    Wish I had the $$$ to consider a $2K tumble-dryer a bargain.

Just repaired my LG combo for the second time, those Miele's wouldn't offer me the same excuse to tinker

Three different Miele appliances here. Front loader, dishwasher, and induction cook top. All top of the range at the time (maybe 5 years ago). All have had issues from day one. Each night now I need to dry the drip tray in the dishwasher to avoid the alarm going off. It's leaking in there somewhere but they haven't been able to work out where. I know there are people who love their Miele gear, but as I wring out the cloth in the sink, I can't help but wish we'd got an Asko (what I wanted, and was slightly cheaper) or (for a third the price) simply another Dishlex to replace the old one.

    • People assume Miele is a high quality product because it's expensive. But failure rates for Miele are just as high as many other brands. And every brand has a dud model now and then. Sorry to hear about your bad experience. my current dishwasher is Bosch and it's been good for 5 years. Previous one was Dishlex and it broke 3 times in 5 years before I got rid of it. Last failure was a piece of wire supplying the heating element literally caught fire.

at least if something catches fire in a dishwasher, it may be able to put itself out…. ;-)

But yeah, I know/hope that my experience is perhaps the unusual one where I have issues with three out of three different products from the same manufacturer. My wife wanted to get them not because they were expensive, but because she had a number of friends who thought they were the best things ever. So again, maybe we have been unlucky.

The old Dishlex we had was brilliant. We basically upgraded as it was over ten years old and didn't dry dishes too well at the end of the cycle. Gave it to some friends, and last I heard it was still working. The Miele turned out to not be much better at drying even though at the end of a cycle it automatically opens the door to let moisture escape. One of the best features the Dishlex had was a light inside…. thought that was great. Miss that, and of course not having to mop up the water each night. One weekend I'm going to remove the drip tray on the Miele dishwasher, put it on my work bench so I can see under it, and run it to work out exactly where it's leaking. I suspect it's probably a leaking pipe…..
