      • Just for testing purposes but it works fine nevertheless.

    • ahah u must have quite a large "popcorn" collection stored in those 8TB !

      • Linux distros I'll wager. ;)

  • I am not a tech buff by any means, so sorry if this sounds silly.
been running TV for 2 weeks, I think its very poor.
1.normal channel picture through foxtel, 7,9,10, is very poor.
2.sound quality is very very poor, & the voice is not matched to the picture
    3. it wont let me perform the update
    4. I cant watch Netflix though the TV, do you need to use an external device for this?

I think this TV will get returned as we are very disappointed.

Just do the update. The update addresses most the problems you mentioned.

It will let you do the update if you follow the instructions on the website. The instructions are easy to understand but I will break it down so that it's even easier for you.

      1) Get a USB stick (it doesn't matter about the size even though the website mentions you need 4GB or less).

      2) Format the USB stick as FAT32 in Windows, OSX or Linux.

      3) Download the .rar file with the firmware update http://www.bauhn.com.au/_media/Software%20Updates/12-sept-20…

      4) Unrar the file using a program such as Winrar (you will need to download this if you haven't got it already).

      5) Move the uncompressed file (not the file you downloaded, but the MstarUpgrade.bin file that you uncompressed from the file you downloaded) into the freshly formatted FAT32 USB stick.

      6) Put USB drive into TV (if it's on or off it doesn't matter).

      7) Turn TV on and put the source as FTA TV.

      8) Get angry that the picture quality sucks and the audio doesn't sync up.

      9) Press the 'Smart Hub' button on your remote. Then navigate to and enter the 'Channels' tab in the bottom right corner of the 'Smart Hub' screen.

      10) Select 'Software Update (USB)' and press OK.

      11) Wait for the TV to do the update, it will take a few minutes then turn off and back on again.

Also the sound quality is poor out of the box, but if you change the sound properties to 'Surround Sound - on' it's actually pretty acceptable. I still run a separate amp and surround setup when I want to, but the inbuilt speakers are pretty good when the surround sound option is turned on.

thank you for your information, I now know it would not load as I had it still on an HDMI input, all good, got the update done.
Although the standard picture has greatly improved, & the voice now matches the pictures,
I still feel the picture is not as sharp as it could be. its like it out of focus, then it suddenly catches up, also the dark colours look kind of like a cartoon effect sometimes.
I put on UFC in HD through my foxtel box, the tv could not keep up with the motion, it was not even watchable.
I know it was a cheap tv, but I think I might bight the bullet & change it for something else
was looking at this UA65HU7200 Samsung for $2100

Turn off motion flow and noise reduction.

If there's one this this panel can't be faulted on it's the image quality when set up right.

        • @c0balt:
Well yet again you are some sort of wizard, I have now went from wanting to bin the TV to , delighted with Tv, thank u

Do you have any other tip I kneed to know ?

  • Has anyone been able to install Netflix on this TV. That's one way of getting 4k content (the only other way is maybe streaming from youtube app on TV) ?

    • Been confirmed on the WP forums that the youtube app doesn't load 4K, and 4K content can't be played by the internal processor.

The only real way to get 4K content at the moment on the TV is to hook up a PC to the TV and watch youtube, netflix or play games that way.

I managed to get 4K at 60hz using a DL DVI-D to HDMI 1.4 cable, and also 4K 60hz using a HDMI type c to type a cable - both from my Nvidia 970 GPU.

The cables were $5-7 each from MSY for 3m.

(note the above picture is wrong as it shows a micro HDMI connector but the actual product has a mini/type c connector)

I would have preferred to have low input lag scaling up from 1080p, but it's pretty bad at around 200ms. The input lag at 4K is much better, but I can't drive new games at 4K with the settings I would like.

There's adapters out there that upscale 1080p to 4K, which could potentially make this TV usable for console gaming (as it may reduce the input lag), but they currently only work for 1080p at 24,25 and 30hz (not 60hz).

      • 4:2:0 colour space?

        • Yep.

But I do think it's capable of more, just not with the current set of drivers and/or the el-cheapo DL DVI-D to HDMI cable that I'm using.

It took me a while to get 4K at 60hz to display and stick. The Nvidia drivers are really poor at doing this. It took many, many rounds of setting a custom resolution + timing just to even get it to display 4K 60hz as the Nvidia Control Panel kept not accepting my setting (would only display 30hz and below even when setting custom timing), or accepting it for a second (would see 60hz pop up then back to 30hz on the display). Then after about an hour I got lucky and did nothing that I wasn't doing before and my settings stuck. So I really don't want to go back and change anything to further test the 422/444 just yet as I really don't want to have to do the dance to get 4K 60HZ again, considering the media I am using it for.

What's worse is the scaling options are moot as I can't over ride panel scaling (it would be great if I could set a game to 1080p and have it scale to 4K in the GPU) so I could play later titles with decent settings, but this never works. Any settings I put in the scaling options always send a native signal to the TV.

If I could find a high speed type c to type a HDMI cable for a decent price I would try that. By then Nvidia will probably fix their drivers too.

It's just too early for me to say this TV can't display a 422 or 444 4K 60HZ source given my hardware and the dodgy drivers.
