$599 Upfront ($942.20 ALL IN) 3-Zone Monitored Home Alarm Installed Incl. 1-Year Monitoring @ SMS Security [Perth Only]

40

Our $599 Monitored Home Security Alarm Special should be suitable for most single story 3 or 4 bedroom homes and provides enough protection to cover the main concern areas and cover home insurance requirements for most insurers.

The system includes:

3 Pet Friendly Detectors
64 Zone Alarm Panel (allowing upgrades beyond the supplied 3 detectors)
Battery Backup
Internal Siren + External Siren & Strobe
5 Year System Parts Guarantee
2 Year Labour Warranty
Full Installation (single story) in Perth Metro Area

All for $599 when purchased with 12 months back to base alarm monitoring at $6.60 per week for landline monitoring (must have active landline) or $9.75 for GPRS monitoring. Double story installation additional - please call as you will need a custom quote. Total minimum cost over 12 months including landline monitoring is $942.20.

Our business is full security licensed and has been in operation since 2006 and we offer the longest warranties in the industry and pride ourselves on our customer backup and workmanship (you need to when offering long warranty terms!). The system in question utilises quality DSC components and represents a significant saving off our usual system pricing. In terms of there being cheaper deals in the market there is an offer from a national based competitor that is out there for even less upfront however it locks purchasers into a more expensive 3 year monitoring contract at a higher rate - I think also there are noticeable differences in the quality of the service and warranty period as well but I would encourage each individual to make up their own mind.

This is our first offer on Ozbargain so please be gentle and point out to us if there are any more details you would like or any changes we need to make to this post. Further information can be found on our website: http://www.smssecurity.com.au/alarm-specials/ or by calling our customer line on 08 9202 3822 or finally by emailing [email protected]

    What's the normal price?

    • Hi Luke, sorry should have made a note of that. The regular price is $899 with or without monitoring. This is the first time we have offered a discounted rate for locking in 12 months of monitoring as normally we provide monitoring on a pay as you go basis (at the same $6.60/$9.75 rate). It isn't exactly an apples for apples comparison for that reason but for a customer that would take monitoring regardless it equates to a $300 discount.

      • Hi OP, any deals for double story houses?

        • Hiya, Unfortunately because the costs of installing can vary wildly in two story installations depending on availability of crawl spaces and cable lengths to run I've been advised that it is best to get us out to direct quote or at least talk it through over the phone before we give a price. If you call just mention this offer though and we'll make sure that you get the same offer just with a direct quote for the extra work involved.

        • @lghulm:
          Thanks OP

        • @alwayslooking:
          Can I just add… 2 storeys suck!
I love the fact that our new house doesn't take up as much room on the property, but it's on a concrete slab and with a flat tin roof! (Can't get under the floor, can't get through the roof!)

This is not an unreasonable price. RAC charges $25/month, this company charges $28/month. You can get the alarm cheaper from other companies, but they lock you in for 3 years at a much higher cost (and keep increasing it, instead of decreasing it for loyalty - was paying $46/month by the time I left ADT).

Seems expensive to me, its only 3 motion sensors. At this price I'd want to skip the monitoring… these people do it for $50 more without contract: http://www.theinstallers.com.au/alarm-package-2/

      • yes, but you still need the alarm. From experience, that starts from around $1000 on its own.

        • They are charging $649 for a 3 sensor alarm.

        • @daveaus: But a 1-year contract is not that much. Not for this type of service anyway.
That package says "monitoring optional". So do they wire it into the phoneline for that price?

    • -3

But you need to be licensed to set it up for back-to-base. You are not allowed to touch your phone cabling. And you need to enjoy crawling through your roof area.

      • Especially crawling through a colourbond roof during summer in Perth !

      Uninstalled $399 http://m.ebay.com.au/itm/221609788841

Where was it uninstalled from? :)

Isn't Telstra shutting down its GPRS service in 2016, making the SMS/GPRS aspect of this package redundant?

    • There's still Optus and Vodafone.

Please put the real price in title

Its $938 which includes a year monitoring. Your title does not state this.

    • Hi Roary,

Got that in there now, thanks. To be clear the offer is $599 for a 3 Zone Monitored Alarm + $6.60 per week alarm monitoring for 12 months (total cost $942.20). Checking with the mods to see if we can make that clearer.

  • Anyone know of any deals for Sydney?

  • +2

I imagine people would have to be careful from here on in with NBN coming through. Most of the plans I'm looking at say that they're not compatible with B2B alarms!

    • Hi Snoop, There are different ways that we can handle the NBN but you are correct in saying that if you are switching to the NBN in the next 12-24 months (or are already on it) you would be better off with the GPRS monitoring setup - unfortunately this costs a little more but is detailed in the deal.

I've setup my house with 5 hikvision security cameras that push notifications and real time footage straight to my phone for 1/2 the price of this technology from the 90's.

    • +1

      this technology from the 90's.

Wow, look how cool you are with your super modern setup.

The fact is, an alarm system with audible and visible alert is a huge deterrent to a potential thief. It attracts immediate attention. A camera setup doesn't. If they want to break into your house with your ultra cool cameras, they just need to flick your circuit breakers off in your switch board. My bet is you don't have UPS backup on them and you'll never know anything has even happened till you get home.

Oh and, home insurance companies don't give a stuff about security cameras, but they give discounts for alarm systems.

      • +1

A lock on your switchboard solves all your problems.

Also I find people ignore house alarm sirens nowadays, they are more a nuisance then anything.

Combining both is a good way to go. Your alarm goes off and texts your phone, you then check your cameras and see unwanted people on / in your property, call police, sorted.

        • Just make sure you always check all your texts the moment you receive them. And always make alternative arrangements if you're in a plane, overseas on holiday, or in a noisy area. :)

        • +1

Note that generally you can't just put any old lock on your meter box / switchboard, it will have to be one supplied by your energy supplier.

        • +1

A lock on your switchboard solves all your problems.

As Snoop mentioned, has to be an approved lock and the prices can be insane, up to $100.

Also I find people ignore house alarm sirens nowadays,

That's true, but it does heighten peoples alert level and they'll be more inclined to call the cops if they see something else e.g a van reversed into your properties driveway, hearing glass break etc.

        • @eug:

as opposed to what, waiting 30 minutes for some 2 bit security company to drive by your house or call you anyway to let you know your alarms going off?

and a lock " up to $100 " is well worth it if it means you have a secure house.

        • @Whomastadon: Wow, welcome to 3 weeks ago.

as opposed to what, waiting 30 minutes for some 2 bit security company to drive by your house

Maybe you need a better security company.

and a lock " up to $100 " is well worth it if it means you have a secure house.

Locking your switchboard does not mean you have a secure house.

        • @eug:

Neither does the best security alarm. It solves the problem mentioned though.

I, myself, would rather know my house was being robbed instantly rather than relying on any security company.

        • @Whomastadon:

I, myself, would rather know my house was being robbed instantly rather than relying on any security company.

My point was that your entire alarm system relies on you hearing an SMS come in, being able to check it immediately every single time, and your home internet and cameras being 100% reliable.

If you happen to be on a plane, in an underground car park with no reception, watching a movie, in a meeting, have a flat phone battery, driving your car, or out in a noisy shopping centre, you will/might completely miss the notification and have no idea your house is being happily ransacked. Meanwhile, just as you say, all your neighbours will be ignoring the alarm siren.

I self-monitor my own alarm system via SMS and home CCTV just like you - I just know its limitations and realize that for some people, a monitored alarm system would definitely be better. I can't imagine trying to tell my technophobe bosses to make sure they always carry their phones everywhere they go, with the volume turned up, check every single sms they receive immediately, and learn how to view previously-recorded footage on their home cctv cameras via their phone. Oh and to call their electricity company to buy a special lock for their switchboard, and make sure they don't lose the key. Or buy a UPS for their home router ("What is a router?") and individual cameras, or run PoE cameras hooked up to the UPS.

  • $6.60 per week for landline monitoring

does it work with Voip ive only on naked.
Any discount then for GPRS 12months instead of free landline only?

    • Hi Clearwater, unfortunately the $6.60 monitoring only applies to active PSTN phone lines that are in place and so wouldn't apply to VOIP or 'Naked' setups. We would recommend instead the GPRS monitoring option. The upfront price would remain $599 but the monitoring component would increase to $9.75 per week for 52 weeks for a total minimum cost over the time period of $1106. It is not a bad way to go as there are other benefits of GPRS monitoring like avoiding line rental fees and being NBN ready.
