will it ruin your pcs performance?

    http://www.gizmodo.com.au/2015/07/is-your-antivirus-software…

seems to hold up quite well

  • +1

Rep, would it be possible to do a deal on a 1 PC 1 year (or 1 PC 2 years) please?

    • Maybe share with other 2 people?

  • Beware.. This software kills the wifi of some laptops. Had to uninstall to fix the problem.

  • So many other options out there for free anti-virus, why would you pay?
    Avast, AVG etc.

    • Windows already comes pre installed with Defender anyway…

      • Add Malwarebytes (free) and a free firewall and your pretty well covered.

      • yep, I can't understand why anyone would go with anything other than Defender, for normal everyday general use, anyway.

        • +6

Because it slows your computer more than Avast, Avira, Kaspersky, Bitdefender, etc, and offers less protection than all of those too.

        • +2

I'll tell you why: it's woefully ineffective against new threats and has been for a long time. As is MSSE (MS free AV to use on top of Windows Defender) for that matter.

It's literally the most important defense for a malicious software creator to bypass and so it usually is.

          That's why.

      • +3

Defender is only ~80% effective against large tests of in-the-wild samples.

        • -2

          Defender is only ~80% effective

It's been 100% effective for me since MSE was launched…

Unless of course you don't research apps before installing, or like clicking on links in your emails..

        • +5

@jv: Your brain is 100% effective, running Defender plays no (or little) part in your result. :)

        • @jv:

Running no antivirus was 100% effective for me for many years too. I don't think that's evidence that having no antivirus will protect you against viruses though…

Besides Windows Defender slows your computer more than most. I'd pay $12 for a faster computer with better protection.

        • @jv: But them russian bride ads looks so tempting… I mean… I don't click on those -walks away slowly whilst whistling-

Btw, I've seen a couple of those ads on Ozbargain before I sign-in to get rid of ads. No one else has used this and its my work PC so I don't even know what the hell is going on >_>

        • +3

@dazweeja: People seem to have this bizaare notion that malware will let them know in some manner that it has infected their PC.

That was the case 15 years ago when people were infecting you for a joke or fame.

Almost all malicious software these days is aimed at making money by stealing from you (logins, money, network, processing power etc.) or, if your "lucky" some nubcakes from hackforums will spy on you.

To let you know, LOL, would make your PC worthless to an attacker so the default for malicious software is to stay as hidden as possible.

And yet here we are it's 2015 and people are still claiming their PC is clean because they didn't notice anything wrong.

        • @Diji1: Agreed, things like drive by malware, spear fishing attacks, and legitimate service providers being compromised and letting your personal information be stolen makes quality AV a must have. You want to go without, that's fine, but don't try and turn others.

    • +1

I would not recommend AVAST. Two days back i downloaded codec for my windows media player and it came with conduit malware. AVAST could not found it and all my browsers were full of shitty ads. So uninstalled it and re-enable windows defender.

      • +1

Did you then try to reinstall the codec to see if Defender offered better protection?

        • I did not.

        • @cniminc:

          I don't blame you ;)

… but it does leave open the possibility that Defender would have let in this same malware and many others besides.

      • Wow that trick is still working? You should never, ever install a codec through WMP, full stop.

As far as I'm aware Conduit isn't technically malicious software as it asks for your agreement if it's installed the "correct" way but it's certainly a PUP and they're one of those Adware pumpers that allows people to install the program without asking you and they only give a toss if the affiliate that's doing it starts leading to a lot of complaints.

        • You are right. Conduit is not technically malicious s/w hence probably its not found by AV.

    while stock last

    Really?

    • Do keys grow on trees? (Even if they did, the stock of keys grown from trees is still 'limited'.)

    • Really?

Yes, there are only 18,446,744,073,709,551,616 combinations available…

      • +3

Sorry just to clarify, while stock last means our pre-allocated stock for the special price :)

  • Purchased 2 copies, received in minutes. Thanks for posting :)

    • received in minutes.

I assume it's not Aussie Post then?

      • +5

        Email only.

Australia post and minutes don't belong in the same sentence.

        • @ JLaw.. well said mate !!

Kasper the company actively work on keeping the webs safe. They are often credited with finding new malware, viruses etc.

Personally, I am willing to pay $12 to keep three of our family's PC's safe.

OP - Can this code be stacked on top of an existing subscription?

    • +1

I was thinking the same thing, Ive purchased two copies. Active one now and the second when the first expires.

    • I would like to know this as well.

  • I like this software but had a problem some time after I uninstalled it.

I couldn't connect an android phone via usb. Turns out Kaspersky left behind some blocking in the registry for mtp-usb drivers. You have to manually remove these entries.

  • Received the key in 4 mins via email from the time of purchase.

    Thanks!

  • Bitdefender and free Malwarebytes

  • Just realised I need to get an anti-virus and seen this. Only have 1 PC but also a Mac. dont mind paying $22 for the multidevice (3 devices) 1yr. However whats the difference between 'total security' and 'internet security'. I thought 'total' would be better. But it appears after a google search that internet security is nearly always more expensive?? OP?

    HI Rep,
Can we use it to "extend" another year on current 2015 edition of the software (mime is not due til 2017)

  • +3

    Another question Rep :)

Can I buy but not activate it for a couple of months ?
I've got another product with a few months still on it.

  • Great deal.

Tried a few paid and free version of antivirus programs.

Always come back to Kaspersky, lightweight, effective and non obtrusive.

  • +3

Do these codes expire? I had bought a new licence not too long ago, so if they don't, I could buy this to use after my existing one finishes.

  • For those who have been wondering, like I have, if these are stackable. Below is a snippet from SaveOnIt.

There is no expiry date but the keys are licensed for 2015 version software only. So really I would say it's valid for next 3~4 months as they generally release new version around Oct. Unfortunately we can't confirm if it will be compatible with the new version as it's not yet available

    EDIT - other part.
    Me - Are these stakeable?
I don't believe so sorry. I had quick look on google and it doesn't seem so.

      From Kapsersky Support Pages (http://support.kaspersky.com/11208)

      2. What is a new (reserve) activation code
In Kaspersky Internet Security 2015, you can add a new activation code besides an active license. When a few days remain until your license expires, you can renew a license for Kaspersky Internet Security 2015 and add a new activation code to the application as a reserved activation code. Once your license expires, a new activation code will be automatically activated with no disruption of your security.

      5. Activation code validity period
An unused activation code can be activated at any time, but the license will begin to expire on the day of initial activation. The license validity period is calculated since the first activation (once an activation code is activated on any of the computers it was purchased for). This information does not refer to trial activation codes which go on CDs in magazines. The validity period of trial activation codes is restricted.

    • So is it an auto-renewal license or a standard license?

Normally if you buy a license are you able to upgrade to the next version?

  • Has anyone got problems with payment went through but no order number on payment confirmation page? I just got my credit card deducted already but with no order details at all in my account order !!!!
