S6 or iPhone 6 - Constant Struggle

Hi guys,

Still can't decide which one to go for. I use my phone to watch videos/FB/whatsapp.. Not a sophisticated user.

I was going for the S6 because it's cheaper on the plan then I heard people saying the bloat ware f the phone up so much.. My question is what's everyone's experience after 2-3 months?

Thanks

No experience with either, but the S6 should run perfectly (from a on-line review and technical stand point). They are both amazing and top of the line flahships, and I believe you won't regret going with either. It comes down to Android vs ios. I would go for the S6, because of its design and Android OS.

I went from an iphone 5 to a note 4, and now regret that I didn't go to a iphone 6. I'd suggest an iphone

I think the better question would be, would there be someone who've bought both of them and have an unbiased opinion on them? That said, I think there were several people on Which Mobile Phone Do You Have and Why? who have S6 and people who have iPhone 6. That'd probably be somewhere to start from.

Well, no experience on either, other than being surrounded by people with iPhone 6 and sort of liking following the mobile phone market.

Well at least on the paper, S6 is has the best SoC, best storage (UFS 2.0) and RAM (well, in terms of LPDDR4, not size) on Android front, with Touchwiz from Samsung (which many takes as a negative, for a reason). From what I gather, they've removed a lot of features (or bloat depending on where you stand on), but I've seen people complaining about performance nonetheless (RAM leakage mainly, that's supposedly fixed on 5.1.1). That said, I personally think it's the best Android phone out there in terms of hardware (barring the non-detachable batteries and lack of mSD card support, of course).

iPhone 6. Well, 6s + other iPhone models (rumoured 4 inch model) are rumoured to be announced. Also there is rumours on Force Touch being implemented on next model. That said, I don't think I have much to talk about since an iPhone is an iPhone. If you want iOS, iPhone 6 is the latest one available there.

Why not have both?? As the Mexicans would say

What phone are you using now

    • Currently using the 5s

      • +3

        stick with iphone
if you are undecided and move to android, you'll prolly hate it

these days they are pretty similar though

Samsung is very good of course, especially build quality. However TouchWiz kills all the enjoyment, they simply destroyed smooth Android experience with bloatware.
    I'd go with iPhone.

IMHO If you need something cheaper - choose phone with better android implementation / less changes from stock / not Samsung, e.g. Nexus 5-6, LG G4, Z3, 1+1

    • I forgot to mention I'm not buying it outright. Due to recontract

Why do people buy ~$900 flagship phones to basically chat on? Lol

    • Haha I guess just following the market

      • +1

Just keep in mind your phone will probably be almost as powerful as a low-end laptop. You can do almost anything on it. Don't limit yourself to just chatting on it cause it'd be a waste :p

Both phones are good. It depends on the personal preference and the budget. You can get S6 for $700 (or less) on specials and iPhone will be around $800. Personally I will go with the special on a day.
I would like to comment on Bloat part. Every one says S6 comes with bloat, but for me iPhone itself has lot of AppCrap from Apple; e.g. Passbook, Stocks, Newsfeed, iBooks, Apple watch, Game center, Compass, Voice Memos, Tips, health, Podcasts and few others. Some people may use them but for me they are crap and waste space.

    • Heh, say hello to two Internet app, two store apps, along with other unwanted s-stuff that you cannot remove :)

      • +1

That is why Nexus is the best or Rooted mobile with no crap.
My rooted Huawei X2 has only one page of apps, used only for making phone calls, messaging and music player. No Google, no Optus and no Huawei apps.

Can we remove apps from jailbroken iPhone?

        • I have no clue, not an iPhone user myself.

  • +3

I have a Nexus 5 myself and prefer it over the iOS.

My wife is like you "watch videos/FB/whatsapp.. Not a sophisticated user.". She much prefers her iPhone 6+. Perhaps because it's what she's use to.

To be honest, I'd stick with your 5S for what you do. If you want a bigger screen get an iPhone 6+.

I'm not sure what the SGS6 battery life is like, but the iPhone 6+ battery is phenomenal.

If you ever have a warranty issue with your Samsung, you'll curse the day you didn't buy an iPhone.

Samsung warranty process is just terrible. Apple is the opposite, you cannot fault it.

  • unchain your heart. 300 bucks. Oneplus One

    Waste not want not,
    'Never settle'
kinda resembles Steven Jobs, dont ya ?

    Welcome to Android 51.

    * Although, occasionally ilook at the emotionUI huawei y550/ support mSD+battery easily removable, as superior, you likely not miss these minor quiblings on +1 ph.

    • best wait for the oneplus 2 in the upcoming month ;)

  • If I may weigh in as a previous Samsung S3/iPhone 5S/Sony Z3 and current iPhone 6 Plus owner, I think WhatsApp, Facebook, messaging and other social media apps you may use won't differ very much across the platform but when you say watch videos, do you mean YouTube or media you've bought through iTunes? If it's the latter I recommend the iPhone 6. Depending on your preferences you may very well love the screen size upgrade, or at least get used to it. The battery life will also be a pleasant and worthy upgrade.

One notable thing to keep in mind is that the closer we get to September the more likely you are to find deals on the iPhone 6 as its S-variant will be out soon. If your upgrade is not urgent, I highly recommend that you hold off buying either until mid September. I am not sure about how the other phone plan price cycles but I can't imagine it's going to remain the way it is when the new iPhone is released. People with more knowledge in that area will correct me I'm sure

    Too many First World problems!

My wife had been using iPhone 3, 4 and 5 before switching to Galaxy S5. She said by the end of her contract she wants to go back to iPhone 6 or maybe 7 by then. She does use her phone for fb, YouTube, WhatsApp, WeChat and that camera!

If no budget issues get the iPhone they are generally better in quality. The Galaxy can do the same job but I just dislike that cheap plastic feel especially when the paint comes off on the edges.

    • You shshould keep up with the time. Galaxy S6 is not made with plastic.

      • -1

Yes you are right. The S5 is but the S6 is not. But you know what? The Samsung Galaxy phones always has that cheap feel to it and the S6 is no different.

No I am not an Apple fan. I dislike Apple and I had been using many other Samsung products.

        • I believe the S6 is vastly different to previous Samsung products in that it does feel premium. Not sure how you can state that it feels cheap. Each to their own i guess.

  • Comes down to which os u like better. Ios or android. Iv gone back to iOS. With a 5s I got for $200

  • Be cool and get a Microsoft Lumia 640 XL

    • Depends if the OP has all of his/her app needs available on the platform (hopefully Windows 10 will fix this).
