be on the same page on my phone as it was on TV. Same for Netflix.
So I would have to launch a different show or go to YouTube and start a new cast, but to stop the old show(even just to pause for 5 mins).

This means having to recast your show to play again and it often wasn't in the same spot as you left off, so you have to fast forward .
This is probably the app developers fault …

However I found out that these apps like Presto have been updated to work with Apple TV. So I found out that it works REALY well on AirPlay in comparison to chromecast. You can see a play/pause function on my iPhone's lock screen and you can use your Apple TV remote to fast forward and rewind.

I'm getting this because it's cheap and hopefully the AC wireless is a useful feature for faster streaming and higher quality.

Thing of selling one of my Chromecasts…. I'll keep one as they're still useful to quickly cast a chrome tab from laptop or watch a YouTube video I n the kitchen

  • can this display a desktop on laptop? also does it stream video (eg, a video file on desktop through VLC) well?

    • +1

If it's anything like the old ver, you can install an app+driver in Windows & the dongle acts like a secondary display in which you choose to mirror or extend your desktop.

  • Was waiting for the 5Ghz ver. to be released. Hopefully there is a significant improvement in performance over the 2.4Ghz ver. now that it utilises AC WiFi tech.

  • How does this compare to the Microsoft Wireless Display Adapter to mirror a laptop to TV?
Is it reliable for a business environment?

  • So can I put a 720p or 1080p MKV file on my fast new Android smartphone with miracast and 802.11ac and and stream it to my TV, with audio, and the audio being in sync?

This other company Troncast was spamming the xda-developers forum with a review of their device, with my Redmi Note 2 phone: http://forum.xda-developers.com/redmi-note-2/general/xiaomi-…

But they don't talk about audio.

And their device is $47: http://www.geekbuying.com/item/Tronsmart-T1000-Plus-Ezcast-D…

  • has price gone up on this even with code its still more then $18.99US

Anyone had theirs shipped yet? Mine still says processing.

    • Mine too, I've already opened a ticket… I don't mind waiting, but the confirmation email did say it would be processed immediately…

      • I just opened a ticket too, did you get a reply yet?

        • The next day the status was changed to shipped out, and I have a tracking number. However I can't work out who it is with, the number begins with CA.

so is 2.4/5Ghz model's of all these wifi display dongles worth almost double the price? i heard the 2.4 only models have trouble with streaming proper 1080p high bitrate video, can't find many reviews on newer models just want something easy to stream HD video from laptop/tablet to tv if the cheaper 2.4 models do that fine then will just get one of those.

    • I'll like to know the answer to this too

  • so has anybody received this yet? its back down to $18.99 with coupon deal so thinking i might just take the chance and order one

  • wow this thing sucks big time, even though its advertised as 2.4/5g it will only broadcast on 1 or the other not both, so if you have device that only picks up 2.4g networks it will not see the easycast till you go into its settings and change it back to connect to the 2.4g network, also only does 1080p/30 if you want 60fps has to be 720p,also likes to reboot itself everytime you change any settings so sometimes devices connected to it will lose IP and will not connect back to it till you go and disconnect from it in your network settings then connect again. very finicky thing maybe i just expected more from it

  • +1

So I went the cheaper option (Only 2.4g) and it arrived on the weekend. It works but not that smooth. Tried via airplay and the 720p video via YouTube stutters. Only butrate options on the unit are:

    • 720p @ 60fps
    • 1080p @ 30fps
    • 1080p @ 60fps

Even on the lowest setting it stutters which is no good. Not sure why they don't offer 720p @ 30fps.

  • +2

Mine arrived yesterday. IOS devices connect to it & it connects to router (sometimes take a few attempts though). But, I can't get it to mirror (Airplay). Looks like I got a dud.

    • Yeah I had the same frustrating experience, however the latest firmware supports IOS 9.1 and it now works.

I wanted it to send my PC screen to the TV but it does not work with win7.

EDIT. the firmware changes the behaviour of the button. If you want it to switch between Mirracast/Airplay you will need to change the setting for default startup to Miracast and reboot it.

double click the button to change between 2.4 and 5ghz

Some documentation would have been nice.

The ieasycast.com site on the box is not even registered !

  • still received mine yet :( but now from reading these quick reviews, I don't want to get it anymore.. it'll most probably be a dud

    • +1

That is one of the saddest comments that I have ever read on OzBargain. :(

Maybe employ the power of positive thinking?

      Here to help…

As China-sellers go, the fortunes of GearBest on OzBargain are best compared to the seemingly hapless owners of an animal shelter located next to a certain type of restaurant.
Occasionally, one of their cute charges escapes/goes missing. :(

Regard your new EasyCast (if/when it arrives) as a (very) lucky Rescue Dog / cute Pound Puppy.

Just love it the way it is and maybe it will surprise you. :)

      You're welcome, 888.

      Looking forward to your review!
