  • Does this have a cable internet coaxial port? I am still stuck on shitty copper cable. I get 100 Mbps download speeds, but only 1.5 Mbps upload.

    • +1

No coax, only telephone line in port. You could still use this with your existing modem as a router only.

    • If your ISP caps upload speeds at 2Mbps there isn't much you can do about that besides changing your plan/service…

    • upload speed is quite normal.
unless you have NBN which will be 30+mbps i believe?

  • Stupid question, But does this work with adsl 1?

    • +2

      Yes it does.

    • +1

There's an ADSL option in the router software, so yes it will.

  • If you do not need the VDSL function for NBN, the $259 Dlink DSL-2900AL in this deal is the alternative.

    • Does the 2900AL have any good features not found in this D7000?

      • Both have mixed review. It is really depends on individual preference. I would give the 2900AL a chance because I am very disappointed about my current D6300 and not willing to give Netgear another chance.

        • Thanks, your opinion is appreciated. From what I've read about the D7000 (on Whirlpool, etc), a few people have had issues, other love it. It's great we have a few choices :)

VDSL function would be good for use on NBN FTTN.

  • Would this be better than the DSL-AC68U? I like that the 68U has OpenVPN client as well as server. I can only see VPN server mentioned on the d7000. Does it support OpenVPN client?

    • The stock D7000 has only OpenVPN server.

Thanks tfb, Officeworks beat it by 5% for $239.78

      I did the same :)

At the checkout I got twenty questions about the price match (was DSE offering 1 year warranty, did they have stock, etc). I short-cut the inquisition by showing them the order confirmation that bringyadogalong posted in NoPantsToday's deal. No more questions after that :)

Pretty damned cool the way this place works sometimes. :D

Also did this. No questions asked :)

  • Review on this modem is not the best it seems. Should I get this or tplink D9?

    • I'd get an Asus. I like the web interface of the Asus routers and the performance is really good. Previous Netgear routers had average interfaces.

      • Having set mine up on the weekend, I am underwhelmed by the interface. It's certainly not as sleek as the case design, and there's plenty of wasted potential in the extra features like USB sharing and Guest Wi-Fi.

It's decent enough as a home modem/router, but the Advanced options are underwhelming. At best I'd say out-of-the-box it is "adequate".

Cheers! Spewing I missed out on the previous deal so snapped this one up as soon as I saw it. See how it goes compared to my Netgear N750.

    Deal extended for another day!

  • Any reason I should get this when I have a 6 year old Billion 7404 VGPX? Fully functional?

    • +2

Don't buy what you don't need. If you're using your router mainly just for internet you won't see any difference. ADSL2+ only goes up to 24Mbps, and that's if you're living right next to the exch. Most older routers have 100Mbps on wireless (Or gigabit ethernet). If you're transferring massive files across your network (say from computer to computer) you might see some improvement.
Be happy and save money :)
