rich ppl would actually prefer to spend more as long as they feel good
I reckon pray the poor is way lower ie the Radio Rental or similar

      • +1

Yes, it's easy to make money by taking advantage of the less sophisticated players in the market. Why don't we teach kids about basic money stuff in schools?

        • Because then who would buy cheap stuff??? XP

        • @Sam Tea:

You mean who would buy the over-priced stuff? ;)

      • Radio Rental is bad news like payday loan provides scum of the earth.

      pray on the rich

    • -1

Aww… because they've got it sooooooo tough!

    • prey…

    • Sorry - I don't understand… can you please explain?

    • +1

That's how you get rich in Australia. By milking the rich middle class people of all their disposable income. No marketets target "welfare recipients", for instance, because so they so little to spend.

And middle class people are all to happy to throw away their cash in order to prove they are superior to the underclass through being able to spend more and indulge in luxuries like frequenting coffee shops 3/day.

  • ill take a look intsore today at the Pitt St mall store in Sydney but all mensnwear appears to be discounted plus an extra 30% off the reduced price.

  • +3

Has anyone actually seen a list of the 100 brands? I read the Fairfax coverage of the story this morning, but this didn't give any examples of which brands will be pushed aside and I'm curious as to what has actually been given the chop

IF EVERYTHING ISN'T A BARGAIN THEN NOTHING IS A BARGAIN

    • Agree. Their normal markup is so ridiculously high. And on any typical day they have 40% off everything, and still manage to be more expensive than everyone else. Haven't bought anything from Myer in ages.

      • +4

Trying to find a bargain at Myer is almost as hard as finding an assistant to help you!

      • +2

Dunno. I don't agree. I think Myer used to be this way and has a bad rep. Used to work near a Myer and DJs in the city, and check out womens clothes (I'm a woman) and electronics and stuff all the time, and occasionally they were by far the best price. Mostly they follow the RRP, eg. I like Diana Ferrari shoes and Myer was consistently cheaper than the DF store when on sale, or the same price as RRP. It's not Myer's fault that Diana Ferrari is overpriced in general. Same goes for Superdry, Bonds, etc. (Eg. Bonds Hipster Bikini is 13.95 at BigW, Bonds site, same as Myer).

The only things I found that were consistently overpriced compared to online is toiletries (makeup, fragrances) jewelry, watches, sunglasses, and some electrical goods, like computers never seem to be a good price. But small electrical (toothbrushes, shavers etc), were quite competitive when on sale, esp compared to Harvey Norman and Dicks and such. Bought my last 2-3 straighteners at Myer. Also I think we got our Nespresso there about 5-6 years ago, and it was far and away the best price back then.

Their house brands are overpriced, but, they often seem to have sales on them, and some of the brands (like some of their kidswear) aren't too bad. It's very hit and miss though.

Dunno, I get what you're saying, but no one place consistently has the best prices. Even places like HN and DS you gotta wait for a sale. DJs on the other hand was always 20% more, to the point where I stopped even going in. They rarely do the extra off reduced.

        • In WA, the cheapest place to shop is "Eastern States" and get it delivered. Seriously. And I agree about DJ… I never go there.

  • Massive Myer Spring Clean

What is the bargain here, a Spring Clean ???

    I can't see any bargains listed…

        • 2012 went i went for the job.

        • +1

          @nikey2k27:
Gee. I'm sure, back then, minimum pay rates must have been higher than that. $19.30 was the rate at this time last year. I wouldn't have taken the job, either.

It's sad they are still making a tidy profit at these heavily discounted prices. Imagine some people paying full rrp for these, ouch.

I spent about an hour shopping on the Myer website only to have an error occur (multiple errors) - couldn't add anything else to my cart and couldn't check out.
It is the worst online store - I always have problems with it and usually end up purchasing somewhere else.

    • +1

yeah their website is dead now.

    • +2

Showing "planned maintenance" atm…yeah sure it was planned during a peak time.

    http://www.myer.com.au/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/SearchDispl…

  • Thanks OP. Bought some decent looking Sheridan and RM Williams towels for more than 50% off retail (and cheaper than I could find elsewhere). Also a Zyliss ice cream scoop for $13 (free postage when bought with the towels).

Edit: that includes the discount already

  • picked up a Beatles shirt $28 Ben Sherman not a great deal but they are not easy to find…

  • I made two orders last week and haven't heard anything. Hope they don't run out of stock before they get around to fulfilling my order!

    • +1

Just got a cancelled email from them for an order on 30th. Their system is just as bad as the Good Guys and other retailers that just don't know how to setup an online shopping system. Another words they send the order to a store that shows "in stock" and just let them fulfil the order. Ofcourse this means you are relying on people there to take their time to pick it up and send it. But if people at the store are slow or just lazy it gets sold out by the time they decide to find the item and they send the order back to the online system which then pass it onto the next store "in stock". This is why you get multiple "backordered" status when you check your online order. Basically everytime they get rejected by a store supposedly with stock you get a "backordered". Ofcourse after a few days, no stock (because of all that pass the buck) and you get cancelled. Its a useless system that Myer and other retailers implemented because they don't have a proper system or a warehouse dedicated to online orders and don't want to seem backwards with no online ordering system. A joke really, I'm certainly not going to order online anymore, better luck just calling a store showing stock and tell them to hold for you to pick up. What's worse is their Indian call centre doesn't like to pick up the phone when you try to call and ask what's going on. But good luck to your order, maybe you'll get lucky.

      • Hahahah yes this is exactly how I feel. My order was fulfilled eventually so I got lucky, but it was probably very close to ending up being cancelled. Totally agree on the call centre, i tried calling multiple times and nobody picked up. Order has been delivered today but i won't get it until friday, lets hope they've sent me the right thing!
