Well, the specs are not the top but for $79 you get 1 month of Internet (5gb)and it has 3G so can be used for phone calls/sms. There is also gps, so could be used as a satnav. Unlocking can be done easily for $1.50 on eBay. So if you need a cheap tablet seems pretty good. Also it has 1gb ram, which is better than the wifi version.

    On thing you mentioned in the title is wrong you cannot use this table as phone because this data is only as mobile broadband, i confirmed and checked this tablet on optus shop 3G is only worked as mobile broadband for the tablet.

  the problem isnt the resolution or rest of the spec, its the bloody screen its so white washed worse than most china tabs, it is just not usable which renders rest of the spec pointless, and i have used some terrible tablets.

  anyone who even considers getting this, have a look at any review videos on youtube

    100% agree with Balls…
    I got given this and I'd rather the person give me a cold than this tablet.
    Everything about it is designed to create a feeling of buyers remorse.
    If this is the aim for Alcatel with this product they have done an amazing job and should be congratulated.
    Also definitely only 512MB RAM

  also playing on the shop display model i was wondering why it lagged so bad just on stock apps….then i checked the ram…bam…its only 512mb!! false advertising as well!

  Its been 59 dollars at Telstra ebay for months even at that price i wouldn't touch it for a few bob more buy a chuwi vi8.

    That is the wifi only. Chuwi is much better of course, but also $40 more.

    I have unlocked other Alcatel in the past, but I can't don't personally know of anyone currently. I could see there were many on eBay, perhaps just look at their feedback
