This model has known USB 3.0 issue. There's AC68P model which fixed the issue.

    • The RT-AC68P is a router only. This one is the DSL-AC68U which is a modem router.

  • I have the router only version of this … Its loaded with features…
Highly recommended. No issues with usb3…

This is one of the best ones there…an ac1900…

    Range is very good…

  • Usb & DLNA was broken by fw 5007's "bug fixes" roll back to previous and all good.

  • I'm not too familiar with the technicallities of modem routers, but would this constitute as being NBN compatibile?

    • +1

This device is compatible with ADSL2/2+, ADSL, VDSL2, fiber and cable services.
So yes it is NBN compatible.

    • +2

If you have NBN already, then you only need a Router (without the modem). The Router version is the RT-AC68U ($215 at MSY)…
      http://www.msy.com.au/nswonline/peripherals/12331-asus-rt-ac…

If you currently have ADSL but want a better Router (eg. for better WiFi), you can bridge your current modem/router and connect it to the RT-AC68U (or any other router).

  • +1

The DSL-AC68U seems to the be one of the best modem router on the market.

Don't buy this modem, I bought this modem last year hoping to get better speed and stability but ended up buying another modem. As a router it's rock solid but the modem part is having some issues with dropouts and compatibilty with ISPs.

    • Which ISP did you have issues with?

      • +1

        Amnet

    • This modem is not ideal for someone over ~2.5km from the exchange i.e. >35db in noise.

      • +1

yes i'm about 2.8km from the exchange and the connection with this modem is horrible. I'm using Billion modem instead which gives stable connection around 8.8mbits/s

        • I bought this modem near christmas last year for $299 and distance from exhange line is 4.3 kms and with this modem I am not having any frequent drop out issues which I used to have with N600 and now I am getting speed of 4 Mbs and sometimes 5 as well.

I know not a good speed but at such distance, I am happy what I am getting.

Also, features are amazing. You have all possible settings what you can think of in this modem. QoS is brilliant, still in early stage but getting better.

You can access attached drive via iphone app. Torrents function is amazing.

  • I got this modem on the ebay 20% IT sale and its bloody brilliant, its this centuries billion n7800

    • How much did you end up paying for this during the eBay sale?

      • $263.20

  • i'm looking for a modem/router that is highly flexible and easily configurable to be able to limit functionality of certain targetted devices

e.g. limit bandwidth or access to certain sites like video streaming and social media for certain times of the day

how would this devices be, are there better alternatives?

  • I have this model, very happy with it.
Easy to setup, works very well. Fast, good WiFi coverage.

  • have one of these, good feature set, dd-wrt is not supported.

i am with tpg, connection drops frequently, more often recovers automatically sometimes needs manual restarts. this is annoying when use streaming videos.

regardless of the quality its less stable than my old billion with the tpg connection.

most useful and missing feature is to setup a recurring restart. still looking for a way to do it.
