Sony MDR1RNCMK2 Noise Cancelling Over-Ear Headphones $268 ($569.95 Sony Australia & JB) @ Harvey Norman

120

Sony's latest & most expensive noise canceling over-ear headphone available in Australia;

Still plenty in Store after I bought my one from their Bondi store yesterday as the orginal price($440) is not attractive;

$569.95 from Sony Australia and JBHIFI,353.46 USD from Amazon,however if purchased from some online store prices range from $305-400 plus possible delivery(delivered from HongKong perhaps?);

Check their 50 months interest free policy if purchase more than 1;there are old models(say MDR1RNC without MK2)as well which are not listed on their website,check the price instore to find if the price difference worths second thought;

Do some reserch on Bose Quiet&Comfort 25 as well before making the decision.

    For those not interested in the noise reduction but wanting a high quality pair of cans, Dick Smith have the Sony MDR-1A premium hi-res over ear headphones (a very highly regarded upgrade of the MDR-1R) for sale @ $261 at the moment.

    Great price, but I still would go for the Audio Technica ADG lineup for that price if you also play games with your headphones.

    • I bought Sony HW700DS from DWI for gaming purpose,world's first 9.1 channel wireless headphone,it could be used for PC,PS and Xbox,sound quality is good considering it is a wireless one,$329-439 from DWI,Kogan's price is even higher.

    • I wouldn't. They jacked the price a bit much over the AD700X when adding the microphone..

  • Are these wireless and do they come with a mic? Was looking for a new pair of headphones for gaming.

      it is not,try search Sony HW700DS and if interested you can check its price in DWI which varies from time to time.

      The equivalent of these which comes with Bluetooth and Mic is the mdr-1rbtmk2 (don't you just love the name). I bought mine for $350 on eBay including delivery. I've heard mixed reviews about the mic though (I don't use the mic on mine). These have solid reviews online.

      An updated model came out which is the MDR1ABT (as far as I can tell, this seems to pair faster to bluetooth devices). It's also much more expensive as it is newer.

      • DWI has this newer model today,$369 at the moment, this may drop for $30-50 within 4 months.

    • Thanks =)

  • Is this a good model? Looks like a good discount but I don't know anything about headphones. Will this be good for someone who has never bought headphones before?

      I highly recommend going into a good headphone store and trying headphones out for yourself. These aren't what most would consider cheap/budget headphones to try out. If you are in VIC, I can recommend a couple of stores to you (PM me if you like). Go into the store with what you're currently using, that way you can do a comparison with content you are familiar with.

      Especially if you are unsure about what you're after, you could very well end up getting a pair of headphones you like a lot more and pay a lot less for it. And there isn't a pair out there that satisfies everyone. I think the main driving factors for choice would be:
      - budget
      - source (are you using this with your PC, with your phone, connecting to a sound system at home, etc)
      - form factor (size & portability, preference for comfort, etc)
      - material you're listening to (movies, types of music, etc)

      A website that I really like for headphone reviews (don't take it word for word, but it's just to give you an idea of what is out there. You decide what you like best):

    • Haha,this is a question that may need a 5000+ words answer.But in short,if you want to buy a headphone that is mainly used on flights,trains,buses,etc(generally outdoor use) then this is a very good choice for now.

      If this price is a little more then you think a headphone should be,a $70-120 Sennheiser earphone(in ear) can make a real difference for "someone who has never bought headphones before",if lower than this budget then it is better to use the earphones come with your ipod or mobile phone.if you want an over-ear one which is "good",then in my opinion it may be at least $200.

  • I'm looking for a headphone to listen to music on the ipod and for videogames on console, pc and vita. Will use it for commute as well. I've been using the apple earpods and they stopped working properly so I think it is time to upgrade. Don't mind paying more since I will be using it constantly.

    • In your case I suggest you buy 2 two headphones,one for your ipod and vita,one for your consoles and pc,because the latter support standards like Dobly,DTS,PCM etc which offer 5 or 7-channel experience (especially useful when playing games like battlefiled 4) and a music headphone only supports 2 channels.For your PC and consoles I suggest the one I am uing Sony HW700DS,a wireless headphone which supports 9.1 channel,multiple platforms and multiple standards,it is around $350 from an online store named DWI,you can do some research on it to see if this is what you want.

      For your Ipod and vita,if you are looking for earpods,I personally suggest Sennheiser MX985 which is $120 from online stores;if it is an over-ear one,honestly it is hard to suggest,as ihavok suggested,it is better you enter a store and listen to them yourself.

  • Can't I just buy the more expensive headphone for PC and console with the 5 channel experience and then also use it for my ipod and vita? I prefer to just buy one instead of two

    • you can do so if the headphone is a wired one without receiver box but you won't like the sound for music from gaming/movie headphones because they are indeed for different purposes.

      If you only plan to buy one headphone,then buy a music headphone and use it for your PC as well.

  • which music headphone would you recommend then?

  • Harvey Norman has the MDR-1RNCMk2 bonus pack with MDR-ZX750BN also for $268.00

    Can't have enough headphones.

    • Can't have enough headphones.

      Wish that was true… Still contemplating whether I should get a pair since I already have a pair of QC25…

    • Lucky you,I guess this product is not available at all in most Sydney stores,it is like EB Games sale,when there is a price for a standard edition game,it applies to the steelbook/limited/special edition as well.

      Harveynorman is full of surprise,Last weekend I visited there to buy a $68 blood pressure monitor,and only paid $59.95 for it because they labeled the price wrong…
