OCZ Arc 100 240GB SSD $109 @ MSY, Was $125

340

Cheapest price currently for all three capacities of this drive (according to staticice.com.au). Great drive for the price, not well suited for notebooks though due to the relatively high power consumption at idle. Wouldn't be a problem for desktop PC's though. Check out the 'final words' from the review here for a quick overview

That was my post too, thanks for the heads up! I have unexpired that deal for those looking for delivery instead

  • " not well suited for notebooks though due to the relatively high power consumption at idle"

To be fair, for what I want - speeding up an old core2 Vista lappy for media on the move, the power consumption is similar to the lowest of spinning rust drive of the vintage I'd be replacing, and well under the average. Its upper limit is a bit higher tho.

OCZ barefoot 3 controller.. comments on reliability?

3-Year ShieldPlus Warranty, sounds good to me. Might chuck 2 in RAID0 for a bit of fun.

  • confirmed $109 in ultimo - purchased this morning at 11am.

  • wanted one to upgrade my years old lappy, but now you say it doesnt suit a laptop….

    • Depends on how old your laptop is. While this drive has relatively high power consumption for an SSD, it should still be on par with or likely better than a regular harddrive that is a few years old, so you wouldn't see any decrease in how long the battery lasts. It is more of a consideration for people looking to upgrade to an SSD in order to gain more battery life, or those who are trying to decide between this drive and another SSD which may have a lower power consumption but cost a bit more. For a budget upgrade of an old laptop, this drive would be a great increase in performance and wouldn't have any adverse impact on battery life

      • thanks, will do my own due diligence tinight. probably will pick up one.

  • I thought that OCZ went bankrupt because all their SSDs failed and they couldn't afford all the warranty claims? Did the brand get taken over by another company? I surely hope these are not the same SSDs

  • Thoughts on this vs the Kingston V300? (or any others 200gb+ around $100)

I am looking to buy pretty soon

    • im also interested in this

      an interesting comment by @Fobsessive

The Kingston V300 switched to a cheap NAND so the write speeds are horrible. Google up Kingston V300 bait and switch.

    • General reviews are much better for the Arc 100 compared to the Kingston V300. Search up both drives and 'compare' on this website and it will give you a quick comparison of both drives based on a number of factors. From memory the Arc 100 is a much faster and more consistent drive and at this price is a better buy than the Kingston. Also the Arc 100 is a newer drive as well

      • thanks!
        warranty looks good too

        have just ordered the arc

  • would this drive be ok to run on a desktop running a GA-MA785GT-UD3H motherboard with Sata 3Gb/s connectors?

If not what budget sdd would be a good alternative?

    • should be ok

  • I own one of these, it won't even fit into where a standard laptop hdd would fit, its too tall.

    • the 480GB version fits in my Acer ES1-411-C1WD

      • Must be just mine then.

  • Thanks schm2!

    Picked up a 480GB today from MSY@Fyshwick.

    • Perfect username for a Canberra resident!

  • Any suggestion SSD for laptop? Less than $100 and low power consumption? How is the $67 Sandisk?

  • would the 120gb ssd be suitable to replace the hdd in the acer v5-572pg deal posted earlier?

  • another question, if i use it to replace the 320gb hd in my i3 (1st generation) laptop, how can i keep the oem win7?

    • Use something like Acronis to make an image of the disk, swap the disks & image the new one. It will need to update the controller drivers & maybe require re-activation. NB: only a maybe.

  • 240 SSD C drive was chockers, picked up a 480, cheers

  • Thanks OP.

Just purchased a couple for two of my machines.
