Anyone knows if this route uses Boeing 787?

    • -2

      Why ?

      • +5

        I like to try it.

        • If you like Boeing 787, then try Jetstar

        • +4

          @tlam:
I've had a really bad experience with Jetstar. We've booked with Jetstar Boeing 787 flight to Honolulu earlier this year.
We checked in and went to the gate waiting area in Sydney Airport. Our outbound flight was cancelled at last minutes. We had to wait for hours in the gate waiting area, went thru custom and waited to collect our luggage. Total time wasted is half a day as we had to make our own way to return home. We forfeited our 1st hotel charge due to 'no-show' We had travel insurance, but it still costed us hundred of dollars out of pocket as there was an insurance excess plus some exclusions. Jetstar did not compensate anything at all.

        • @tlam: Oh god, Jetstar's 787 seating config is horrendously tight. I wouldn't wish that on anyone above 5'6".

        • @Joe888:

Oh really bad experience, I completely understand your feeling.

But I am in Queensland and always use Jetstar to flight directly to Tokyo from Gold Coast. I've never had any problem with Jetstar.

This September I'll go to Japan again buy I'll flight with Qantas from Brisbane airport. Qantas started operating the direct flight to Tokyo from Brisbane from this month (01/08).

      • so much easier than flying into Narita, if its all the same I might wait till the next jetstar sale they usually have flights late November for $450 return

        • -1

lol Even Airasia is changing to flying to Haneda now lol. The distance to Narita from Tokyo CBD is crazy like 1.5 hours on 'fast train'. I though Kuala Lumpur airport was far from it's CBD area.

        • Wondering I'f they will do it anymore, with Qantas now running daily flights and all.

        • +2

@lifethroughthelens: Not sure what you mean 1.5hrs. From Narita Airport to Ueno on the Keisei Skyliner it takes only 53mins. N'EX is about the same time. ~1750en. You can take the normal keisei lines but it usually takes 1hr 45mins or so.

          http://www.keisei.co.jp/keisei/tetudou/skyliner/us/

          http://www.jreast.co.jp/e/nex/

        • @Turd: Oh For me it was 1 and a half hours - but like including a second train to a station near shibuya. Still 53 minutes is still a long time.

        • @lifethroughthelens:

Oh man I got the bus from Narita to Shinjuku and man that 1.5 hour bus ride was weird as hell. Old Japanese men were watching porn on their mobile phone in the open and it was completely normal for everyone except me. I think I'll catch the train next time I go.

        • @Turd: Jetstar once Cancelled my flight while in tokyo due to a grounded aircraft and put me up a hotel in Narita. Sweet 2 extra day holiday for free except there is screw all to do there and the 1.5 hour each way was a major pain.

        • +1

@sonicentropy: You should have visited naritasan, it's a nice area about 10mins from Narita on the keisei narita line, lot's of templs etc and old area. -.-

        • @Turd: True, but if you're going through to Shinjuku… And for some reason I found the N'EX trip felt incredibly long - maybe it's the map of the train barely moving along it;)

        • @Isho: Thats so gross lol.

        • +1

          @lifethroughthelens:

Are we seriously complaining about the train from Narita after travelling from Australia? Compared to the access to every major Australian airport, the NEX was a f##king spaceship - a long trip on it was a privilege, especially when it's free on a JR pass.

        • It's only onlike 50~ minutes on the Narita Express, which is free if you're bringing a JR pass along as any sane traveller should, never understood the big deal.

        • @scynaz: Well even the Japanese complain about the distance. The train is nice, but if it wasn't for the distance then why is is that the closer Haneda airport is having airlines shift over there. First world problem, I know, but still.

I cant for the life of my figure out how much baggage is included.

  • its not working for me now…

    • Try switching your country to Japan. I was getting the same error as you when I had USA selected but it worked for me after selecting Japan.

      • i changed computers to get it working, tried one way and return and it just pops up with that message

        thanks guys

    No Melb :(

    • Just fly

    • fly to syd then fly to japan =)

    • +2

You can fly to Sydney and then fly with ANA to Japan. Let's be fair, there are no direct Jetstar flights from Sydney to Japan but there are direct Jetstar flights from Melbourne to Japan.

  • +2

    Is this a bargain?

    • Depends.
When Jetstar had 2 for 1 deals it was ~$500 return per person GC to Narita (including luggage).

Different airline, location, inclusions, travel period etc… but it's about double the price.

  • It seems expensive compared to Narita, is it worth paying double?

    • +4

      Expensive?

Find me a cheaper flight from SYD to Japan between 21st Dec 2015 -> 30th Dec 2015.
      ANA is ~$AUD1000

Jetstar+China Airline is $1400, and you know Jetstar is meh.

      http://www.skyscanner.com.au/transport/flights/syd/nrt/15122…

      • I guess I'm not with it for that time of the year. I guess the $450 return rates are for off season.

        • +2

The $450 flights with Jetstar was for melb. From Sydney its abit more expensive around $550 and after adding luggage and food comes closer to around $700.

Unlike Jetstar, this has no stopover in cairns so you save time and probably better service with the Japanese flight attendants. Normal prices for direct flights to japan usually cost around $1.3k during peak periods and around $1.1k during off peak. So I think its pretty good value.

        • @ko0l:

Yes, that makes sense. Thanks for clearing that up.

    • +1

      Double? Does not compute.

      • +1

Maybe it was just an error of judgement.

  • You guys will love the airline from Japan :)))

  • Love the service of Japanese Air Attendents. Will try next time!

    • +2

Yeah I just flew back on JAL last week from NRT, whilst the 787 is old and crappy (still using the small head screens) and the cable controled remote, service is great also.. I had MOS burger in the air too ;)

  • ANA serves ippudo ramen for business and first class :)
    https://www.ana.co.jp/eng/aboutana/press/2013/130520.html

And if you have been to japan you will know "milk tea". ANA serves milk tea on board.

  • +2

I hope they have the Pokemon themed jet on this route…

    • I want the starwars plane!!

      • I flew on the Pokémon plane in May between Tokyo and Okinawa

  • I tried available fare ex-SYD-Tokyo but the price was JPY. I expect AUS$ in price as departure city in Australia… strange. Lots of seat availability with 787 - that will be very good aircraft by ANA and you can get 50% of mile on star alliance careers (like UA etc) - not too bad for its price and service.

    • Yes it's in JPY. However thinking of the next best prices during the xmas holiday period it's like $1400.

with cc fees etc it's worth it.

Also it is VERY VERY NEW, the flight details were only uploaded to ANA's database around 11am this mornig, there has been zero press release aside from ANA's facebook comment.

I guess they will have similar AUD prices and or other things in the coming days/weeks. But yeah

  • Their name on website looks like ANA/, they should consider removing the /

  • -2

Yes. Jetstar now has a Japan sale ending Monday. About $600 return plus baggage and other extras.

    • +1

Valid during xmas and nye holidays?? I think NOT

    • Suppose Jetstar has an appeal to some - but compared with ANA (and JAL), they are in a different league.

  • Rats, I thought they were starting flying from October. Seems like QANTAS is flying to Haneda now as well, with very old shitty refurbed 747's, the ones with the old TV and wand style "media centres" *cough cough". I was talking with the attendant on my flight back from JPN in May and she said they were going to mothball a whole bunch of old planes but had decided to put them on the SYD>Haneda route … greeeeaaaaattt.

  • guys is the year end period good for skiing?

    • Nope, try February…

  • Good to finally see some competition for AU-JP flights, which has been dominated by Qantas group/Oneworld for so long. Hopefully long term we'll see cheaper fares overall, as on a per mile basis Tokyo with QF/JP has always been expensive (compared to say, LA).

  • +1

Thanks so much for this! My friend and I have been eyeing flights during this period for a while and we were just about to cave for higher prices but then you came and saved the day! Japan trip booked!

    • Same here, except we are a family of 4… So this is a lot cheaper :)

  • Anyone know the approx travel time form HND to downtown TYO … Anywhere convenient that the train stops will do. Cheers

    • About 34-47 mins from Haneda to Ueno station, depending which route and when you take it.

  • This is nuts, this is totally beautiful. Thank you. Especially when you have a job with annual leave, each extra day spent travelling means you're effectively losing a day's pay. Flights like this where you can include multiple public holidays over the NY period are really rare.

It's not just about fares when you compare to budget airlines. My last Jetstar flight to Japan was delayed for two days - that's two lost days in the holiday that covered more than whatever I had saved by flying Jetstar. Especially from Sydney, since direct flights only leave from Brisbane or Melbourne with Jetstar.

Re: the complaints about cramped 787 seats, while ANA use the same 9 across as everyone now does unfortunately, the economy seats have a 34" pitch. So legroom is more than decent.

And I still can't believe there's a 46KG baggage allowance. Other countries, it would be a waste. But all the stuff you can bring back from Japan…

I read all the whiny comments and tried to come up with something to complain about. But I can't. This is an epic deal.

  • Does ANA share their mileage points with their code share airlines?

  • I live on the gold coast i went to mos burger for lunch then daiso and last night i had japanese bbq at jfx. I am now happy to wait for the next jetstar sale to osaka

  • Thanks OP.

Just to note, this also covers Sydney-Osaka via Haneda (Tokyo) at the same price of $960

  • anyone find any cheap flights from syd during that period - i can't find any unless sold out already?

  • +1

Gee, I just noiced that their 787 aicraft comes with bidet (ie. Washlet)- is it the first service in the world???? I am tempted….
