TL;DR: $7USD worth of MTG cards for a few basic account setup steps
Hi folks, I've recently taken up MTG aka "cardboard crack" but with my local game store lacking a bit in the stock of cards to sell, I went looking for alternatives.
I've been testing PucaTrade for a few weeks before posting this deal to check out how the service works and so I can make a genuine referral.
Here's a breakdown of how to get the 700 PucaPoints ($7USD credit).
Step | Points Gained |
---|---|
Account Verification via SMS | 200 PucaPoints |
Upload Your Avatar | 100 PucaPoints |
Add Cards to your Want List | 100 PucaPoints |
Add your Shipping Address | 100 PucaPoints |
Mail your first card | 100 PucaPoints |
Complete your first incoming trade | 100 PucaPoints |
Here's my thoughts on the site so far, about 4 weeks usage:
PROS:
- Fixed pricing for all cards - in theory, can't get ripped off on pricing
- Friendly community, specifically dedicated to MTG trading
- Credit made from sold cards goes into PucaPoints. Magical "partner proof" currency.
- Simply gets rid of cards I may never use for cards I do actually want
- New requests for cards generally get claimed within hours, even commons
- Technically no postage fees for cards you receive
CONS:
- Can't 'buy' (but can still sell) foils unless you upgrade to a paid subscription - makes selling those nice expensive foils more difficult with a reduced market for them
- You can't restrict incoming trades to specific countries only - some trades will take time 3 - 4+ weeks
- Can only trade Near Mint or Mint cards at the moment
- Selling can be difficult as you're technically "competing" with all other sellers when a card has been request
- Must ship your sold cards in "top loaders" - plastic protectors. You'll get some in your incoming trades, so no need to buy really
- AustPost postage fees to most overseas locations is $2.75AUD, so unless you get a bulk lots of cards in a single shipment, there's less value in cards <$2.75AUD. I personally don't mind shipping cards around the $3USD mark as I figure someone else wants this card, I don't, and it all goes into PucaPoints I want.
So they do have a friend referral system too. If this post or one of my others has helped you in the past, I'd love for you to use my referal link: https://pucatrade.com/invite/gift/63869 Each referal gains 100 PucaPoints.
Do yourself a favour and check out:
- Tolarian Community College guide to PucaTrade. Maybe use his referral code, I did. He makes amazing MTG content!
- Gathering Magic's guide to PucaTrade. They have some good suggestions on using a Chrome extension to get notifications of new potential trades/sales.
Happy trading folks!
kinda pushing it for a freebie
