    Measurements look good.

    • +1

This BlitzWolf looks identical to the Tronsmart charger I ordered last month, apart from the branding. Manufacturer markings are all the same, even the white cardboard box it came in is the same style. I've pretty sure a whole bunch of companies just order the same charger but slap their own logo on it.

I've been EXTREMELEY happy with the Tronsmart! My wife and family are much happier with it, as now we don't need a snake-pit of different cables under the coffee table. Before we had issues with accidentally plugging a tablet into a mobile charger and burning out the charger, or waking up to a completely flat mobile phone after accidentally plugging a Samsung into an HTC charger or vice versa. When guests arrived with iPods, iPhones, iPads it was even worse. It was a real nightmare. This charger eliminates all those issues. It'll also be fantastic for travelling, as I only need one charger for all our stuff, and the Fig-8 cable means I just use a different cable instead of a stupid heavy travel adapter that often won't fit behind a hotel fridge or TV set. Wow, that sounded like an advertisement. But it really has been great!

Thanks @banggood, I just ordered a spare from you!

  • How does one use the cashback thing here? I've got a cash rewards account?

    • +1

Click the cashback button below the picture on this page then press the 4.8% standard cashback.

      • Did all that, didn't work unfortunately, oh well.
It took me to their site, manually searched for the product, added the code, ensured adblock off, no luck.

I do use different emails for different services, maybe that.
([email protected], [email protected], [email protected], [email protected]) etc - for anti-spam stuff.

        EDIT:
I spent $670 on the weekend on Hotels.com and didn't know they are on cashrewards, LOL ? (derp) man dumb, dumb, dumb, I need to learn how to do this properly, clearly
        DUMB! lol
        Kill me.

        • Is the booking on hotels.com refundable? :)

        • @daveaus:

Pretty confident it wasn't and for $30 saving ? I dunno if it's worth it. It's a lesson learnt though.
I've seen many posts about how people didn't get their reward so clearly it's a cookie thing or I just need to learn.

          What did I do wrong?

I logged into cash rewards, hit a CONTROL F5, left the tab open.
Came back to this tab, clicked the C- then pressed the 4.8% - it opened cash rewards.
I then clicked the button to "Go to Store"
From there, manually searched out the product.
          Added it.
          Added the code
Checked out with Paypal - done and dusted. Am I dumb? Should've paid CCard or actually read something, right?

        • +1

@hamwhisperer: You don't get any notification of a cash back. It will appear on your cash rewards page in a few weeks and you can take out the cash a few weeks after that.

        • @daveaus:
So how does one know it was successful then?
          Thanks for the help regardless.

        • I did the same thing…. derp.. I guess it's not like a big loss just have to remember cash rewards the next time…. sigh

        • @hamwhisperer: Check the following url in a few days, if its on the list its been successful. https://www.cashrewards.com.au/rewards Some retailers take longer to appear than others.

Anyone bought from last deal any good?

More and more phone and tablet need 2A nowadays to charge. I am wondering some need 5.xv will that be OK?

    • I have a Tronsmart that looks identical to this one apart from the name. I've been extremely happy with it. eug posted a website (first comment) showing a test which loaded 3.5A onto each port (which may have been the limit of his test equipment) but he also loaded it up to nearly 9A using multiple ports before it cut out. He said there is no individual current limiting per port, so each port should theoretically handle as much as the cable can draw, as long as the connectors can handle it. I don't think I've ever any device use more than 3.5A, and that was a weird HP device which certainly isn't common.

When USB 3.1 comes out we might start having issues with older chargers. USB 3.1 is supposed to handle more than 90W for powering laptops etc.

Great and all, but it isn't approved to connect to Australian electrical systems, so if there is a fire your insurance may not cover you.

    • I wonder what sort of insurance policy hotels have.

    • +1

Its important to be approved, since you will most likely use it at night for charging your mobile devices.

      • Insurance aside, if a device has a CE certification, it's safe enough for the whole of Europe. I think that's safe enough for me!

This charger has the CE, FCC (US), and PSE (Japan) certifications printed on the side.

        • +4

This charger has the CE, FCC (US), and PSE (Japan) certifications printed on the side.

Uh huh, and they are sure to be genuine? Can we check them some how?

Chinese manufacturers just print those on anything.

        • @A3Australia: I suppose you can request the test reports. The internal circuitry does look fine - nothing like those horrible cheapies with poor designs and insufficient isolation. It does look hand-soldered, but if the quality is consistent, it should be ok.

    • +2

The AU plug is not approved? Honestly curious for use at my workplace.

      • It isn't the plug, it is the device that isn't approved. Having the correct plug isn't the issue.

        • +1

It isn't the plug, it is the device that isn't approved. Having the correct plug isn't the issue.

The device has no Electrical Safety Approval for Australia, nor does the cable assembly.

    • While this may be true AND the reviews might be fake, if they aren't? … it does sound like a half well built piece of hardware, to be honest.

    • Anybody know of similar product that are approved? Curious to know what the alternatives are.

Recently got an Orico OPC-2A4U from CPL for $30 and am pretty happy with it. A bit bulky and only 2 ports give faster charging but seems ideal for travelling in terms of not having to worry about what plug to use.

Can you put the Australian price in the title? This is OzBargain not USBargain

    • +6

People use different payment methods which have their own exchange range and this rate is always fluctuating. So if the OP were to convert this US price into AUD now, it could possibly be 20 cents more expensive in a couple of hours due to an increase in the exchange rate.

      • But the website has a A$ option (works to A$21.12)

        • I believe that when the value of the US dollar changes with respect to the Australian dollar, the US price stays the same. But the Australian price changes.

        • +2

          @twocsies:

Hehe, that's because we're converting the fixed USD price to AUD :)

Are they the same thing? The port will depend on your phone needed and provide amp? So doesn't matter which port plug in? Because old model some port provide 2.1A and some only 1A.

But 5V/8A, what about if put 5 iPad in which all need 2.1A each?

    • When you do, You may want to stay 10m away!

    • Are they the same thing? The port will depend on your phone needed and provide amp? So doesn't matter which port plug in?

That I-tech one looks like it's fixed - some ports provide 2.1A and some 1A. They do that to save money on the extra chip that does the sensing, and simply use fixed sense resistors instead.

Because old model some port provide 2.1A and some only 1A.

This BlitzWolf one looks like it has the chip that detects what device you plug in, so you can plug any device into any socket, just like the IQ feature on the Anker charger.

But 5V/8A, what about if put 5 iPad in which all need 2.1A each.

They'll only get 1.6A each. It'll be kinda like plugging an ipad into an iPhone charger. It'll charge, just more slowly.

      • They'll only get 1.6A each. It'll be kinda like plugging an ipad into an iPhone charger. It'll charge, just more slowly.

So if just plug in one iPad it will adjust it to 2.1A or it will still just provide 1.6A?

        • 2.4A. Basically, all the USB sockets are connected in parallel, so the device can take as much current as needed as long as it's below the fuse limits.

The charger "tells" the device what kind of charger it is. The device will then draw the appropriate amount of current for that charger.

Chargers usually tell the device its capabilities with a specific resistor across the USB data pins. Smarter chargers like these have a USB adaptor emulator IC (example) which detects what device you plugged in, and sets the resistance accordingly.

Cheaper chargers like the one you linked to before have fixed resistors on each port. That is why only some ports can charge certain devices at full speed.

        • @eug:

Astrotek 5 PORT USB SMART CHARGER with 5 Smart IC insdie, 5V/ 8A
          http://www.astrotek.com.hk/ProductDetails.asp?ProductName=AT…

I am still not sure whether this one is fixed because it didn't label what current on each port. Also no information from Astrotek web site.

But the other model from Astrotek they did mention the current on each port.

          http://www.astrotek.com.hk/ProductDetails.asp?ProductName=AT…

        • @superforever: It's a little confusing… it says it has a smart IC so it should be anything on any port. But then it mentions specific ports with specific currents.

Buy, try, and report back? :)

        • @eug:

Buy, try, and report back? :)

emailed Astrotek to ask, our supplier have no idea. They said it is fixed but if it is fixed it should label the current on the port but the AT-UPS-010B didn't.

  • +10

Thought I should provide an account of my previous experience with this product.

I bought this last time it was posted on OzB.
Item arrived quickly, which was good.

However on arrival one of the USB ports did not work - As in it did not charge at all. Subsequently two more of the ports stopped working shortly after (within a couple of hours). I was down to a two USB port charger for this price. I stopped using it after this and applied for a refund - who knows if the other two may have also failed over time?

To the credit of banggood they were very helpful with their customer service and refunded me. I was very impressed with their customer service and could not fault them. However it also became apparent that I may have not been the only customer that experienced this problem with the Blitzwolf product. But maybe I just got a dodgy one.

So buy at your own risk. Personally I bought an Anker 40W charger after this for $46 delivered. Yes, three times the price however the new Anker product is flawless and therefore I would recommend that over the Blitzwolf.

    • +5

I almost bought one until I read your post… Thanks….

    • +1

Ouch… I hope yours was an isolated incident. Even when I worked at an AppleCentre we had about 3-4% Dead On Arrival failures, industry standard is around 5%, so faulty eletronics are not uncommon. I just ordered one of these, and I have been happy with my Tronsmart which looks identical and has been going strong with all ports for a month.

Thanks for your writing up your story, it's good to know these things. If I absolutely had to depend on a charger (I've been at weddings where nobody could find the bride because her mobile was flat, and she didn't know the street address of the church!) $46 for an Anker seems like a bargain, so it's something to consider.

      • My Anker charger hasn't had much use yet (sporadically charging iphone/ipad though i have other dedicated chargers for those on my bedside table) but when I go oversead in a couple of weeks it will get quite a workout. However so far it has worked as expected and has reached 2A charging, something that this blitzwolf seemed to have some difficulty with.

Should have mentioned that in the earlier post too: I also didn't often recieve the full charging capacity of my device from the blitzwolf product (whether it be 1.0A or 2.0A) but I did get it from the Anker charger. Again, whether it was just my device or common to all of them I cannot say.

Also, I have had nothing but good experiences with banggood up until this unfortunate event. I will continue to shop with them, but I just won't be buying a blitzwolf charger any time soon.

    • +2

However on arrival one of the USB ports did not work - As in it did not charge at all. Subsequently two more of the ports stopped working shortly after (within a couple of hours).

Are all your USB cables definitely fine? Plugging in a faulty USB cable can short the outputs, blowing the individual internal fuses. Each socket has its own fuse. All the sockets are connected in parallel.

I killed two sockets on my Anker 5-port charger. One was with a bad cable and the other by accident when connecting a meter. I replaced the fuses and they worked fine after that.

      • hmmm not something that I had considered but will have a look. if i can just figure out how to open the case…

however i haven't had any issues with my cables in the past on any other devices.

    • Using Anker charger and happy with it so far.
Was wondering how is this one compare with my Anker since this cost half the price of the Anker.
After reading your post, I felt I made the right choice for price I paid for.

    • Do you have a link to the Anker charger please? Where did you buy it?

    • On occasion there are units that pass through the quality test, sometimes it is also the charging cable of the device that is faulty. We have had a lot of positive reviews from these chargers and a few cases of faulty ones too. They offer a similar function to Ankers and am sorry you didn't want to give it a second try. As you have stated we did offer for replacement or refund and stand by the BlitzWolf charger and our quality guarantee policy.

  • Bought one. Thanks, OP

Do you mean the 12W charger? If so then it should. The 12W charger supplies 5V at 2.4A, which this can do according to the specs.

      • Yes, thanks for replying with the info.

  • When do you have stock for the white one?

    • That looks like an Anker copy. Whether or not the internals are good and safe, who knows.

  • Ok, received mine on Monday…Works ok, but as soon as I plug in a device for charging, it makes an annoying "zzzzzzzz" sound…Anyone else have this problem? Is so darn annoying and gives me a headache. I am gonna write to Banggood Customer Service to make a complaint…

    • I got mine today. No noise from mine. Works well. I'm amazed at how quickly it arrived. 13 days is unprecedented for regular post from China/HK. In all the years I've been buying stuff from Chinese sellers, this is the shortest shipping time EVER. Item was well packed. @nrg2010 I had exactly the opposite experience to you.

      • Yes, I can't complain about the delivery time, it arrived quick and well packed. But that high-pitch noise is doing my head in…..Wrote to Customer Service and hope a replacement can be sent (or refund).

      • Mine arrived yesterday. I just had it running for two hours with about 6A of loads hooked up to it. It buzzes very softly when one small low-power device is connected, but stops buzzing when more things are added. A shame, as it's probably just an issue which could be fixed with better potting of the inductor windings.

I'm usually really susceptible to electronic buzzing noises and they drive me crazy, but luckily this is quiet enough that half a metre away I can only hear it if I really concentrate. Most chargers buzz a little if you put your ear right up to them. I probably wouldn't be able to have this one sitting next to the bed while sleeping, but it should be OK in the office.

  • So mine has arrived and I'm testing it right now. ONLY my ipad air 2 is plugged in and wifi and bluetooth is on.
I'm playing a movie over Plex over wifi and I'm losing 1% battery about every 10 minutes, that's not ideal.

To my knowledge the ipad air requires 2.4 not 2.1a of power to charge and use. I'm PRETTY sure the big 12W charger from Apple will charge and be usable for the ipad AIR2.

    Anyone else seeing this?

EDIT: also the movie is widescreen, so there's black bars to boot - not all of the LED / LCD is being illuminated / worked. Therefore even more power draw could be occuring if it was a 4:3 movie. Heck I could be using Facetime, running full 4:3, wifi and camera….
I've plugged it into the other end of the charger, see how it goes.
