Free Entry Adults & Kids to Australian Museum and Powerhouse Museum Sydney 27-28 June

1810

Saw an ad in the local paper for free entry for adults & kids to two Sydney museums this coming weekend, and confirmed on the museum website. After this weekend, kids under 16 will always enter for free.

As of 27 June 2015, general admission will be free for kids under 16 at the Australian Museum and Powerhouse Museum, thanks to the NSW Government's initiative to make culture, arts and science more accessible to children.

To launch this exciting new era, we are offering adults as well as kids a chance to visit for free for one weekend.

That includes our current major exhibition, Wildlife Photographer of the Year – which means a saving of $51 for a family of four.

The Wildlife Photographer of the Year exhibition is definitely worth seeing.

Facebook Event:

On 27 & 28 June, we are inviting adults as well as kids to visit the Australian Museum free of charge!

  • thanks to the NSW Government's initiative to make culture, arts and science more accessible to children.

Why don't they just send them to Melbourne ?

  • Does "adults as well as kids" means the adult has to go along with a kid in order to get free entry??

It says "free for all", I don't think you need to have kids. Just walk close to a kid if you need to. :P

I've a friend who's about 5" tall and looks alike kid, problem solve!!

          I used to have a friend…

        • I have a kid that is > 5 foot tall.

I have 3 kids and am willing to hire them out for the day.

  • Haven't been to either, which one is the better one to go to in terms of things to do?

I'm assuming powerhouse museum might have some activities to do for kids vs exhibitions at the Australian museum?

Powerhouse museum has more on science & technology and arts. For younger kids I'd say Australian museum would have more interesting exhibits. As a kid I loved all the stuffed animals and skeletons.

Edit: Check out what's on at Powerhouse and Australian museum.

I imagine both museums will be very crowded this weekend. Hopefully not as bad as The Louvre when they have free entry.

Museum is pretty crowded whenever they have free entry. Vivid used to be good as well, but now it is super crowded with no place to move even at Circular Quay.

Yep I'm done with vivid, this year was just ridiculous..

  • which one has The Wildlife Photographer of the Year exhibition is definitely worth seeing.?

Let us know how it goes :)

  • do you need coupon?

    • No, just walk in.

  • planning to go both museum's .. whats cheap/good to eat around the area?

    • The Powerhouse Museum is really close to Chinatown, plenty of cheap eats there.

      • oh cool.

also forgot to ask are backpacks/ladies handbags allowed into the museum ?

        • I don't remember any restrictions last time I was there, but if not allowed, I'm sure they would provide storage.

  • Anyone go to either of these today? Thinking of going tomorrow. What do you think the lil and big kiddies like me would enjoy best? Any suggestions? Thanks.

  • The NSW government is generous compared to other organisations which offer free/discount entries to its local residents only. eg. theme parks, MONA. Hope the others have that courtesy as well and don't make it you or them.
