I don't think i've ever seen a half yard beer glass at this price before.
It looks like a pretty cool looking glass and one that i suspect most people would not have already. Seems like a great gift from a uni student or 21st bday present, especially for this price.
For anyone who was wondering how long half a yard is, it is a bit over 45cm long. I imagine it will be quite an interesting experience drinking out of one of them~!
For these in Sydney, you can pick it up from the store directly. However, interstates people like me, a delivery charge applies. $11 to Melb.
The below is copy and pasted directly from the website:
Like beer?
We mean, do you really like beer?
Then forget pints and tankards – Libbey’s Half-Yard Ale Glass might be a little bit more up your alley.
But if you thought that the yard glass was only for silly college students and their parties, then think again. It’s most likely that the yard glass originated in 17th Century England, and was used for a number of reasons. Firstly, it was used to quench the thirst of stagecoach drivers; the elongated glass made it easier to pass it up high to the driver. It was also used when making special toasts and feasting, much in the way that champagne flutes can be specially designed and used for toasting.
Libbey’s Half-Yard Ale Glass is a little more on the tame side, and it looks far more sophisticated when paired with its wooden stand. Display your glass or serve up almost a litre of beer in style, and revel at the sight of your favourite beer or ale as it fills this impressive-looking vessel. Then, of course, raise a toast!
