I was wondering how you could drink coffee in the State Library when they don't allow any food or drink (except for water bottles)
@jv: I don't know why they are being so hard on you, easy enough mistake to make if you've never heard of the City Library. If someone told me "meet me at the city library" I probably would have shown up at the State Library because I had never heard about the City Library until now either and the State Library is such a prominent landmark located in the city.

Melbourne Victoria 3000City Library is located in the CAE building near the corner of Degraves Street and Flinders Lane, between Swanston and Elizabeth Streets.
I too had no idea there was another library in the CBD of Melbourne.
The city library is the cooler more modern brother to the state library. Its a borrowing library - you can borrow books totally foc and there are made up of a number of libraries throughout Melbourne.
+1 for Dukes coffee. Pretty good coffee.
