  • From the Gamers Outlet website:

    "Key Type: Steam CD Key"

Does this mean I need to use Steam to download the software? Or do I just get sent a key via email once I purchase?

    • Also from the Gamers Outlet website:

      MINIMAL REQUIREMENTS
Processor Intel Core 2 Duo E8200 2.66 GHZ or AMD Phenom X3 8750 2.4 GHZ
Graphics NVIDIA GeForce GTS 450 or ATI Radeon HD 5870
      Memory 6 GB RAM

6GB of RAM? Surely this is incorrect?

      • Sorry for misguiding.
We usually use an existing product to create new products faster. Seems like we forgot to remove the Steam from the page :)

If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.

I'm guessing they have got the keys of reddit microsoftsoftwareswap and then re-sold as 'legit' or got it from some other less-than-legitimate means.

I'm sure the keys will work fine without issue as Microsoft rarely ever revoke product keys and don't really track them that well in the first place (which is what is often referred to as being "legit" these days - as long as it passes product activation).

But what I'm saying is aside from the ethical considerations of where you source your license keys from, that I would be ultra-careful about using this deal in a business setting as Microsoft may be able to audit your business if the business has ever signed a volume license agreement with Microsoft before or they have a reasonable suspicion of it (i.e. Disgruntled employee tip-off) as it could land you on hot water.

Australia is a lot better the USA at least where they can't "fine" you or seek any kind of punitive damages, but if you get audited, they aren't exactly going to go easy on you and will try to claim every cent of their costs and assume the most expensive way of licensing things is the right way.

Guys, does windows 10 force you to use that horrible tile screen at the start? I heard they took out that start bar in windows 8 so I didn't bother upgrading from 7.

    • +1

It does not. You run a normal start menu, with a mini "fly-out" Tiles type menu. Its not full screen and moving from Win 7 to 10 Insider, I am happy with it so far.

    • +1

Sooner or later there will be programs that removes it and bring back the good old Start. just like in 8.

    • You can stop it coming up at the start in windows 8 by going to your start menu options.

  • So if purchasing this key and then getting a copy of windows10 clean install would the key work to activate it?

Just a heads up to people like me who are committed to the BDS movement (Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions) against Israel, that this is an Israeli company and that your money may end up as income tax to prop up the Israeli occupation of the West Bank. I'm certainly not looking for a political debate (read: shitfight) here, but I think everybody has a right to know where their money ends up.

    • -1

      So, you're a racist?

      • Israel is a country dude. The boycott is in response to actions of the government of that country. This has nothing to do with race.

If someone boycotted North Korea, that would not make them racist against Asians.

        • +1

Yes you are correct, it is about religion instead.

        • -1

          @SamR:

No, it's not. It's about the actions of a country/government. If I boycotted Iran, I'm not boycotting Islam. I might still buy products from Indonesia which has a far larger Muslim population.

    • Seriously, forget about Israeli's.. If you really cared you would know BDS hurts Palestinians more than any israeli whom rely on a strong Israeli economy to provide jobs as well as millions of dollars in welfare to thousands of Arabs living in and around territories to feed their own families whilst the Palestinian Authority sucks money away from their own people.

  • Thanks Op.

Any good deals on MS Office 2013?

  • +1

Microsoft are selling it for $260. You'd have to be an OEM or enterprise licensing to get it at that price?

    • +1

Supposedly, retail. There is just no way.

    • +2

He'll probably do a dodgy and obtain a few keys from the HUP (Home User Program). $15 full office 2k13 pro plus. They are legit keys sold by Microsoft (not to be resold). https://www.microsofthup.com (Catch IS - if you have a work/study place email participating with this program).

Seriously guys.. this posting is full of "red flags".

Then again I dare say people falling into buying this is trying to make amends for the single license they've installed on 10 machines from a borrowed legit copy? or from other "not so legal" means.

  • The student price of Windows 8.1 pro is $69. A bit more than this, but guaranteed legit, and way cheaper than retail, if you can get it yourself or through friends / family.

  • +5

There's a strange aroma coming from this deal.

  • +2

    use discount code "werock"

Why do people pay for Windows?
Is it that they feel Microsoft are in need of the money? Or is it simply that they're ignorant of how easy it is to obtain for free?

I understand if organisations want to buy it, since they'll be using it to make money, but I'm talking about home use.

    • I don't really understand what you are saying? Are you saying we should all contribute to a lawless society, or are you saying Microsoft have provided legal ways to obtain Windows for free?

    • Ethics?

    • +1

      Less hassle and worry.

To obtain an illegal copy you'd have to wait for someone to crack it, and hope Microsoft doesn't find a way to defeat that cracking. It could then lead to an arms race between crackers and MS.

If you can get it legit but cheap, it would be the best option.

    • it goes on to saying… Why do people pay you for the work you do?

In saying that, doesn't mean I was extremely happy paying for it. But to learn I am happy knowing it still continues to serve me well for both work & play it has paid me back tenfolds.

Perhaps where you are at in your situation do dictate your position of view (to be fair we've been in that shoe before).

But hey look beyond. Microsoft is an economy in itself! Even crooks get a chunk of bite from their big $$$ P I E $$$ (I dare say even you continue to free load from them nibbling at their pie.).

So long I see some of their billions also going on to at least: charitable causes, finding cures for diseases, empowering less fortunate kids, etc (don't remind me some of those causes are taxable deductible :)), I'm happy knowing my micro$ i spent somehow ended up in those causes! (don't pop the bubble now people! Its better to remain in that positive thought.)

I want to know if these reviews were from people who bought steam game keys or Windows keys. No one cares if a Steam key is dodgy or not. As long as it activates, it's yours and Valve won't take it away from you. For Windows however, MS has ways of later discovering your key is fake or MSDN.

    • +2

For mac OS X you dont even need a key. They rely on overpriced hardware to make their money

    • He probably paid these reviewers, like a lot of other 'reviews' in the internet. Caveat emptor!

    • Not true, keys purchased with stolen cc's can be revoked at any time and region restriction can be applied to keys bought from outside your region. Has only happened to me a couple times but just because it activates doesn't mean they won't take it away.

  • is it cheaper to get a windows 7 license if your only after the Win 10 upgrade anyway?

    • +1

      Get whatever is cheapest.

  • -3

    To OP: This is BS!

I wanted to get this as a spare as I already have my free upgraded w8.1 but it wont let me checkout. Safari says 'page not available'

Reminds me of the BS dick was playing when I tried to buy $8 telstra sim cards. Not valid credit card my arse! Hence since then no more buying from dick (nor from you whoever you are you shifty person).

Oh well. Your (and dick's) loss!

  • +4

I jumped the gun and bought a key. It gets delivered to you in a text file. I haven't tried it out yet, but probably smarter to pay $30 more and get the student version from Microsoft where you know it is an authentic copy.

  • +2

Fake fake fake fake. You want real get it from Microsoft direct online or retail/PC stores. This is fake. Win 8.1 has never had that cover ever either. Windows has never been cheap. Ever. OEM 8.1 which can be reinstalled at will (unlike Win 7 OEM) is $125 from MSY.

    • +1

Windows 8 serial keys were as little as $15-$20 directly from Microsoft about 3 years ago.

      • +2

What kind of keys were they?

      • Officeworks had Windows 8 Pro full install disk + key for ~$40 at launch, and around the same price from Microsoft store online.

This deal is dodgy though. Probably reselling /r/microsoftsoftwareswap keys which are not legit.

  • +3

I'd hope any businesses that have Win server licenses didn't jump on this if it turns out to be illegitimate as Microsoft have been doing a large amount of audits on businesses lately.

    • +1

Agreed, if you're a business pleading ignorance is no defense and MS will charge you full retail on all keys you have or bring you to court, I've seen it, the Company couldn't afford the licenses or court fees and filed for bankruptcy. They had a shed load of illegal licenses for everything.

      • +2

Fortunately they'll warn you before they take action and tell you what you need to purchase. I know of a business that got fined ~200k for pirated MS licenses and ~100k for pirated Autocad. Business did the same and had to file for bankruptcy.

  • +4

How long do you stand by your keys?
If my windows becomes de-activated by Microsoft now or if I upgrade to Windows 10.

Will you give a full refund if these keys become useless in a month or a year?

    • +5

No reply as I imagined lol

  • +1

Phew! Looks like I dodged a bullet.

Also, as per above comments I also bought 2 win8 licences $15 each about 3 yrs ago. So $30 for 2. Can be reinstalled at will on same machine. But if you change hardware you have to ring ms to validate.

Admin - do you think this is grounds to ban this user for selling fake licences? Yesterday you mentioned spammers, this is worse than spamking. Fraud? We will see if he shows up again.

    • Admin - do you think this is grounds to ban this user for selling fake licences? Yesterday you mentioned spammers, this is worse than spamking. Fraud? We will see if he shows up again.

It's a middleman from Microsoftswap. Won't be fake licenses, they will check out on VAMT as retail, but definitely not obtained through an authorised distributor that sells physical copies. Not exactly fraud, but not exactly an authorised reseller either.

      • +2

I don't have a direct reference, but this practice is definitely against microsoft T+C's, even if its not 'illegal' as such.

However, the seller saying the keys are retail if they are not - that's actual fraud :)

However, the seller saying the keys are retail if they are not - that's actual fraud :)

Yeah definitely against T&Cs. They are "Retail" keys as per Microsoft VAMT (Volume Activation Management Tool) classification, so I guess it depends on the definition of Retail they are using before you can paint them with "Misleading" and "Fraud".
          IANAL

        • +1

          @cwongtech:

good points. these volume licenses are murky water. i wasn't painting the shop with anything anyway, unless they are directly lying or misleading. anyway expired now so no biggie.

          IAANAL

    • +1

      Whats your proof?

Substantial hardware changes (Mainly Motherboard) pretty much required you to ring MS as the OS no longer detects it as the same PC. Is that your proof?

  • Out of stock for good this time?

    • I hope so

    • Hopefully new stock should arrive tomorrow.

  • Called microsoft for windows 8.1 pro student just then. The student verification is currently down. OP i PMed you!

  • Back in stock for a limited stock ;)

For those of you who doesn't believe its retail, please see this guide: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/wiki/windows8_1-w…
In order to use our cdkey you have to go over the installation there. as it says "You need a Retail Windows 8.1 key (OEM Keys will not work) and a working computer to be able to download and burn the disc."

  • +1

Not convinced about this deal, when new OSs come out MS in the past i think have tried to try up stock on old version to prevent re-sellers from selling older versions. I'm also assuming Windows 10 Pro still has downgrade rights, which i assume is still one of the ways you are meant to license a computer with you want an older version of the OS.

I personally would never trust a digital key for microsoft products unless i was buying it actually from microsoft.

    • Pro-Tip: Flip over an old laptop with a windows 7 sticker on it - that key is UNUSED. The one installed on that laptop is a manufacturer specific SLP key + BIOS certificate to allow activation of any :)
Step 1: On old laptop with windows 7 home premium pre-installed/factory image, run Windows Anytime Upgrade, Find a windows 7 pro/ultimate SLP key here, these WILL NOT WORK unless you have a BIOS certificate, which comes in a factory pre-built laptop/desktop
Step 2: Upgrade to Windows 10 Pro for free :)
Step 3: Use that key on the sticker on the bottom of your laptop to install Windows 7 Home Premium on a different computer + Upgrade to Windows 10 (no pro) for free :D
      Step 4: ???
      Step 5: Profit!

      • I don't think that works. I tried the sticker on my Dell on Microsoft's website, to download Windows media, and it said the key was OEM and I should contact the OEM manufacturer.

        • Aww.. Well if it doesn't - the SLP key to upgrade from Windows Anytime Upgrade will work - i.e. if you have any windows 7 preinstalled editions that are supposed to only go to Windows 10, you can get Windows 10 Pro by this method

    • Microsoft are really not going to send a reseller a sheet of 200-1000 odd (or whatever) license keys and say to the reseller here you are, GO NUTS and please sell them. Or is he managing an email folder with loads of different individual emails, in which case he should be able to forward the key on. If they are individual emails, hes probably not going to have a bulk pricing for purchasing them.

Its not like the seller should be worried about letting people know who the distributor is. Distributors dealing in such large bulk are not going to give you the same rate he has. They are probably not even going to deal with the general public and you would probably need a trade account of some kind.

I assume when he sends you the key and its not forwarded from someone else who you can then verify the authenticity.

Also how do you know the dude doesnt send YOUR key twice if hes got a list and is manually maintaining it.

Someone who has bought one of the keys should probably call the general microsoft australia number and ask to speak to the licensing team and see if they can verify the key. The licensing help lines are quite helpful.

  • Did anyone try this and successfully get the Win 10 upgrade?

If so, were you able to clean install Windows 10 with the 8 key without installing 8?

  • Can Win 7 Ultimate N upgrade to Windows 10 Pro (not N) or are you stuck with W10 Pro N?

Likewise, will a Pro key work on Pro N?

  • "Windows 8.1 isn't available for download
Sorry, Windows 8.1 isn't avaialable for online purchase in the country/region you're in."

Got this message when I use the upgrade software "OSGS14-WindowsSetupBox-32bitand64bit-English-4141408" from the website:
    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-8/upgrade-product…

    Anyone got the same issue?

    • Hey, We have an 24/7 support team in [email protected] so you can contact us with any issue you're facing.
Anyway, you better use it on an ISO, choose the relevant one:

      Windows 8.1 x64

      Windows 8.1 x86
      http://mirror65.blob.core.windows.net/iso/en_windows_8_1_n_x…

    • Im getting this too? wtf? did you get yours to work?

      • Hi Shadowrukia,
Please download the link i posted above and install the windows by booting from CD after burning the ISO.

        • DID NOT WORK. talking to someone on facebook but they haven't helped so far… spent all day working on this

        • +1

@shadowrukia: nice we got it to work.

      • +1

I finally got mine to work. Downloaded the ISO image file using link provided and used an app to copy it over to a USB bootable.

During installation it asks for the key. I entered the key manually. Works.

Upgraded to windows 10 pro n.

        • Have fun! <3

  • ARE THESE legit KEYS AND NOT FAKE??
