Similar to Bunnings deal; Differences I can see include:

  • 24V versus 18V
  • 22 torque settings versus 19
  • This one has a handle
  • 45 minutes quick charge versus 60 minutes

Love bunnings and masters with similar deals show up one after another. Keep it coming.

You'll probably find this was the inspiration for the Bunnings deal, not the other way around.

  • can this use SDS rotary bits?

    • It looks very unlikely, normally it would say so in the model or description.

    • There are (to my knowledge) two main types of chuck, 13mm and SDS, this is 13mm, and so the short answer is no.

The longer answer is that you probably don't need or want sds functionality as the bits are more expensive, it's not as necessary for small holes, for big holes you probably don't want a cordless drill because the loads higher and this would decrease battery life per charge and overall lifetime. If you are spending 50 bucks on a drill you don't want to spend 15 bucks on a single bit.

On a side note, I am wondering how useful this is, if you aren't a pro it's not every day you need to drill into masonry, and this is probably bigger and heavier than you want for simply driving screws. I think the casual user is better off with a $15 standard hammer drill, and and then spend more on on a standard Li on drill and driver

      • I agree with Jackson it's a pain to use this as an everyday drill driver. Get a smaller 10.8V or 12V tool for driving screws. The ergonomics and design is too long and bulky. Use this as a masonry drill but I have no idea how well it works. Btw is this an incarnation of ex GMC ?

The chuck looks like a standard drill bit chuck, so it will hold sds drill bits if you chuck it at the smooth part of the shank. Not ideal but possible.

This is a better deal than the Bunnings being 24V

looks like they have stock whereas Bunnings doesn't (for me at least)

  • No wonder Masters is going broke, the delivery for this to Bondi Junction (30 minutes from the nearest store) is $76.

      Going belly up you mean?

    • +1

How much is delivery when you order online from Bunning?

  • +1

My click and collect order hopefully ensures one is allocated to me. Beats going out there to potentially find all are gone.

    • From my previous experience their stock isn't live (or accurate) and allocation is only when they get around to processing your order.

      • Got "Ready for Collection" email yesterday (Sunday) 9am.

        I had ordered 5pm Saturday.

Collected it around noon today (Monday).

Cardboard box it came in was very worn and torn. Definitely not the one you would pick off the shelf. However contents were fine. The security seal on the bags zipper was still in place so no bits could be missing. Has both a hammer drill setting and settings for ordinary drilling and screw driving OK.

  • Cant find it so hope somebody knows. Can you use this as normal drill as well? With my old one there was a switch for the hammer function

    • +1

Reading the 3rd customer review on the Masters site convinced me it was switchable between hammer and normal drill/drive. However I could not see the switch in the photo or read it as a function in the specs.

      3rd review says:
"This is a quality drill by DIY standards. 24v is a really bonus as normally you will find 18v drills for DIY. At $89 this is a real deal. 22 clutch settings for driving, two speed gear, drill and a hammer mode are really good options.
I have built a workbench using drill and drive modes. Used hammer mode to drill few holes into concrete and mortar 50mm deep. No problem at all. Just buy a good quality drill and drive bits probably Irwin or Bosch.
Very fast charge. Two batteries. I was unable to find any product on market or internet to match this.
909 days warranty seems pretty good. I hope it will last longer than that."

Yep, the symbols on the chuck show it can be used as a 'normal' drill

$85 to deliver to Northern Beaches… meh

I will end up using it for 5 minutes then never again. If anyone sees a good cordless screwdriver then I will definitely be interested.

thanks OP, got one online, as I went today to bunnings to find out that they had none of the ozito deal left.

  • Any idea about the warranty on this one? I bought the one from Bunnings today but haven't opened it yet.

    • +1

      909 days.

  • +1

This drill is heavier than bunnings
    Full spec here http://909.com/index.php?page=shop.product_details&flypage=y…

  • IMO the ozito is better made, this are a little rough in comparison. I am buying the ozito instead, if I can find the red.

    • The Ozito has 3 year warranty.

The guy @ Bunnings claims that the warranty also covers the battery. But due to experience on other items that claim holistic warranty, I think battery will be less.

Need to read the fine print as I haven't opened it yet.

      Regards

      • fine print says 3years for the unit and 1year for the battery

        • Thanks.

          Thought so :-)

  • It seems they have different pricing for different stores. I had to enter my postcode for the Mornington VIC store and it showed $60 and nil stock, no delivery.
    edit
OK its $54 with the extra 10% :)

  • Pssttttt…… Just got a call from my local Masters saying that they have checked all stores and there is no stock of the item as it is a "clearance" line, so they will cancel the order and refund the monies… I guess a lot of folks are gonna get this call today…. :P

To be fair, it was a good deal if the order was fulfilled.

This is the second time Masters has done a "Dick Smith" to me… :P

    • South Dandenong has stocks if you want to drop round there.

      • I'm in Sydney, Melb is just a tad bit of a drive.. Checked that Wagga Wagga, NSW has stock, but Masters don't move stock internally to fulfil customer orders… tough luck i guess..

  • The red ozito looks sexier

    • Agree but the extra handle on this really helps if you need to drill a few more holes on concrete wall for a small to mid size project.

  • I bought this drill at $89 and its awesome. Used it for putting up gates, lights, hanging a projector screen and some other little bits around the house, drilling into both steel and hard wood and this thing was great. One charge lasted a long time and the drill was plenty powerful for what I wanted. The charge in the batteries also lasts when not in use.

I have a similar Ozito drill and it feels cheap in comparison, battery loses its charge even when not in use, it doesnt last very long when it is in use and its nowhere near as powerful. Does a fine job for putting screws into soft wood if you leave a battery on charge, but that's about it.

  • Thanks.
