The hardware beats the Moto G 3rd gen to death.

Very very interested but no NFC (same to Moto G 3rd gen) and no 4G 700MHZ holds me from pulling the trigger…

  • +1

Please I request all OPs or all OZ bargainers to mention the 4G frequencies in TELSTRA, Optus or Voda network supported form in Phone or electronic item deals that use mobile network, that way makes it easier for non-technical audience we have at OZ bargain community

    • -5

umm no. if you're going to buy a product, it's your own responsibility to figure out if it works for you.

      • -4

if you don't feel like contributing its your choice.

        • Why you both get so many down votes?

        • -3

@claud0902: bcoz someone not thinking straight

      • unhelpful comment mate

    • -2

It takes 2 seconds to google what bands each service provider uses and where. Stop being lazy.

      • +6

youre both assuming that people are even aware that bands even matter

most people think that a phone works out of the box

So they wont even know that they need to google this information to begin with if someone tell them it may not work on their carrier

        • -5

The difference is that sajidmib knows what he needs to look for, but would rather be spoonfed.

If someone came in with no clue, I'm sure the community would be happy to help.

        • +6

@joeflacco: the thing is that what he was suggesting also benefits the rest of the community, particularly the ones who need help the most

so get off your narrow minded conceited high horse

          learn to read

        • -3

@furythree: Well the ones who need it can ask.

          Weeb flog.

  • +21

We should make a wiki somewhere that can be attached to any phone deal where all the supported frequencies in Australia can be easily referenced.

  • available 21/09/15, so the phone will arrive around October?

  • Why the (profanity) no NFC? I don't (profanity) care if I pay a few dollars more for it.

    • we cant all afford luxuries like NFC.

    • +7

Xiaomi had NFC in the Mi3, then dropped it when they figured out that only 1% of customers actually used it. I bought the Mi3 specifically because it has NFC, then found that NFC is actually fairly useless (to me) anyway. In hindsight, I should have bought the Mi4 with IR blaster (for remote control empulation) and no NFC; that would have been more useful (to me).

    • +1

Apart from the NFC tags for setting up automated tasks, I don't think there is any other uses for NFC on a phone atm. As such, there really isn't a point on including NFC into phones.

      • +1

Some other uses that are getting more common are connecting with bluetooth speakers & connecting to cameras (easy transfer & sharing of photos, and remote controlling the camera). It saves needing to scan/search for devices, putting in the password etc.

        • remote controlling the camera

I believe this is more to do with bluetooth, but I suppose NFC tags can be used to pair the camera and phone.

easy transfer & sharing of photos

I really want to know how to do this, I've had several phones with NFC but could not figure out how to do it, tried to transfer a file via NFC between an S3 and a G Flex before but it didn't seem to have NFC sharing under the "Share" menu.

        • @ProjectZero:
To do the camera functions you usually need to:
          1) download an install the camera manufacturer's app
          2) Pair the device to the camera (traditionally, search for the WiFi network (not BT) that the camera is broadcasting)
          3) Start the app
          4) Play with the controls/settings

The NFC tag built into the phone will make the pairing each time a lot faster.

I'm not having a go at you, but you should read the manual (or YouTube it) because each brand I have played with (Sony, Olympus, Fuji) is always slightly different. Some are terrible. Some are OK.

  • Tempted to get rid of my Z3 and get a cheaper phone like this… but the RAM is holding me back abit… I don't care how optimised memory handling is on Android, I prefer to have more, currently using around 2.2G on my Z3.

    • why would you do that? the z3 is an upgrade to this in most areas.

      • I don't use alot of the features the Z3 has, this is more practical for me, and it's cheaper.

I currently have a ALDI PAYG for calls and sms only and have a data sim from vodafone, as such I need to carry a phone and a wifi modem around. With this phone, I don't need to carry two things with me at once.

Also, internal memory on the Z3 is 16GB and without being able to install apps directly onto sd card (at least without breaking the features of the Z3), the 32GB on this phone looks very tempting lol.

        • +1

I'm a "power user" and have zero trouble living with 16GB for apps. I never knew it was a supposed prblem. It's not a desktop computer :)

        • @Utopian: It's not an issue for everyone, it's more to do with some of the games that I download… there are some that are about 500MB, with ~11GB usable storage for my Z3 I only have 5GB left, if I didn't have a sd card, all the music and photos would've filled it.

Again, this isn't an issue for everyone, but having the sd would be a selling point imo.

  • This is like 2.5 times the price of the phone on Xiaomi website. I wish i can buy straight from their website but they require a F-code which sounds like an invite code like the Oneplus phone.

    • +1

If you know any friends from India going on vacation in some time , request them to bring one from there , it's dead cheap over there …

Check flipkart.com once the stock is released

      • That's right, In India its expected to be released at a price of INR10,000 (AUD210). So around $70 cheaper.

        • +2

afaik they are not planning on releasing these in india due some on going court case with ericsson.

        • @neu11: just saw an update about the xiaomi phones with meditek processor , hopefully they launch it in india soon as it is easy to import handsets from india thru a few friends …

        • @kamban: link please.

        • @batrarobin: Sorry , I wan't clear - The link said Mediatek based Xiaomi phones are not allowed in India , validating your information .
So I hope this issue is cleared out and they are able to sell in India ( Hopefully in Oz in future too )

    • Don't think it's true. Official price on Xiaomi website is RMB¥999 which is about AU$217, considering the shipping it's not bad deal I guess.

  • lot of resellers selling cheaper and IN STOCK

    i.e here http://www.to2c.com/xiaomi-redmi-note-2.html

    • the link you show there is the 16GB and its a 2.0ghz octa core not the 2.2ghz
      & 178.99 USD approx 244AUD

  • This is a great deal!

I have a Xiaomi Mi Note Pro… this is easily the best phone I've ever owned. My last one is a Sony Z3, and I've owned many others in the past :)

    • +1

where did you get note pro, can you let me know the buying source, cheers

      • My GF got it for me when she was in China! :)

        3000rmb :)

    • 3000 yuan from the website, right? I know its faster than G4, but LG G4 is cheaper, better camera…

  • Anyone dealt with Geek Buying's warranty before?

    • +3

Had a hassle free process when returning a phone to them before. Described to them the problem, made a video showing the problem, sent the phone over, and in about a week I got a full refund.

      • +1

That's good to hear. I reckon a lot of people will be put off from buying due to after sales hassles.

Did they reimburse you for the return shipping though? It would be quite expensive I'd imagine, due to the battery in the phone, no?

      • Cool, did they cover your shipping costs as well?

      • do they charge USD?

the AUD is awful atm, so if for example you buy in USD > AUD and than try to get refund you would likely lose a lot of money in the process. just fyi.

        • Unfortunately it's USD only.

        • A lot of money?

      • how did you manage to ship the phone back? which courier did you use?

        • They basically gave me a sticker to print out for express postage and paid for shipping back. I'm not sure if that's how they still do it but that's what it was like about a year and a bit ago when I returned the phone. It was an old Star MTK6582 phone that had screen issues.

  • Anyxdeal for ELEPHONE VOWNEY?

    • +1

Given my experience with Elephone P7000 - supposedly their flagship phone for 2015, I won't be buying another phone from them.

I would recommend you have a look at their bbs forum and see how they basically dropped this phone and ran - if I had my time again and knew that this phone was on the horizon for the price, I would buy the Xiaomi in a heartbeat. Elephone was rushed to market with knowledge they had P8000 and Vowney on the horizon - too many false promises.

  • Anyone have past experience with them? What's the shipping time like?

    • +1

Free shipping takes 3 or 4 weeks. TNT and DHl are about 3-4 business days and EMS is about a week.

  • -2

Please note: there is one significant known issue: the battery will not last long when the screen is on. 33% battery drop in an hour when browsing websites. Hoping the new firmware will fix that soon.

    • That's kind of a big deal.

    • +1

I think you are talking about Note 1 but not just released Note 2 in this deal.

      • One of my friend in China got it for about 3 days. The screen consume a lot of power compared to others like wlan or standby, even all the active and background softwares only consume equal 1/3 of the battery used by screen . If you can read Chinese, try google it.

  • wait…$278.10?

seriously the top model 16G is 999 peoples dollar, it should be around 230 in direct rate conversion not 270 consider they get them at wholesale prices plus shipping 30 aud estimated…
    250 is the ideal price
stay away, wait for Aussie dollar to go back.. cause Money Printing in the world will go on.. deflation coming

The biggest draw card for this device would be the ability to run Windows 10 mobile by flashing a dual boot or replacement ROM down the track if the rumor turns out true.

    • +1

wait for Aussie dollar to go back.. cause Money Printing in the world will go on.. deflation coming

      you'll be waiting a while.

afaik, there is a ~250 version, only difference being 16GB rom, 2.0GHz cpu and 550Mhz gpu vs OP version which is 32GB/2.2Ghz/700Mhz.

      • aussie exchange rate lower against RMB cause China devalue its currency means they are not doing well, so they are not buying stuff from AU

Yet, it is because Strong USD, but USD is going south soon, cause strong dollar do them no good in long run

        • One of the reasons for our weak currency is because of the resource boom / commodity price collapse; that kind of boom (for aus) won't ever happen again, not for a long time. Most of it driven by speculation, so whether it has anything to do with China is debatable.

The US feds have been talking about rate hikes for months, they will do it eventually which will cause a lot of money to go flooding back into the US.

I wouldn't hold my breathe on the AUD ever reaching what we've seen for the past 5 years…. for a very long time, what with the mining boom dead; and every other sector.

        • @neu11:

yeah every other sector is pretty much dead in down under economy, thanks to short sighted policies from all THREE governments.

Still, what i bank on is Australia is resource rich and can get farming exports when the food and clean water shortage boom comes.

There will be a unstable period when world wide currency war heats up and US currency risk collapse on debt, then share and bond market crash in the next 6-12 months

Then… There will always be a better device down the track…

        • @jackau:

If America and China goes south, one or both at the same time, I don't think Aus will fare well at all. In fact, regardless of what else is going on around the world if the property market goes bust, it'll truly be up s* creek all the way.

        • @neu11:

Property markets has to go south, for the shake of future Aussies

First batch has arrived at Geekbuying! Pics of the new stock can be found here.

    • Would these be ready to ship soon? Or only certain models?

      • Looks like I'm mistaken. That's the Pro version not the Prime, but they'll look the same except the one in this post is better.

    • hi,
      i bought these long ago.
can you send me my one please :)

      • I'm mistaken. It's actually the Pro and not the Prime.

        • oh god,
i just sent a message to your support team about it. they must think im crazy now lol

        • @kurupted: They think everyone is crazy. They'll probably give you an ETA though.
