Asus ROG G751JT 17.3" Gaming Laptop & $50 Bonus Voucher - $2306 + Shipping @ Shopping Express

481

This is a pretty nice 17" gaming laptop. I have been looking to buy one for some time.
It has very good cooling system which is important in a gaming laptop…

It's $3199 at Kogan…
Shopping Express is a very good retailer, unlike Kogan :)

To get the $2306 price you are combining Shopping Express' 20% off these laptops at checkout with the NEW10OFF $10 discount code…

This price after 20% off of $2316 is decent - cheapest on Staticice is $2311.99 - but that doesn't include a $50 voucher for use in the first 3 weeks of June…

NOTE THE 20% discount doesn't show on the product page, you have to add it to your cart and then goto your cart to see the discounted price.

Remember to also use NEW10OFF for a further $10 off making the price $2306 plus shipping..

Shipping to Sydney metro is a very reasonable $11.20.

I think this deal ends close of business 18 May 2015 (SE Rep please clarify).

Specs:
Model G751JT-T7029H
17.3" FHD screen
Intel Core i7-4710HQ CPU
16GB RAM
1TB hard disk + 256GB SSD
Blu-Ray Writer
NVIDIA GeForce GTX970M GPU
4x USB 3.0 ports
Windows 8.1
1 Year warranty includes protection against accidental damage

Note: $50 Voucher is a storewide promotion.
Spend > $300: Get $50 Voucher to be used between 1 - 21 June

Not sure if I am going to pull the trigger on it but very close. If the price was shaved slightly or they threw in say the ASUS G series backpack, I'd be there…

  • That's a fair price, but it's got a lot of competition at that price either with a discounted Alienware or MSI. Metabox are even cheaper, but I'm not too keen on the 'let's slap our brand on this' type of business.

    • Agreed. Have a look at the MSI GT70 range as well. Similar price.
      Alienware is overpriced.

      • +2

Well beauty is in the eye of the beholder but from everything i have seen and read, the MSI is not as good as this in almost every way.

If you love one million keyboard light combinations MSI is great.

If you want good cooling and performance and build quality, buy ASUS…

        • Actually, I had been tossing up between the three myself. I found it annoying that you can't get the ASUS G771 model here in Australia. Alienware aren't exactly cheap, but their products are excellent, and as the 17" model ended up being cheaper than this ASUS G751 model (if you know what you're doing), I ended up going with that.

        • +2

Yes Asus is better cooling and quality.
MSi is a bit better value IMO

      • Not as expensive as it once was. Asus isn't cheap either.

      • Have you tried Dell Factory Outlet? You can get good bargain for 'As New' products sold there… But you have to keep on checking the website. They also give you Aussie tax invoice for tax purposes.

        • Agree! i got a
          (same processor) i7-4710hq
          1TB 5400RPM
          8GB DDR3L at 1600MHz (2 x 4G)
          NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 980M with 4GB GDDR5
          15.6 inch UHD (3840 x 2160) IPS-Panel TrueLife 350-nits Display with Touch Technology

          for 1799!
          (i bought a cheap ssd too) :)

        • @halfaznpersuasion:
Which model? Is it a Latitude, Inspiron, XPS, Vostro or Alienware?

        • +1

          @Joe888:

          alienware 15 :)

    • I have a metabox and I think it's great. Only thing that lets it down is the trackpad which could be a touch better.

However for half the price I can't really complain.

  • Bloody good price. Alienware ones are about $700 more. Haven't seen anything else with a comparible GPU for better price.

    • +1

If 15.6 inch is your thing an Alienware 15 with gtx970m, SSD, 16gb ram, i7 can be had for $1999 (last time they had a 20% off sale). I bought one!

      • I kinda need one soon. Expecting a sale?

        • Maybe. You could always jump on the online chat or call them and get a discount. Or keep an eye on the outlet for "AS NEW" ones.

        • @Dominic: Mate, youre a bloody legend. I would shout you a drink if I could right now!!

          ^5 (high five)

    • +1

Metabox. For a brand name, MSI and Gigbyte are not far off.

  • -2

I would investigate the extension of warranty. One year is standard but if your going to use this thing on a daily basis it wouldn't hurt to invest in the ASUS 1 Year Global Extended Warranty for ASUS Notebook . I think it goes for about 80-90 but i guess its just piece of mind.

    • -2

Is there any reseller for discounted Asus warranty extension?

    • +12

Don't want one? Good for you, don't spam useless opinions. Otherwise there a plenty of reasons to get one. E.g. You don't have a stable living arrangement, you don't want to buy two seperate machines for the same job, you can get gst off laptops if traveling, you work as a film editor too and like something with a bit more power that is more portable, and the list goes on. Do you spam this opinion on any item you don't deem worthy? Don't get an ebook, just get a tablet!

        • +5

You're obviously a few years behind.

      • +1

More like can't afford one lel …

    • +5

Using your desktop on the bus is less than ideal

    • I travel a lot, so having a desktop is less than ideal. Having a gaming laptop means I can take it with me anywhere I go. That's the selling point.

    • +2

Well the thing about meta box is that their cooling is not as good and their design are rather ugly.

    • +6

Metabox's default prices do not include, ANY storage, only 4GB of RAM etc. Not to mention your link is to their 15.6" model. You need to compare apples with apples.

Their 970M 17" model with roughly equivalent specs costs $2876 according to their site.

      • +3

Yep good points @johnno07 - but lets not lets facts get in the way of a good story from @pal

        • Turns out lappy fanbois are almost as silly as iTards and Assdroids :D

        • @Diji1:

You must be smart then mate… Tell us what do you think..

        • +6

          @hippies: Boobies.

    • -2

Some people are addicted to "portability" but the laptop are always on the desk or move maximum 5 meter away from that desk which is the bed.

    • +8

You can also buy alot krispy kream with that money, but this deal is for laptop, it doesnt say desktop or doughnut ……..

    • +2

Because you're paying for portability over raw power. Pretty simple, dude.

    • Last time I checked you can't plug your desktop in and use it on the plane, train or ferry….

      • Or if you are on off grid solar power etc, many reasons for needing portability and low power consumption

      • A gaming laptop like this wouldn't have much juice to run properly anyways. Running on battery either throttles the GPU and/or runs the battery dry in about an hour+.
The benefit is just mostly having the power wherever you can find a power outlet. That or running computational fluid analysis on the fly.

Source: I own a similar gaming laptop.

        • I'd expect about 90 minutes of Civ 4 on the battery.

90 minutes gets you a fair way on the train…

        • @GreatWhiteHunter:

To be fair. The weight of the G751 alone would deter most users from using this as a travel pc.

        • @GreatWhiteHunter:
But if youre playing MOBA's or anything, thats only enough for one game because you never know how long those games last, and you dont want it to die on you.

    • How else you simulate your car's maximum flip possible of jumping from a bridge?
You don't want to wreck your car while doing so, right?

    • +2

970m is a respectable GPU for 1080 gaming.

      • plus should be eligible for free Witcher 3 (by redemption)

    • Maybe some people want the hardcore desktop and portable gaming.

If you can only afford one then of course the desktop is a better option for gaming.

  • Did anyone decide on purchasing the laptop?

    • You have until 18 May 2015 to decide.

I think I will buy one, but I want to clarify if you get the free Witcher 3 game first…

Includes 16gb ram, roughly equivalent SSD.

Add a mechanical drive (gross) and a copy of Win 8 (lol) and you're still cheaper than this deal. Fanboyism in this thread is a bit out of control.

    • +5

      Erm ok

Metabox base price is $1939 so there is a difference of $367 in the base costs.

Metabox 1tb hard drive is $155
You dont get an optical drive in the Metabox at all and you can't fit an internal one.
External blu ray writer is $144
You do get 2 years warranty with the Metabox rather than 1 with the Asus
Windows 8.1 OEM licence normally around $100 - $135 from Metabox
IPS screen for the Metabox is an additional $225
DHL delivery for Metabox is $60

      So $155 + $144 + $135 + $225 + $60 = $719
Deduct $11.20 for delivery from SE…

So your Metabox with similar specs and a 2 year warranty costs $2658
It doesn't come with a $50 discount voucher for use 1-21 June either…

Doesn't look like the Metabox configured similarly is nearly as cheap as the Asus??

ASUS 1 year warranty extension doesn't cost anywhere near $300.. It's $69 or $99 depending on whether you want local or international coverage…

Anyway if you love the Metabox, and are a Metabox fanboi, great!

I'd prefer the cooling system and design/appearance of the ASUS even if the Metabox was cheaper, which it isn't…

      • -4

        That's inaccurate.

Affordablelaptops sell the Metabox P670SE for $2068. http://www.affordablelaptops.com.au/contents/en-us/p2971.htm…

The G751 price is $2317.20. Price isn't everything however when it comes to these types of products, and people should make up their own minds about whether they want to focus purely on specs, or other elements, such as design, brand etc.

        • +3

Dude the P670SE from affordable laptop does not include IPS Screen, No 1TB hardrive and no optical drive.

I mean you you dont care about these spec and you want to get a metabox then go for that.

Just stop bring up metabox prices when the two laptop are not of equivalent specs.

        • +1

I got the prices from the web site the guy linked to. I am not sure how that makes it inaccurate?
If anything, it is 100% totally accurate…

Feel free to post the costs of a similar build from affordablelaptops.

Anyway in the end there is a lot of hot air over Metabox vs ASUS vs Alienware vs MSI

As I said previously, beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

I like Asian and Latina girls, young slim ones.

Some other guys like fat Aussie girls - some like Thai ladyboys - some like MILFs.

Good for them, whatever floats your boat!

I prefer the ASUS and the Alienware - I wouldn't buy the MSI or Metabox unless for similar specs they were a minimum of $300 cheaper…

        • @highdealer:

          Hmmm…I guess not.

        • @GreatWhiteHunter:

I actually agree with your assessment of the brands, as I was the same boat in my decision. However, I do have to say that having used both, the Alienware's build quality is better than the Asus' (although the Asus is good in its own right). However, I am not a fan of Asus' style of keyboard (Steelseries on MSI is better imo, and Alienware even still), and I'm also not pleased with their soft product either. I also prefer the G771, stylistically, to the G751.

Alienware was cheaper for me, but it didn't have a DVD/Blu Ray drive (not a big deal for me personally). I'm also a sucker for the backlights. However, the new editions makes the GPU un-upgradable :(. So I would've actually jumped on this Asus deal, but the pricing difference swayed my decision.

      • I'm typing to you on the G750, bulky device with fantastic cooling.

  • Warranty extension prices for the ASUS can be found here

    http://shop.asus.com/store/asusau/en_AU/list/ThemeID.3402310…

    extra year international = $99

    Few words of warning…

I have Asus G73S series, grandad to this one. The laptop is still working but was twice repaired since purchased, first time under the warranty (took six weeks), second time few months out of warranty at a cost of ~$220. For an expensive, mean, rugged looking performance laptop, to me, it seems that it has a glass chin, build quality was nothing to write home about. And these laptops are heavy, like 5kg with large brick style adapter, they need large backpack. Battery life… what battery life? :-) Performance wise it was a decent machine, still good enough for a lot of games. Given my laptop is two generations behind this one and ASUS might have ironed all the kinks and problems that were plaguing prior generation I won't be buying another one from ASUS, I'm at the moment looking at MSI GS60 series which is smaller but also about half the weight of this ASUS.

So if you really need something this expensive and this big at least buy extra year of extended warranty, I wish I did it when I bought mine.

  • Cheaper price @ $1899 but comes from the US and with DVD burner instead of bluray writer (+$136.40 4-6 days delivery to Australia):

    http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1083622-REG/asus_g751j… l

    • +2

      Hmm

      $1899 USD before delivery costs.

On current exchange rates, that is nearly $2400 AUD before delivery…

      • Oops, my bad. I didn't even think that it was in USD! I blame it on sleep deprivation. Feel free to neg or ignore my comment above :P.

        • Keep in mind you need to add 10% GST to anything you buy that cost more than $1000 (might be even less now that they change the threshold recently).

  • Looking at the US Link above, it strikes me that in theory you should be eligible for a free game (The Witcher 3) from Nvidia with the purchase of this laptop.

However SE doesn't mention this - can the SE rep please clarify?

Also this deal ends 18 May 2015, so you have some time to decide.

    • Asus ROG laptops are not included in Witcher 3 promotion in Australia. Only the graphics card qualify.

      cheers
      SE

      • thanks SE for clarifying this. It is a little disappointing but not your fault, it's Nvidia's…

Looks like Witcher 3 is going to be gettable at around $20 AUD anyway based on other recent posts so loss isn't that great…

  • does this come with the backpack and mouse as per previous models?

  • Hey guys, may not help at all, but I've used the G75V for the past 2 years and its been an absolute beast. In saying that, I do not game (aside from Civilization of course. Hundreds of hours of Civilization), but I have always used a gaming laptop for business, life, everything, and if you want something that looks moderately professional (this ruled out the MSIs for me at the time) and runs everything instantly with no down-time, this has probably been my favourite gaming laptop I've used, for non-gaming purposes, over my time.

Probably also the heaviest too, so factor that in. And the jet engine on the back makes it not fit into most cases or backpacks designed for 17 inch laptops. But build quality is rock solid. This new version may be a touch lighter.

    • +1

I'm currently using a G75VW, you are right, other than the bulkiness they are awesome. Most bags won't do, it fits an Averki Titan, but it's a squeze. The keyboards on ROG laptops are another strong point, they are the best non-mechanical keyboards I've ever used. Gaming wise, the two year old model I'm using can comfortably handle modern games, abet not at full resolution. This new model should be a lot more capable… If only I had a few thousand sitting spare (>,<)

  • So much hate when one says gaming on laptop isn't ideal. I'm not being a douchebag here but gaming experience on desktop is so much better isn't it? I have friends who had gaming laptop before and all complaint that it either gets too hot or makes weird noises after a year or two.

Not sure why someone would say "can't afford one?", it's totally irrelevant.

Not hating on gaming laptops, in fact this build is quite impressive.

  • 4.8kg? Wow.

    If anyone's after a laptop that's actually portable- go for a 15.6" P650SE. Same specs, only 2.5kg's & much cheaper…

    • Erm try actually opening a Shopping Express account first before using it.

Only other explanation is that the code has now expired?

      • Coupon Code is definitely working - you need to either login or register an account before you can use it. Limit to 1 per custoemr.

  • I'm prepared to pay this amount 10 years ago for a laptop and it was not even highend. I'm sort of glad i'm all over gaming now.

  • After reading the Reviews about this Computer on Amazon, it appears that the battery is not replaceable by the user! Deal breaker for me as I like to keep a spare battery handy when travelling.

  • Can't you build a gaming pc for roughly the cost of a ps4 for very similar graphics? How come this laptop is so expensive?

    • Laptop does not equal desktop.

  • -2

Cheaper to buy a portable laptop and a gaming desktop

    • Cheaper to buy an IPAD and a BBQ chicken too, but not sure of the relevance?

      • Ipad can't play pc games

    • You are hilarious, I like you :)

  • Hello guys,
I'm thinking about getting this but I'm not a gamer, by any stretch of the imagination. I want to put some work related software (Visual Studio Ultimate and SharePoint) on it, thinking being the higher specs on this beast will lend themselves to faster and better performance, compared to a more conventional lappy. Can anyone please advise if I'm right in assuming so or am I better off getting a high end business laptop?
I intend to use it to watch Blu-Ray movies too, which was another reason I was considering this (and it does look quite sexy too! :-)).
    Cheers!

    • If you are not into gaming, look hard at the Dell 17" Precision series.

Very expensive base cost but you can do better on EBAY or by speaking to Dell sales support.

They are designed for business use in rough terrain.

I have owned 2 and they are the best 2 laptops i have ever owned.

Only complaint is their graphics cards are not aimed towards gaming…

      • Thank you, GWH.
I had a look at the Precision series, boy aren't they expensive!! I just noticed Alienware in on 15% discount currently so that's something to consider too. Will have a chat to Dell in the morning and decide.
        Cheers mate.
