  • Our local dvd rental place recently downsized it shop, its now much smaller. A dying business model. I feel sorry for him as he is just trying to make an honest living from a business that has no future.

    • True,
      who rents DVDs anymore?

      A lot of local stores are a dying breed now.

      It's all about streaming and downloads nowadays.

      ===

      Still have fond memories of renting dvds in the old days.

      And getting those specials deals like
      10 movies for $10 or something like that.

      Also used to rent games as well.

      But it was a hassle to drive back to the store to return them.
      especially if u got new releases due the next day, but other movies still got one week due.

      ===

      Do people still use internet cafes?
      They were a hit a while back.

      Nowadays, not even sure if they are still around or still popular

      • I still remember going down to video shop to rent few vhs cassettes with movies. That's way before dvds came to play, calling it the old days ;)

        • I remember renting Super Nintendo games.

    It's very unfortunate that big names like Netflix and ITunes have taken over these small businesses. More unfortunate is the amount of tax paid by Netflix and Apple!

      Who gives a shit how much tax they pay.

      That's something for the government to work out.

      They are giving us easy access to entertainment.
      You should be glad that they exists.

      • +1

        Dude your comment is very poor form.

        • -2

          It's true though..

          Whether we are concerned if they pay how much tax is not going to change anything.

          The government is only one that can do something about this.
          If it concerns them, then they will do something about this.

          At the end of the day, it's not gonna make a difference to my life

        • @tyler.durden:

          It actually will, more tax will do so much good to our old infrastructure.

          @RockMeLoOn:

          haha, keep on believing that lie..

          That's what they say about other new taxes
          It will go this or that etc..

          At the end of the day they (politicians) will just use it to
          -increase their pay packet.
          -Spend it frivolously on ads and money sweeteners so that can win the next election.
          -waste it on dumb schemes and red tape

          ==
          If they were interested in spending it on important things
          they would have kept things that like
          -gonski
          -nbn

          now it scraped or is really watered down version like nbn.

          Pollies are only interested in getting into power, so they promised you lots of things.
          then when they are in, they reveal their true agendas.

  • any idea on the expiry date?

    I still rent from these terminals. It can work out quite cheap with these vouchers and $2 Tuesdays. The normal price is also only $3pn at one of the terminals I visit. For me, these terminals are convenient but it would soon eat into your savings if you had to go out of your way.

    Online rentals from Google/iTunes are $6 (SD) and $7 (HD). If these prices were lower, I'd dump Video Ezy / Hoyts in a flash.

  • This turned out to be $4 credit rather than 1 free rental. The machine we used had $2 rentals so we ended up being able to get 2 movies with the code.

  • Does anyone know of a kiosk offering $2 rentals anywhere near Glen Waverley (Melbourne SE)? :)
