Also, with the discount code, 1TB is $439.20 - cheaper than MSY.

    • 1tb is HUGE for an SSD. Will add to the description. Cheers.

  • is that compatible with Acer laptop on recent deal?

    • +1

      Yes

      • Thanks. Any suggestions if samsung is better or go with cheap SSD?

        • They're very well recommended. I own one of these and they're great. Mine was about $140 delivered and that was a good price at the time (a month or two ago).

    • The Kingston 8GB RAM same price as MSY with the discount $95 —> $76 Free Delivery.

      Kingston 8GB

This might be an overkill to the Acer if the Acer is only SATA2 which maxes transfers around the 250MB/s mark, not worth it. You could get a much cheaper SSD.

      • Thanks edy4eva, any Sata2 bargain deal you can suggest?

        • This deal.
It's backward compatible with SATA 3Gb/s (SATA2) and SATA 1.5Gb/s. You'll notice a big performance improvement compared with a HDD.

        • Any cheaper SSD might be a better value, example the Crucials or Sandisks. No difference in terms of read performance on sata2 when compared with the Samsungs.

        • @edy4eva:

Agreed, but I don't think it has been determined whether the "Acer laptop on recent deal" has SATA 2 or SATA 3 (the laptop model number would help).

        • @1bug:

it's SATA 2 confirmed. just read the threads.

Any deals on 500GB 850 EVOs? Cheapest I've seen is 269 from umart (where I'm able to pick up so no additional shipping fee).

EDIT: With 20% off it looks like they're selling for $240 delivered from Futu Online. Nice one!

    • Oops, my mistake.

  • plus 2% reward from cashreward.

  • Can someone pls advise if this will be compatible with my HP DV6 6135tx laptop?

    • +1

      yes it does

I'm assuming this laptop is several years old. Unless you have a modern laptop with SATAIII, you won't get the performance benefit from a high performance drive. If this is the laptop I think you have, go for a cheap and cheerful (eg. the MSY deal posted within the last 24 hours). It will still run blindingly fast compared to your old HDD (platter disk).

Think of it this way, most people would get 85% of the performance from a cheap SSD, 100% of the performance from a very expensive SSD and about 10% performance from a regular HDD. If you want to a lot of extra money for the extra 15% then knock yourself out. However, any upgrade from an HDD to an SDD will reap a HUGE performance increase :)

FYI - These topics are religions to some people. I'm sure someone will argue that it's a 17% gain from the low-end model to the high-end model :)

      • thanks for the very detailed response, i didnt realise how old that laptop is now. yes i bought it way back in 2012 from a deal posted in ozbargain. last piece available in swanston st DS, brings back fond memories :). I will have a look at the MSY deal hopefully shipping would be included as i am now in brissie. How do i determine whats compatible with my laptop?

      • Comes to $121 including shipping for OCZ-ARC brand of SSD. Will it be worthwhile going for the samsung one for 20 more bucks?

      • I'm pretty sure it's a 18% gain, not a 17% gain as you said…

  • This was $144 yesterday @ Kogan when they had the 10% sale.

    • They had sold out well before yesterday. It would say "one left", but you couldn't proceed to checkout.

      • Oh ok.
I didn't try to buy as I was waiting for today's sale :-(

$140 is alright, but only about $15 savings.

This link should return search results on all SSDs available on C20EXTRA code. Can someone please editing OP? I have not clue how to do it.

Pretty good deals on the BX100 120GB from Kogan @ $76

    • Sorry mate, what are you implying? There are cheaper brands but the Samsung Evo is one of the better options in relation to warranty and quality.

      • +2

Stating facts and options for people on ozbargain.

        Not implying anything.

Evo might suit some whilst BX100 might suit others. $20 as a percentage is not small for a 120GB drive.

Crucial is consider one of the better ones out there for consumer grade SSD, BX100 is similar to MX550 less the 265bit hardward encryption.

        • Good point. By the way, i've heard that people should stay away from Kingston V300's and fork out the extra cash for any alternative. Just in case anyone was weighing up their options.

    • Okay. Poor grammar. Figured I typed a bunch of crap that have made little sense.

      It is meant to be:

Can someone please edit the original post and include the link. I do not have clue on how to do it….

  • Good job!

  • .
Thanks Unseatingcargo1 for posting this I got the 500gb and it's $29 cheaper than MSY :)
very tempted by the 1TB ….. maybe tomorrow if any left for my future build after Win10 released and X99 3.1 USB mb's readily available
Massdrop have voting for SSD deals no prices yet (840 EVO top candidate so far) now I don't have to worry about it, Soundblaster X7 I'm watching as well
    .

  • for a desktop pc that is approx 6 years old, which of these drives would be recommended

    http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/SanDisk-SSD-PLUS-240GB-2-5-Intern…
    http://www.msy.com.au/pc-components/14394-ocz-arc-100-arc100…

    • neither. pay a few dollar more for something better. (and more reliable based on online reviews).

      • should i be concerned that it will be shipped from Hong Kong?

        • i dont know which i go for bx100 (22$ cheaper) or samsung evo (faster n have 5 yrs warranty) both really good.

        • only running 3Gb Sata so the bx100 would prob be sufficient

  • Anyone know if this comes with a 2.5-3.5" adapter?

    • I dont think so from the unboxing I watched.

      • Thanks.

        • The 840EVO did not, assume it will be the same for 850EVO. Prob let it dangle somewhere in the case or just fit it with one scree. Since no moving parts, doubt it willl be an issue. Or pick a cheap one up from ebay.

840EVO did not come with a sata-usb cable too. So people use it for laptops, you will prob need to borrow one or pick one up from ebay.

        • @googleyahoo69: Thanks for the detailed response. I found out my case has a slot for it so bonus! I've got the adapter too so bought one.

  • Bought a 250gb SSD, thanks OP!

  • Bought an EVO 250GB (not idea why) from Futu. Got an email today saying it's shipped. Hope it will arrive soon!

  • +1

Thanks OP! Just bought a 250gb SSD. My first SSD! Installing it in my current desktop computer. Will be a good project to do next weekend.

    • +1

i'd wait until windows 10 is released in a months 10 then do a fresh clean install on your new shiny ssd!

    It is $133 from Kogan.
It is say out of stock, wait 30 mins or so, item gets regularly updated after someone buys one.

    • I wasn't that lucky. Mind you, the delivery time from Kogan is a bit of a pain.

      • Paid a bit more for Futu Online. ordered on Friday, shipped on Friday afternoon, arrived this morning.

        • Yet to receive mine. I would have bought it before you too :P

  • Lowest price ever for Aussie stock?
