That's sick. Considering their normally very competitive prices, I'm not sure if I should upvote or wait until I've had first pick. Example: global ikasu $322 - 20% = $257.

Edit: good time to buy nespresso machine too. The citiz is $302 - 20% - $50 cashback = $192.

    Edit: global fluted cooks knife 20cm for $67 -20% = $53.

    • +$11 shipping…

    • Hey,

Thinking about buying the Global Ikasu. I like the look of the block better than Synergy. Whats the main difference between the 2 blocks (Synergy and Ikasu). Thanks

      • The Ikasu wasn't so stable, I only bought the Ikasu to throw away the holder and put the knives on a Global wall magnet. The Synergy looks to be a better, more solid stand. Depends how much room you have for a knife block too.

  • $300 for an ice buckets :/

  • Just what I was looking for. Was wanting a new sandwich press and here I got one. Cheers.

  • +2

    NO Kitchenaid mixers. Grrrrr.

    • +2

Discounts on those are very hard to come by unfortunately. On the plus side, buying one for the missus' birthday did make her very happy.

      • +1

Whatever you do don't buy their blender though. Try making a smoothie with one, and you end up with a chunkie. Worst design ever… I gave it away to someone I hated.

I'm also not that impressed with the mixer with relation to bread kneading. I wish I could get a third part hook that maybe did a better job. Their one really doesn't work well for kneading. Other than bread kneading though it is pretty good.

        • +3

Get an old school Kenwood, they're great! Noisy but great

    • +5

just checked that these are 199-250 USD on AmazonUS but here they sell for 799-1299 AUD. Bloody hell

      • +2

You need to get an inverter as well if you get one from the US. They're around $80 for a decent one IIRC.

Edit: But that's still cheaper than AU by a lot.

      • +2

In fairness, while Kitchenaid do make models deliberately difficult to compare, I believe the US$300 model has a nylon gearbox, while the Australian model still uses the metal gearing, which should result in a considerably longer product life. Should get a considerably longer life out of the motor as a result.

        • Are you sure about this? I was researching them before, and never found this info. There were at the time two types - one more "industrial", where the bowl is lifted to the beaters - and one more "domestic" where the entire mixer head tilts. In the USA it seems to be the first type that mostly comes up in searches, and here it's the second. Are you sure that's not why there seems to be a difference in the gear material?

    • +5

Kitchenaid mixers seem to have mysteriously vanished from the eBay store whereas previously they were there. Bit of a coincidence. I guess they didn't want to be selling them at 20% off. So it's really 20% off what Peter's of Kensington want to be at 20% off because not all of their products that are currently on their main web site are on this 20% off eBay sale.

    • +1

The refurbs from USA on eBay are much better value (even with the current exchange rate).

Just make sure you get a transformer too.

      • This. Its what we bought, it has run flawlessly since we got it

    • Thinking of settling on the Kenwood Chef Sense for ~$475 with some mothers day promotion as well that Kenwood has running.

CHOICE has it as #1 in their recommended buys as well.

    • I'm going to get one from Amazon, even with the 240v to 120v converter, I still save a bundle.

  • -1

Shipping is $11 to Melbourne, that is kind of offsetting the saving

    No Borner V5 :(

    • +1

not really, it depends what you buy! For example NEW Henckels Four Star 8 Piece Knife Block Set C
AU $257.00-20%+shipping is a terrific deal IMHO
      http://m.ebay.com.au/itm/251908947482

      • +1

Yeah, I agree. Quite many worthy bargains there.

      • +1

really good price for henckels. beats global if you have big hands =D

        • Henckels mainly trades on their good name these days. Still better steel than Chinese knifes, but a big step down on their quality from 10+ years ago.

also, 20cm for a Chef's knife (in this deal) is tiny. 10inches should really be the minimum (even for small handed females). 12inches is really where it's at. Yes, i'm still talking about knifes.

        • @Son ofa Zombie: I believe there is 2 types of Henckels. The more expensive Henckels are made in Germany, where as the cheap range of Henckels are made in China.

If you get the german ones they are still high quality, where as the chinese ones aren't anywhere near as good.

    • Magimix starting price also very very good..another 20% great buying.

  • Bialetti time!!!!!

    Thanks OP

  • 3 days ago I spent $700 in there :(
Thanks OP, we love Peter's :)

Global Synergy Knife Block Set 7pce is $268.60 Delivered!

    • Im thinking of pulling the trigger - Ive never bought a knife set before - can anyone give their opinion? Cheers!

      • +5

You only end up using 2-3 knives max…

      • +14

You will have a set of implements that can cut things. If you live your life in a conventional way and have a decent moral compass, nobody should die as a result of your decision to buy a knife set.

      • Unless you're very articulate with knives and/or have a wide variety of dishes to prepare for, chances are you'll use the paring knife, chef knife and maybe the bread knife. The other 2-3 knives in the set will most likely go unused.
Buying them individually may save you money, plus the knife block.

      • Global are a good brand, but you don't need all those knives.

You only need a big one (chef's knife), a little one (petty knife), and a serrated one (bread knife).

You might find better value with the Tojiro DP line for the first two, and any old brand for the third.

        • -1

On the contrary i use the two middle sized knives the most.

        • We rarely use anything other than the big chef knife and the little one either . We buy sliced bread but on occasion bake a loaf and use the bread knife . Having a block on the bench is handy though .

        • +1

          My experience is:
          Chef's knife - useful
          Carving knife - useful
          Bread knife - useful
          Utility knife - useful
          Paring knife - useful
I'm not sure what else it includes to get to 7, but my knife block also has
          Carving fork - useful
          Cable tie - useful

        • +13

@pontiph02: my experience is, use which ever knife is not in the dishwasher

        • +2

I use all 6 pretty frequently, but the Global fluted santoku blade (not sold in this block) is the best all-rounder. Slightly less length than the large chef knife and great for vegetables with the blade depth. If you could only buy one knife I'd recommend the santoku.

        • +5

          @tight-a55: What!!!

You put knives in the dishwasher???? What a terrible way to look after a quality set of knives!

      • *knives don't have triggers. ☺

Seriously though, forget looking at brands (i know, unthinkable for most), look at the type of steel. If the maker doesn't reveal exactly what type of steel it is, choose another.

Learn how to how to sharpen a knife and also how to hold a knife.

This is much more important for beginners than having a "full set" of them.

    • How does it compare to the Henckels Four Star 8 Piece Knife Block Set C

  • There's a postage variation between eBay and the normal site for some items, $14 on website $25 on eBay. So even with discount it's cheaper to buy off the normal website for somethings!

  • +2

Previous postage was $5 now $25 on the eBay items I was checking.

    No deal Pete!!

  • Bodum Bistro Electric Red Stand Mixer

I got a roasting tray from woollies for $8.50. I will assume it does the same thing as that for 1 tenth the price

      • +1

Was yours cast iron? If not then I will assume it doesn't do the same thing.

        • -1

I'm a bit of a roast expert - you don't need anything fancy in a roasting tray

    • did you just pay $77 for an oven tray??? lol

  • they have a line of "Doe Skin" blankets called "Bambi"…

I have no idea what doe skin is (is it literal?) but that is some bold, bold marketing.

    http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/NEW-Bambi-Cottina-King-Cotton-Bla…

    • +3

Doe Skin is the colour, its made of cotton. I'm not sure why the brand is called Bambi and they are using 'doe skin' to describe the colour though. Someone does seem to be having fun with the marketing

    • "Doe? A deer. A femail deer."

$200 for a toilet brush? I'd rather not poop.
    http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/NEW-Alessi-Birillo-Toilet-Brush-/…

    • I love how they give it a posh Italian sounding name and it's suddenly $190 dearer

      • +5

I do that with my poop and it works!
I like to call it Lorenzo or Pepe.

        • +6

Well, I'll gladly pay $200 for one of these if they hurt less than the $10 ones.

For me, these things still rate as the worst inventions ever, I'll stick to the toilet paper thank you very much.

      lamborghini of toilet brushes

Your looking at it the wrong way… Since it's 20% off, this toilet brush gives THE biggest savings I've ever seen on a brush. Saving more money is good right??? I just ordered 8, $300 saved, my day is complete =)

    • I suspect it is actually being use as a mobile toilet - you poop in the toilet brush container, and then brush it off

    • Spruce up that portaloo

    • Someone purchased one, hahahahahhahha.

  • Noooo! The kettle i wanted is out of stock

    • Yessss! Bemoan to the internet

  • should include shipping since ebay takes a cut out of that too! just sayin' :)

  • +4

Bought a heap of items (including a gas cylinder) and postage was still only $11 which is the same as their normal site so I didn't have any issues with the postage charges. Based on prior experience the goods will be well packed and arrive soon and all for only $11.

    And thanks OP

  • the Bormioli Rocco Fido Airtight Storage Jar 4L, 3L and 200ml are the cheapest I can find in Australia and even cheaper with the 20% off.
Postage isn't too bad either for me, $11 postage for 12x4liter and 3x5liter to be sent

  • Nice price for their shun knives.
Rather than buying a set, I recommend just buying this santoku knife

    http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/NEW-Shun-Classic-Santoku-Knife-16…

    • I'm not a chef or anything, but what's the big deal with these knives? Is this an all-rounder knife to do everything?

  • only kenwood mixer?

black/grey sold out already only the red left

    $795*0.8 = 636 + delivery fee

    pretty good price

    and 2% cash rewards

    • Honestly, as someone who uses a blender daily for fruit smoothies, I'd really recommend this one they sell:
      http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/NEW-Magimix-Le-Blender-Black-1-8L…

And glass too, not that plastic stuff, "bpa free" or not…

      • -4

I really wouldn't want a glass blender when I do hard items like hazelnut or almonds.

And the temperatures do not get high enough to have the BPA free plastic leach into your mixture..

        • Personally, I think that is exactly why you'd want glass. Something abrasive like that wrecks the heck out of plastic, but the heavy duty glass on those would be fine. It sort of makes my uneasy seeing how abraded the plastic ones are at the juice bars, and they aren't even doing dry abrasive work on them. Abraided plastic really doesn't clean properly, and it a breeding ground for stuff. Which is why brewers don't use plastic vats, and the plastic home brew fermenters don't last long until you start getting infected loads, no matter how well you clean. I've been using a magimix glass one and is it still 100% clear.

They actually have a model there with a bonus spice mill add on for smaller quantities.
          http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/NEW-Magimix-Le-Blender-Brushed-Ch…

        • +1

Are you saying your hazelnuts can break or chip glass?

        • @hashtagbargain:

Precisely! Obviously if they made the glass bowl out of the same glass as a light bulb it would break the glass blending / grinding hazelnuts… :P

But the glass gauge on these Magimix blenders is very heavy. Any plastic blender would get just scuffed and wear particularly badly by blending nuts.

And you know what a scuffed plastic surface means? Plastic particles are ending up in what you are grinding.

        • @googoogaga:

I'd take the infinitesimal probability of that ever occurring over "sandblasted" plastic in my food from a grungy plastic blender, thanks.

      • +1

I've got the Tefal Soup maker. Stainless steel. No more hazelnut attacks!!

        http://www.tefal.com.au/Food-%26-Drink-Preparation/Blenders-…

        • All this heavy duty blender talk reminds me of that Top Gear episode where they made that "Man's Blender" where they had a V* Engine driving it, and they made a Man Smoothies with this insane stuff in it like raw beef, gravel, tabasco, raw egg. It was nuts. And one of them drank some…. I can't recall if it was Clarkson or May though.

    • its good price but not good as last 20% ebay sale where it was for 699$ (with discount $550) at Appliance online ebay store….

  • +1

Haven’t cooked a day in my life, but I have a penchant for a nice knife block on my benchtop lol.

A nice Damascus blade to slice apples, mmhmm 

    • Damascus blade = valyrian steel, jus sayin…

  • Thanks for this. Bought about 6 items. I bought some of the Full Circle range of scrubbers, the green general cleaning brush has been absolutely fantastic so I decided I'd grab a few others from the same company.. and at this price, with free shipping (due to the other items), why not!!

    • +1

Hmm thanks, those brushes do look good. I've only ever used the ones I've gotten at Coles or Bunnings, and their designed just aren't that good. These ones look like they were actually designed with cleaning in mind.
