    What's the normal price?

    • +8

      $2.95 at my local store.

    • +13

      Let JV ask that question!

      • +2

        He's not here.

        • *She probably knows the normal price as it's something that's advertised in every store; plus, you know, it's safe to assume that the normal price is at least double this price ;)

        • @gokhanh:
Yep in hindsight..it was a stupid question.

        • I see that you're taking the negs for him.

        • +5

          @ronnknee:
          I deserve it…

  • +31

    KFC chips are rarely good.
Most of the time, they have been left out so long that they're soggy.

When fresh batch is just made, however, they're very good though.

    • +3

instead of taking the chance of whether they were fresh or not, why not go to your local charcoal chicken/fish and chip shop and ask for chips "well done" with chicken salt?

I think they'll cost about the same anyway

      • +1

My local kebab store sells a regular chips for like $3-5 but are always nice

        • is their regular size the same size as kfc? My local chicken/fish and chip shop "regular" ~$3 size is like usually twice the amount or more than KFC's "regular". I'd rather pay a little more not to put badly cooked rubbish chips in my mouth

      • +8

small shops never sell chips for $1 always $3

        • But yo get at least 3 time as much as this regular one.

        • +1

@gokhanh: Sure, if you get a large or family-size serve

        • +2

@klpo: Not sure what your local fish and chip/charcoal chicken serve but the minimum chips for mine definitely is way bigger than kfc regular chips

        • +2

@nairdajun: Feel like some hot chips now.

        • +7

I love my local fish n chip shops' board:

          Large Chips: $5
          Small Chips : $2.50
          Minimum Chips: $3

How can minimum be more than the small?

          /headexplodes

        • @AlisonP:

I've seen similar signs in other fish and chips shops as well and I think it's a silly idea. It usually happens in stores that do chips in buckets as well as bulk chips which are then wrapped up. The minimum chips would have a lot more chips than the small chips. I don't know about the large chips. The size would vary from shop to shop.

        • @AlisonP: I believe they don't want a change of 50 cent, so forcing customers to spend up to the nearest full dollar value.

        • @AlisonP:

Lol I assume a small chips is in a small bucket?

        • @AlisonP: Cant you appreciate the value? If minimum chips is the smallest size, then the "small" size must represent greater value. haha

        • @AlisonP:

Its so you can buy two or three small chips in seperate containers if you do not wish to share $5 chips. By buying more than one small chips you step over the $3 minimum threshold.
This is contrary to all teachings of OZB so dont worry if it doesnt make sense.

    • Ask for chips with less salt or just different in some way, they'll have to make a new batch to lessen the salt on your chips :)

    • +8

I did the KFC tour this last sat … and chips were awesome because they were freshly made fist thing in the morning.
Maybe thats the key .. buy chips when they open (around 11?) . Altho i know not everyone wants to have chips at this time!

    • IF they remember to salt them.

    • Wow 15 upvotes, I must be the only who likes soggy chips (as long as it's not cold).

    • +1

Locally you can ask for yours to be out of a fresh batch if you're willing to wait 5-10minutes. That's more due to a friendly manager here, still worth a try elsewhere though.

    • +1

I have had the complete opposite experience.. i.e. they are rarely bad.. May be because I tried them most when they were $1 last time and sell like hot cakes..

Also if you are buying at odd hours, then ofcourse its hard luck.. but lunch/dinner time, they are just fine!

  • Where is the best and cheapest chips? Maccas, KFC or somewhere else?

    • +6

      my local fish n chips

    • +1

      This is the cheapest :)

    • +13

Macca's don't sell chips, they sell fries.

      …yea, I'm that guy.

    • your corner shop… the one that still wraps their chips in paper ;-)

      • +7

And only if they wrap them in paper, though in some instances in one of those cardboard trays is ok too. But only if minimum chips is on the menu which should be an overheard board above the fryers.

Any place that starts off with Small Chips on the menu or they serve chips out of red "hot food" cups is best to be avoided.

While you're there, grab ya self couple of potato cakes, a dimmy, a Passiona and a chiko roll.

Oh and you're unaustralian if you don't like passionas.

        • Wtf is a passiona?

        • +1

@CVonV: Passiona or Pasito for the cheaper alternative ;)

Passiona is pronounced Pashi-oh-nah (not Passion-a)

        • +1

          LOVE passionas* ….

          *when i was a kid

        • @SmiTTy:
Have you had those Passiona icy poles that has 2 poles so you can split it and share?

        • @rompastompa:

Ahh those.. yeah nah was never into em.. creaming soda though was tops

        • You forgot the battered sav, mate.

    • +1
    • +3

I'd have to say Nandos, consistently good and crispy peri peri chips!

      • +1

Need to take-out a loan, but they're great!

  • +2

    Had 9 pieces yesterday….Must…Resist.

    Just take my money ffs.

    • +2

      No more 9 for $9.95 but. :(

      • +2

What's up in Australia where they say but at the end?

        • Good question.

        • +1

Not Australia generally. I think it must be a Westie thing.

        • @manic: Yea, na, I'm sure it's all of Oz, but.

        • +1

          @rompastompa: Certainly not in VIC

        • +1

          @phoenixx:

Yeah the first time I heard it, I thought she added a random "butt" to her sentence…

I'm going to the shops butt.

        • +1

Yeah, nah! You're wrong. Must just be the company you keep, but.

        • We like but's.

        • I think it's sorta like Queenslanders how they say aye at the end of every sentence aye

        • +1

          @montorola:

queenslanders? yeah… na, it's new Zealanders, stop trying to steal our lingos!

        • @inose: In Ireland, it's …so

          "How's it going, so"

  • +2

Is it just me or are the chips never salted when you get them from KFC?

    • +1

Is it just me or are the chips never salted when you get them from KFC?

My near store is opposite too much salt.

      • +1

        Hahahahaha

      • +4

What is too much salt…? How can you have too much chicken salt???

        • +3

They put so much that after I ate it I could not feel my lip …. lol …

    • +2

Family took KFC to the drive ins last Friday night. Chips had no salt. Annoying!

      • +12

        Did you feel insaltEd?

        • -1

Asalt! And (running the radio for 2 hrs was no good for the) battery!

  • +3

What's with the singled out city discrimination of Newy? Do we eat too many chips?

    • As per Facebook, "TAS & Newcastle have their own unique products on the menu during this time"

    • +1

The $1 chip deal can be ordered using the Xpress App, which can be used at the majority of stores in the Newcastle area. I noticed the $5 Popcorn chicken snack box was being promoted.

      • +2

        Thanks, it works a treat.

  • +11

Anyone remember when KFC adverts honestly depicted their customers?

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UHSt8I3pt6s

    • never saw this before, but it's amazing

    • +4

      that's glorious.

also wonderful: the 15 second mcdonalds ad that youtube played before i got to watch the KFC commercial.

    • +4

In order to watch that ad, i had to sit thru an ad for mcdonald's $1 frozen coke :S

      • +4

You tube has adverts? You folks should install Adblock Plus. Yes, it even works in Youtube, with Chrome desktop at least.

        • +1

Surely you jest, it blocks video ads from YouTube, the ones that play before the content you want to watch plays?

Does it skip straight to your content or is it a black video player window for 5 seconds?

        • +1

          @malouphix: Straight to vid

        • @BlazinPast: That's awesome! Thanks guys.

        • +1

@malouphix: use ublock origin. It's far more light and effective than ad block.

        • +2

          @malouphix:

I'm very reluctant to watch YouTube vids on Mobile or ipad because they both lack adblock plus :(

        • +1

It's at that point I realise how effective adblock is.

        • Make sure if you get it to disable it for ozbargin!!

    • A Don Draper special.

    • You mean the farm animals right?

  • +1
