"PART H – ACCOUNT CLOSURE AND
      CARD CANCELLATION
      30 Closing the Account
You can request closure of the Account at any time by telling us in writing
or calling us. You must pay the Balance Owing On The Account and any
fees and/or charges payable up to the date of termination, cut in half or
return all Cards on the Account.

There is no mention of a fee upon account closure so I'm guessing there isn't. Many people forget about all the plastic they have and different amounts owing on each so Woolies are banking on the chances many people will be lazy forgetful or actually enjoy using the card to save online. But if you are living in a single household you might not purchase $100+ of goods when you purchase online. I shop a few of times a week (out of habit/routine and want for freshness) and rarely does the amount at the checkout top 50, but due to the frequency of my purchases I probably outlay more than these $100+ bulk buyers but often they are the ones rewarded with 'shop $50 and save $5' or '8 cents on your fuel' etc. when I am spending the same if not more on their goods each month.

It's irritating, maybe if promotions were based on aggregate usage (and not just one off large shops/'in a single transaction') I would be more tempted to use a card and just shop at Woolies or Coles instead they have these 'spend $100 all at once and receive…' promos.

Back to the question terminating the card should be as simple as calling up and giving the flimsy rectangle the snip (provided you don't owe them $$$)

I have also registered for Farron research and I'm pretty sure Woolies was calling out for consumer feedback not so long ago. I have a lot to say pity I'm not in the demos they are targeting so when I completed the provisional (read: data gathering) survey I was told I was not needed. As an aside I have completed over fifty of these 'urgent call for participant' surveys and not once have I been 'suitable' as a candidate for that particular market research (banking, telco, fast food). To this day I don't know whether there is genuine face to face market research going on or all these communications are scams to provide your phone, number and online habits etc. (In the 'qualifying' survey often there are questions like: how often do you spend using Optus products each day?) in the vain hope of being paid $50 for two hours.

      • Wow that was really detailed. Thanks! As for the surveys, i've done a few, mostly for itunes cards but the amount of time you put into it is never worth it. Though there is one that's provided by student edge, i'm a uni student, that gives you a $10 gift card to giftpax where you can freely spend it on whatever you want. For the past 2 times i've ordered 3 powerade drinks (from the $10 gift card), and the other time 2 vitawaters and 2 bottles of Daily Juice (from the other gift card). Though giftpax prices are a little high, it's still worth the 10 minutes or so that you spend on the survey.

My fav is Over Limit Fee
"$30 per statement period if the balance of your account exceeds your credit limit at any time during a statement period and you have provided your consent to incur a fee related to this service."

Hmmm sure I consent to being charged $30.

    • i'm not sure how it works but just don't go over the limit? I mean we're ozbargainers, we get the card, use it once, get the $100 and cancel

I was more amused that you need to provide your consent to be charged this fee!

  • Has anybody had any joy having the annual Fee waved after the first year?

I have not received the $100 card yet. it is more than 1.5 months since i did my first transaction with the card.

Well it did say that the gift card will be sent within 8 weeks of eligible purchase so you still [potentially] have half a month left to wait for…

    • Same here but at week 7, very likely I have to give them a call next week

  • Features don't seem as good as the Coles one. Not worth it for Tasmanians (come on Woolworths!).

  • $100 gift card is the equivalent of 15,100 points.
