    is it SATA II compatible?

    • +1

yes, sata is always backward compatible with previous versions

    • +2

According to Wikipedia, all SATA II are compatible with all SATA III, and vice versa.
      https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Serial_ATA
SATA 3 Gbit/s and SATA 6 Gbit/s are compatible with each other. Most devices which are only SATA 3 Gbit/s can connect with devices that are SATA 6 Gbit/s, and vice versa, though SATA 3 Gbit/s devices only connect with SATA 6 Gbit/s devices at the slower 3 Gbit/s speed.

…While making little to no real-world difference.
        An article of interest

        • If your real-world is opening and closing applications. However, you can also simply leave the computer on and ready to go, negating the benefits of SSD over HDD.

        • +1

@twocsies: 100's of benefits. I became an addict, even paying $200+ for 60GB.

  • sigh… not quite ready for a new build ….. what to do

Don't panic. Have you seen how much prices have dropped, across the board, lately?

Cheap & fast options for all.

  • Good price. Says that a newer version will be in stock on 31 July - PNY 240 GB CS1211.

    I would consider http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00T5EEI8W/ref=psdc_1292116011_t1_B…
This has better specs for extra 12 USD.

    Cheers

  • I just want a bargain 500 gb

  • Make sure you pay in USD with a 28 Degree's Card or Citbank Plus Visa Debt Card to get the $104 Price.

Doesn't have to be just those 2 cards.

    • Apart from those two cards and the Bankwest Zero Platinum, there would be very few cards that would get you close to $AUD104. Nearly all charge a foreign transaction fee for a start. His recommendation is a good one (although he should include the Bankwest).

  • Why Amazon says OLD MODEL?

This is rather slow compared to other SSDs.

    • This is rather cheap compared to other SSDs.

      • 430MB/s write from $113 - http://www.staticice.com.au/cgi-bin/search.cgi?q=240G+SSD&sp…
8.6% more price for 43% more write performance.

        470MB/s write from $127 (and 16GB extra storage) - http://www.staticice.com.au/cgi-bin/search.cgi?q=256G+SSD&sp…
22% more price (14% if scaling the storage amount) for 56% more write performance.

If you aren't seeking an SSD for performance, then what - reliability?

I also didn't say it wasn't cheaper than other SSDs. It likely has a market segment target at this price point.

        • Hopefully you don't buy a car just based on top speed.

There are many that buy SSD to spice-up a SATAII limited machine. Cheapest SSD is often the best.

        • +1

@Utopian: And there is the market segment. Good suggestion for those still on sata2.

        • @Utopian: If a car was 43% more effective at its task, I would absolutely pay 8.6% more for it.

        • +1

@Lukian: We can go on forever… but thankfully all the reviews show that top speed & synthentic benchmarks tell the story… SSD is the important factor. Once it's installed, everything-else is a bottleneck.
