Very cheap, especially considering my workplace bought a 5Tb external Seagate for $259 from JB Hifi this week
I was able to price match at my local office works (Browns Plains, QLD) last time this deal was on, picked up local stock for $173 :)

My old Office Works wouldn't even match competitors if they were in Sydney (i lived 50km north of Sydney at the time) stating they weren't direct competition to them and that it would cost me additional money to get it from Sydney.

I'm a little tempted to get 2 of these for my NAS (using 4TB drives) and just let them recognise at 4TB. It's cheaper than a 4TB drive and possibly more reliable (Seagate has gotten better and better since moving away from their 3TB disaster)

Shingled drives place tracks so close that writing to one track will corrupt the next; no problem, the drive can fix that by rewriting the next track too, and the next… and the next. If you are lucky the firmware can bunch up writes so this doesn't cause a slow down, but you won't always be lucky. Your write performance may suffer if you put this in a NAS.
What is the cheapest and largest Seagate external drive you can get that is only powered by the USB 3.0 cable?

But it's not cheap, around the $450-500 mark. There is an internal "Archive" drive getting around between $320-350 but it's more for backups and well, archives (it's slow!) I'd say they jammed a much faster drive in the external case.

I just re-read his question, I obviously missed the "only powered by the USB 3.0 cable" the first time.
I guess the short answer is 2.0TB but I'm not 100% on that.

I only asked because my old Seagate external drive from years ago also came with a few of those interchangeable power plug clip-in adapters but I wasn't sure if they still did that (ie Seagate trying to save money) or if they did if the US versions would have the extra plugs
