If you'd like it on your desktop install Android x86 (http://www.android-x86.org) in a virtual machine (like http://www.virtualbox.org).

    • You might. Or you could probably just change your User Agent ID.

      • Speaking of Agents… the CIA is in Wash DC, right?

So, why does this app need to:

        • record Audio (like coming Barbi & some Samsung TV's?)?

        • …send SMSs (msy cost you $$, in a phone)?

        • take photos & make videos?

        • read your contacts?

        No, thanks…I'll wait for a NYT deal… ;-)

        • I am not seeing any of those things. Are oyu sure you have the correct app.

          I see

          read phone status and identity
          modify/delete contents of USB device
add or remove contacts, create accounts,

          network access
          view network connections
          view wi-fi

          prevent phone from sleeping

          sync settings, read/toggle/statistics

        • I use Xiaomi MIUI 5 on my android phone. It lets the app install with the rights it thinks it's getting, then asks me what rights it really should give the app! I just answer 'no' to everything later! :-)

      • sorry, I didn't read it properly. You need to download their apps.

And that is a disturbing list of permissions. If your phone is rooted, there are apps to block those permissions.
        I'll decline.

Juddy, he is talking about the amazon appstore permissions. It may use SMS for carrier billing? (ie bill apps to your phone account.)

        • What's disturbing about it?

    • That'd work but I think many users would be happier with either Bluestacks (free through paid installs or 2 bucks a month for ad-free or the dangerous naughty way) or an application called Andy (free … I think).

Can't remember if these applications are emulators or tuned VMs but in any case they offer a pretty nice, fast Android experience with Google Play and everything else you'd expect on a phone or tablet. Some games are very playable on even modest PCs.

  • Paying for the news? Lol

    • Someone has to pay the journalists.

      • +1

        They're called politicians and it's illegal ;-)

    • Yeah IKR. Reddit costs nuthink the fools.

  • Amazon, or is it Bezos, owns WP, by the way.

  • Wish it were for New York Times, instead…

ALSO wish buying the post-deal product were Opt-In…

    • my free NY Times just ended so … this will do

  • Morning, TA. Thanks for sharing. :)

  • Can't get it to authenticate my account. Maybe because I'm logged in to Amazon AU normally and this is Amazon US only???
