  • Might want to change it to @ Aldi

  • It is not sold by Bauhn, but by Aldi, on the 23rd of May only. I think it's a one-day sale.

drrr…yes I know Aldi and Bauhn are the same

  • I'm considering using this as a PC monitor. But would like it to be HDMI 2.0.

    • +3

I reckon it isn't going to be hdmi 2.0 supported not at that price.

  • Don't think it be hdcp 2.0 - no support of 60hz refresh rate - making picture jittery…1st gen panels

  • +1

I guess 30Hz, but is it even worth it for non gaming?
    Would the picture be decent?

  • Im in the market for a 4k TV too.Dunno if i should get it or not.I really hope its built to last me a long time
I found reviews of the 55" 4k model

    • Not relevant - Aldi tvs have different manufacturers. The brand is just put on them.

  • Lifehacker and Whirpool link is for the previous 4k 55"from Aldi

  • Does anyone want to comment on whether you can hook a tv like this up as monitor to a typical Dell laptop and get the 4k resolution?
In theory, integrated HD4400 graphics are 4k capable. But would a normal HDMI cable support it?

    • Need HDMI 2.0 for 4K support afaik, displayport 1.2 or 1.3 can do it (again, afaik).

      • Thanks, will have to check if my laptop supports it. I think probably not….

Hdmi 1.4 cable will do 60MHz 4k, there is no HDMI v2.0 cable

        • @leetec:

Hdmi 1.4 cable will do 60MHz 4k, there is no HDMI v2.0 cable

You say 60MHz here (presumably you mean Hz, not MHz) and below you say 30Mhz (Hz?). So, which is it?

I've just had a quick google/read and yes, it does seem that 1.4 can do 4K but what I read said it was limited to 24p. I don't know if this is correct or not however, haven't bothered reading any more yet.

        • @foobar: sorry I mean FPS, not mhz. HDMI v1.4 is different thing of HDMI v1.4 CABLE, the v1.4 cable work fine with HDMI v2.0. It's not seem to working, tech always yes or no.

      • Hdmi 1.4 will do 4k@30mhz

        • MHz?

  • I posted this two days ago, emailed Bauhn yesterday asking when they'd be putting it up on their site as specs would be nice and now it's there we're all still none the wiser.

yeah i wouldnt spend $499 on this given that its 30hz at UHD (99% sure of this) and looking thru the manual, the interface and connections look the same as my $225 40" DSE FHD crap panel

      for $225 I can forgive a lot… for $499? nah

      • Have had a look through the manual now as well, not terribly inspiring stuff at all. I was considering getting one and giving it a go but will pass and wait a bit longer. Shame, the price is good for a 4K but that's about it.

I recently rented the 50" Bauhn as I needed an urgent replacement while I sourced a decent new TV.

Cheap and nasty is how I would describe these panels.

If you're one of those people who can't see the difference between refresh rates, think less is more when it comes to picture adjustment options, and don't value quality picture then its probably not too bad of a purchase.

At least you have 60 days to try it out, but imo don't waste your time and get a proper TV if you want to enjoy your viewing.

  • Is 4K a gimmick? Like 3D?

    • Depends how far you sit from the screen and how much 4k content you have access to.

      (Yes)

Soniq 42" 1080p refurbs are $159 when they are in stock.

    • I think it's a much better and useful feature than the 3D one…as long as you make use of it
I don't use the 3D thing at all but some people (not many) enjoy it very much
4K will be very useful for larger screen (or some are using as monitor)
But at this stage very limited videos/players (if any?) are available at this 4k so little use of me.

      • +1

Thanks, so I take it that 4K monitor is good, but not worth it for TV just yet…

    • In short - yes, at least on a 42" panel.

    • Might be useful when we get the NBN and can stream 4k content cheaply. So sometime in 2060 ;-)

  • 4K gaming is great but as a TV kind of useless I think (heck, we cant even get FHD as standard yet). I would jump on this if it has DP in for 4K @ 60hZ does anyone know?

Same thing applies to ALL 4K TV… really show me the programing besides Demos made by TV producers of any sort that supports…
one will need a 400 Dollar 3GB graphics ram video card to push games to 60FPS at the 4K res level…

Seriously… the only good application is to view photos from 20mega pixel phone cameras and pro cameras!

  • extra $40 ($33.73 delivery) for a smart kogan?

  • I bought the 55in 4K one when it went on sale recently and returned it not long after. Like another reviewer said, its cheap and nasty. The tv takes forever to start up, remote control is clunky and takes forever to action a command, the smart tv part feels like its a 7 year old interface and miles behind a new Samsung tv for example. Media center also fails to play many formats that a Samsung tv would easily play.

In short a horrible, horrible tv. My last tv was a Series 6 Samsung and even though its 2 years old its miles better than the Bauhn.

Using this as a monitor is unlikely to be a good experience. It is likely it has a reduced colour space like 4:2:0. Look up what this means.

As for only useful for viewing photos, well that's simply not true. Many uses for a large UHD PC monitor.

    • my 4K LG is not 4:4:4 and its still beautiful sexy for gaming :D but not so great for web browsing , office tasks.

  • Look up HDCP 2.2. I Doubt this supports it.
