Just a 'Heads up' that I came across the price of approx $166.78 for economy one way flights Kul to Syd. Not every day, but many dates in May, June, and August 2015. This price does not seem to show up if you search for a 'return booking' originating in Sydney IE Sydney to Kuala Lumpur and back. You need to add $ for booking fee, seat selection, baggage, and food. Note the actual currency is in MYR and so you may lose a dollar or 2 on credit card exchange rate fees etc.
Air Asia Kuala Lumpur to Sydney $167 One Way. May, June, August 2015

You can change currency to AUD to pay. Sure air asia takes a small cut, but probably better than what your cr card provider will take.
Best method is to pay in MYR with 28 degrees or similar foreign fee free card.Definitely a good price but I don't see these fare prices anywhere. Do you have any examples?
I just now searched on June. 6 - 16th June and 23 - 30 June inclusive are at that price! One way Kul - Syd. Lots for Aug and I think maybe some in July. Best to do the monthly view after you search on a date and get the result
Found some:
- June 8-30
- July 2
- July 26-31
- August 7-26
- August 28-31
I was looking at peak period (mid-July) that's why I couldn't find any. Damn.
In other news, it looks like AirAsia is going back to having flights twice daily for KUL-SYD as of Dec 1.
I have no idea why this only has 8 positive. This is actually an incredible price.. I'm going to assume it's because it's originating there as opposed to here, but like you correctly mentioned, this is a really good way to get the fare cheaper, just by buying 2x one-ways which is exactly what I always do.
And instead of using monthly view (which is good), I used this.
AH! 2 FLIGHTS per day. That IS good to know. Less crowded flights and it will increase my chances of upgrades through Optiontown, as well as more of a likelihood of 'promo sales'.
I always book my outwards and return flights separately, because, as well as usually being a bit cheaper, it gives more flexibility if I want to change an outwards or return date, then I don't have to lose the whole fare. (Note they are pretty good at refunding the taxes of any unused flight tickets).
I often fly to Bangkok with AirAsia, and it is amazing the savings that can be made by booking the 4 flights individually.
Re: 'AirAsia plus' link: that's a new one on me! ThanksOn checking AirASIA, it looks like their twice daily flights Kul - Syd - Kul, are only in December and January. (Maybe to service the Xmas holidays peak)
My bad…was looking in the wrong direction
