A bit more than $50 Aud when you manually select Amazon Prime as the seller. I bought this last week as the cheap one I got from deal extreme just wasn't hot enough to use outdoors. All I can say is I can solder within 15 seconds. Just don't use it indoors as it releases a hell of a lot of carbon monoxide and I gassed myself the 1st time I used it.

  • Looks like a good price for a decent butane tool.
It doesn't seem to come with any, but the extra attachments really make these useful. eg. hot knife, blower, flame, different sized tips.

I've been really happy with this dremel which comes with heaps of accessories. I've had it over twelve months and used it a lot and have no complaints.

I also have this dremel and very happy with it. Bought at Masters when on sale for approx. $70 (%10 off I think). Came with a bunch of attachments. Never had any issues heat shrinking or soldering. Yet to use the other attachments.

  • Great price for a great iron. This exact iron sells at Jaycar for $99.95: http://www.jaycar.com.au/Tools-%26-Soldering/Soldering/Irons… so this is a good deal.

I have the next model up but it's basically the same. It's a great iron for whenever you can't use a corded iron or need super-high heat but just be careful because the heater exhaust blasts out the side and when cranked I've accidentally burnt things around the job. They're great for soldering thick high current wiring in cars but again you have to be careful of what's in the immediate vicinity plus of course keep it away from your battery… unless you want an explosion of course.

I have this one from Jaycar and paid full price

Extremely useful for car and home electronics etc. and has lasted me for years

Around $50 AUD is a good buy

  • I've had a portasol iron with regular use for over 20 years i'm still using the original attachments. Well made very happy.

element14 have a portasol oryx for $36.88 AUD. Free shipping when total over $45. Could buy some solder. Or one of the other many EOFY sale items to get it there. Not the same model as OP's but a cheaper variant. always good to have options. link. http://au.element14.com/portasol/portasol/soldering-iron-400…

    • I still have two of those I got when working for Telstra, they're 20+ years old and still going strong.

  • Is the heat on these adjustable? I want to use it to repair motherboards and electronics, will the one in op, dermal and portasol in comments all be good for it?

    • +1

Yes, the gas flow is adjustable therefore adjusting heat however for board level work I personally think they're far too uncontrollable. Get yourself a cheap soldering station (as low as $20 when HobbyKing has a sale) but still get one of these as they're excellent for the bigger & hotter work.
