Astone AP-328 Media Player - $49.99 Plus Postage

230

Hi all,

This is my first post but I think it is worthy.

I bought one of these a while back for $20 or $30 more and it is the best little gadget I think I have ever bought!

Simply connect your hard drive full of movies to this box, hook it up to the TV, and settle into a nice groove in the couch.

They are on sale today for $49.99, which seems super cheap, plus postage. To me in WA it's $14.99, $9.99 to Sydney.

I can recommend these units, I've also got the WDTV, but for the price this is sensational. Maybe a great Christmas present, hook it up to the parents TV with a hard drive full of classic movies, and they'll be set for eternity!

Enjoy.

  • anybody have any shipping discount for shopping square?
I also bought one of these few weeks back for $20 more. I recommend it as well.

  • It's not big bargain as on eBay you can buy it for about 65$ including shipping :)

    Here is 60$ with shipping.

I think the site is Ozbargain, not OzBIGbargain…

Fact remains it is at least $5.00 (cheapest I can find on Ebay is $69.99) cheaper than Ebay. Plus that is assuming that you are in WA, if you are in NSW, it is $10.00 cheaper.

To me, that is a bargain. I was just saying it is a great price for a really good product, I don't see there being any need for you to point out that you can find the same product elsewhere at a more expensive price.

Doesn't really bother me, I don't have any affiliation with Shopping Square, just see your post as being pointless.

      • Well said +1

      • There is a fine line between bargain and 'advertising' though.

an you will find that the poster is not a rep for shoppingsquare, they already have rep here and he used to post a lot.

If they do free shipping then it would be awesome, otherwise not much bargain.

    They have same price here
    http://www.gizmomart.com.au/product_info.php?products_id=275…

    P/H is $15.95 aus-wide.

Note that this unit doesn't do H.264.

  • Hardly any bargain!
    $49.95 @ Gizmomart

    • Still $6.00 cheaper if you live in the Eastern States and want one today….otherwise, buy one at Gizmomart in the future for $6.00 more.

It is a bargain if you are in the market for the product and want to purchase it today.

That said, find it cheaper elsewhere and I'll be happy to admit that I'm wrong!

if the Unit does not play h.264 or full hi-def formats then it's about as good as your DVD player.
for $50 I would rather buy a DVD player that can play divx, plus a usb port, plus HDMI output.

I don't really understand the format stuff. I have the WDTV unit, and this seems to work as well as that at a third of the price.

I just watch movies and tv shows that I have accumulated over the years, and it seems to work really well for me.

I tried to find cheaper options, such as DVD players that play files off external hard drives, but had no luck.
I also take the unit with me when traveling for work, so I can watch shows in the hotel room, and it is much more portable than a DVD player.

    • superkieu, Astone also have the AP110D ($109) (http://www.xpmicro.com.au/cgi-bin/xpmicro/AP110D.html) for all those hi-def formats. I think this unit is well priced for 'standard-def', plus it does RMVB, which most Divx-DVD players don't. Plus the Astones are firmware upgradeable.

fwiw. i bought one of these a couple of days ago, postage is free. divx player among other things for less than $30

    http://cgi.ebay.com.au/RM-RMVB-MP3-MP4-AVI-MPEG-Divx-Xvid-HD…

    • I nearly bought one of these a few weeks back but they don't support MKV files

It is better to get model AP110D or higher, this one can not play HD formats, which are mainly coded by .264.

  • For those of you who already have it, i have a question.
As there is no chapters in Divx movies, is there any setting for playing the movie from middle e.g., if you had seen half of it the day before.
I am asking this because i have a DVD player which plays divx with usb but if you pause it for long it switches off and then you have to forward all the way which is very slow.

    • no you cant do that. It doesn't remember where you last stopped it. It doesn't take too long to go forward though.

  • Thanks goblin :)
