There's video's on Youtube showing how to remove the 2.5" hitachi sata drive. The usb controller has a high failure rate on these from what I've read, but the drive itself is fine. So if it dies, remove the drive and your data is fine.
You can also get the 4tb version for ~$200:

Those are 3.5" drives and buyers also report problems with the usb controller.
The drive itself is supposedly very reliable and transfer speeds are also good.
That's the desktop version, not the portable version. Not the same at all.
I believe just 5400rmp rotational speed
Thanks very much for this post.
there's 4 or 5 left in Eastgardens at 2:22pm.
i rung up and they put one away for me, picked it up from front desk.
Anybody found stock anywhere in WA?
At least 2 more in stock at Auburn, NSW when I picked up two of them.
Good back ups. 50% cheaper than Dropbox for a year.
The lady at the electronics department was hiding them. I had show them stock level on the system for her to get them out for me :D
Thx, got one from Auburn this morning.
Seagate 4TB Expansion Desk External Hard Drive USB3.0 $150.00 @ BIGW
External drive but nice price per TB. Not much stock around so I won't make a separate deal.
I have a bunch of Seagate and WD drives. Every since their mess with the 3TB drives a few years ago I've stuck with WD. Most of my Seagates run insanely hot according to the temp sensors. The cases just aren't well enough ventilated. I've taken to spending the extra $50 on a 4TB WD (when not on special). I always go for the most basic drives because the software on the premium lines are just a headache.
Seagate hard drives have a lot of early failures, so just be aware of it in case of data disaster and repeat costs.

Bought a Samsung M3 2TB USB 3.0 Portable Hard Drive for $89.99 delivered from COTD a while ago. I am waiting for that kind of price again before I make another purchase.
Agreed, deal of the century! I just don't have the heart to accept a 'lesser' deal… as good as this is :)
I'd like to hear from others/owners about rotational speed, height, SATA or integrated to determine if it can be extracted from the case to be used in standard internal slot for like a laptop, Playstation, etc.
