I paid about $25 from Deal Extreme about 6 weeks ago, so looks like a good price.

Surpsisingly good. Battery was 20% left after 53 days!

Most useful features for me is the vibrating alarm which I use daily and vibrating phone ring. This is on top of the core functions of steps and sleep monitoring.

Like other Xiaomi products, it is good quality at an amazing price.

    • i ordered 2 and they arrived today!

  • I would love one of these if they have a watch. Is there a watch or would I have to wear one on my other arm?

    • +3

      no watch

      • +2

So is there a similar one that has a watch? I wouldn't mind paying, say, twice this price for that.

        • Rumours are Xiaomi are working on a smart watch to rival the apple watch, but ofcourse like all Xiaomi products, it will be much cheaper :)

  • Waterproof?

    • yup

    • a single charge on this waterproof device will last up to 30 days.

    • +4

      Water resistant, not water proof.

    • +1

mine died on the weekend when I rode my bike in the rain for a few hours
Previously I'd always removed it for showering.
It was good while it lasted.

  • +8

make sure to download this apk rather than the official one. adds per-app notification ability and makes the whole app english.

    • Here are my download links to save others registering and posting on their forum:
      http://en.miui.com/forum.php?mod=attachment&aid=MzAzNzkyfDg2…
      http://en.miui.com/forum.php?mod=attachment&aid=MzAzNzkzfGZk…

Not sure if they will expire or are linked to a cookie or something, give it a try.

      • Unfortunately it doesn't work - asks you to sign in to complete the download.

        • +2

Ok then Plan B: go to http://bugmenot.com/view/miui.com and use the login details there instead of signing up.

        • @mikeInside:
Thanks that worked for the first file - which is the mi fit app, but not for the second.

What was the second attachment please?

Also thanks for reminding me of bugmenot - hadn't used that in a few years and had completely forgotten about it.

        • +1

          @linnaen:

The second one should be MiFit_1.3.912_401_en_notify.apk. I haven't installed them because I don't have the band yet, but according to the second post in the thread that @ausmechkeyboards linked to, it modifies the app to allow you to set custom notification colours for various phone events. It seems like you may have to post a reply to that thread (with anything) in order for the download link to be active.

I think I'll probably try the apps that @what a deal linked to first since they are open source and not so difficult to get a download for!

    • Original app is in english and works perfectly. Also it's updated frequently

  • +20

I have absolutely no need for one, but it sounds techy and its cheap so ill buy one.

Oh the woes of being an Ozbargainer…

Also, it is costing me $16.62. I demand an explanation why i must pay 1c extra!

    • +3

Buy now, ask questions later (Ozbargain motto)

      • Bought it already before i double checked the price here :P. Only made the effort to check between paying in AUD and US + convert.

    • Send cash and it rounds down to $16.60

    • hear hear

  • Yes. Some said it cannot use it in water. But I have been using it in the pool since I received it from Gearbest. Still works fine after a few times in the pool. I wish it included the watch function.

  • How does this compare to the Fitbit Flex in terms of accuracy?

    • Not as accurate like Sony Smartband SWR10 but will do

    • IMHO it is more comfortable to wear for a longer period of time and quite precise.

      • I'm glad your turning to reliable things like opinions in order to assess the accuracy. How could you go wrong.

  • I am very satisfied with this device after buying it at the amazing prices of $10 USD delivered from this deal https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/185716.

  • I wish this worked with windows phone :(

    • +4

I think there is an unofficial app available. It is hit and miss though.

      • You're right, just looked and there's 2 decent looking ones on the Windows store :). Just grabbed one of this, thanks for the heads up :)

  • Really happy with mine (can't fault it at $20). Only issue is the strap is starting to break around where you put the pellet in.

  • It tracks my movement aye? ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

    • +3

I hear some Japanese toilets can also track your movements.

  • So, how about this one? Any opinions on it?

    https://m.allbuy.com/detail/74BF014C-B768-A04D-AD28-61EBD877…

Not as discreet but I'd be interested in any feedback .

Might be worth putting into the deal too?

    • Looks like knockoff copy of Fitbit flex.

    • +2

Hmm, Interested in this also. Only thing that turns me off the MiBand is the lack of a clock. This would seem to solve that.

Appears to be Xiaomi brand also.

      • +1

I dont think its from Xiaomi, I couldn't find it in Xiaomi website

        • Same, if you put in the model number others confirm this. I'm going with the other one.

    • +1

the thing about these fitness bands is they all have their own app. I believe the Xiaomi one is the only 'bargain' band that has a decent app.

    • Android 4.3. Do not need an upgrade on users phone. Thanks for the post

  • +2

Does it work with iPhone? It would be cool if it notify user for incoming call and any other notification

    • -1

That feature does not work with iphone. But activity monitoring does work. So you can say it works partially on iPhone.

      • +1

Incoming call notification does work on iPhone

      • +1

        It does work with iphone

  • Can anyone give me like a ELI5 on how to use this i got the app and an account not sure where to go from there. Any help would be appreciated

    • Once you've created an account the app should prompt you to sync the band, if it doesn't select the menu button (or 3 horizontal dots in the top right corner) and select "my devices" to pair your band.

    • just pair it with your phone, fallow the instruction that in the app.
      its not rocket since!

      • +5

        since when?

  • does this work with sleep with droid app

  • +9

I bought two from last deal and I have one from banggood. I think they are genuine

here are some photos if you are interested

    http://imgur.com/x3beprw,D5Z9Rij,EGwISUd,BpqbUZJ,4MCLcc7,0Wr…

    • I'm glad you thought that. Any other evidence?

    • i think that's a wastage on natural resources, too big of a box for a small item inside.

  • Be prepared to wait. I placed on an order on feb 13 and I'm still waiting for delivery.

    • +1

I'd wait only 6 weeks then claim a refund through PayPal if supplier isn't keen on refunding.

      Allbuy suggesting 1-2 weeks delivery.

      • Delivered yesterday. I contacted them 3 weeks ago and they said they allow 10-25 'working days'.

  • hi guys, website says,
"Pre-requisites : The application is only compatible with the Xiaomi Mi phones running MIUI based on Android 4.4 Kitkat operating system."

what if i have have a phone <> Xiaomi ?

    • that's only for using the unlock feature iirc. as long as you have a kitkat or newer phone, it should work.

      • +1

Actually You can use the unlock feature with other phones. I am using it with my lg. But I thing you have to have lollipop to be be able to acivat it.

  • -6

    Xiomi is over rated.

    • +8

      no no no

      xiaomi is frequently misspelled

  • Has anyone bought anything from Allbuy before? Does "7-14 days delivery" really mean 7-14 days not 30-60 days?

  • thank op, bought it. but through paypal exchange it comes to $17.14 today.

    • Switch currency to AUD?

28 Degrees Card would give a better rate for USD purchases, along with some other cards.

  • -6

And another group pays money to monitor themselves with wildly inaccurate sensors to gain insight into … well who knows with wrong measurements.

    • +8

As long as it's consistently inaccurate, it will serve its purpose. If it only ever records 80% of your steps, and you do 1000 steps, it will show 800. If the next day you do 2000, it will show 1600. You'll see 800 one day, 1600 the next, and you'll know you did twice as good as the day before. Even if the capture rate fluctuates between say 80 and 95%, you'll still be able to see if you're making meaningful improvements or not.

Even if by some completely stuffed engineering it is completely useless as a pedometer, it's still a wrist mounted notification point, with vibration alarms and colour coded notification lights. That alone is worth $20 to me.

  • Thank you for sharing. I just bought one!

  • Does it tell you the time as well?

  • -2

We're all in such a damn rush to band ourselves like animals, and we pretend the data will remain private and it's use will remain optional if it receives enough adoption. 1984 was just a few years off it seems.

    • +1

we pretend the data will remain private and it's use will remain optional if it receives enough adoption.

Hate to break it to you, but Big Brother doesn't really care how fat your ass is, or if you're hitting your 10,000 step a day target.

1984 was just a few years off it seems.

Nothing like pseudo-intellectual dropping of Orwell to start the day right? Not sure if you know this, but most of these bands are essentially pedometers; they don't 'phone home,' or track your location for a secret government watch list.

      • +1

What rock are you living under. Plenty of health insurance companies are already trying to obtain exactly that data so they can raise your premiums or deny liability for that expensive heart attack.

Nothing like calling someone "pseudo-intellectual" but failing to realise the app on your phone that connects to this "pedometer" can indeed "phone home". By the way I've actually read 1984. Have you?

        • -1

Plenty of health insurance companies are already trying to obtain exactly that data so they can raise your premiums or deny liability for that expensive heart attack.

They really don't. The paranoid hysteria from last year around health insurance companies apparently trying to obtain Fitbit data to deny payments due to sedentary lifestyle, was pure fluff. No one is doing this, and certainly not in Australia. Those insurance companies that do offer fitness trackers are including them with hospitals and extras cover as freebies. The stories about employers monitoring health data were equally benign.

Nothing like calling someone "pseudo-intellectual" but failing to realise the app on your phone that connects to this "pedometer" can indeed "phone home"

These bands almost universally pair to your phone with bluetooth and users must opt into features like email updates or remote storage of personal data. In effect, it means that you can be as transparent as you wish with your health information. You can use your fitness band as a dumb pedometer… unless you believe these companies will violating their EULA for no better reason than to discreetly monitor something so mundane as your daily step count. If you're going down that rabbit hole then you might as well throw out your phone and live in a hut.

By the way I've actually read 1984. Have you?

I actually loved 1984, less so the conspiracy theorists who co-opted it.

I guess you know better than Forbes and the consultants for the health insurers then huh? There are already insurers offering "discounts" (in reality not charging penalties) for wearing the trackers and some of these programs are being used by employers in the US to get discounts. Tell me there's no pressure when your job depends on it.

          @syousef:

Do you know of any brand of fitness/sleep trackers that don't sell/give out your personal details in anyway to any 3rd parties?

This world is messed up when a simple device like this can or could be (in the near future) used against you in regards to impacting health insurance, etc.

        • +1

          @OrbDaggerZ:

There are cheap step trackers that don't connect to your phone. I have a few that were given away once. I've never bothered to use them though.

      • Actually,Big Brother does seem to care that you do your exercise: http://www.george-orwell.org/1984/2.html

Not trying to invalidate your points, though… :-)

  • is there any discount to be had buying through the app (i don't particularly want to install it if possible)?

    • The 20% off for App use is over AFAIK.

  • bought! thanks OP!

  • Figured I'd test the app before committing. No dice on iOS. iPhone 5 - enter phone number to register. All combos of my number (with/without prefix, mobile/landline etc) give me phone number not valid. ????

    • +4

I also tested the app on my iPhone 5 and had the same error as you did. I got it to work by making an account at the Xiaomi website instead. Note you have to use the international version of your phone number for them to send a verification code to. Ie: 0412345678 becomes +61412345678 for an Australian mobile.
I logged on just fine after this process and the app looks alright, but I can't say how well it works without the Mi band.

  • +4

A couple of cool open source projects to use the device without the closed source application

    https://github.com/Freeyourgadget/Gadgetbridge
    - Aims to be a full replacement of the app. Very much a work in progress but moving fast.
    https://github.com/lwis/miband-notifier
    - Allows notifications to be sent to the device. Tasker supported.

  • This will not work at all with Android 4.1.2 correct?

  • Don't know what this is. But is only 20 dollars, will buy and try…

  • Does it automatically sync with phone and send all data to smartphone wireless?

    • It used Bluetooth. It sync with the paired device. (one device/ band)

      • yep. Not constant updating, but when you open the app the band sends its data wirelessly over bluetooth to your phone. while the app is open though, it will live update as you walk. close the app, and the band still keeps track of your steps, and uploads the data next time you open the app.

but it will connect to your android phone with bluetooth low energy (BLE) for live notifications, which means when you get a call or text or facebook or whetever, the band vibrates and flashes an led of your choice (eg: blue for facebook, green for hangouts), even without the app open.

  • Would this work with a Windows phone?

    • There's 2 apps on the windows store that support it. Just search Xiaomi and they'll come up. Both look pretty capable. That's what got me to purchase one last night :)

  • Does anyone know if this will work with a Samsung Galaxy S3? Thanks.

    • What android version are you running?

      • Running Android 4.3 (asks for 4.4 or above), and I'm not sure if S3's run Bluetooth 4.0, so I'm doubtful it will work .. just wondering if anyone else is using these with a Samsung Galaxy S3

  • +1

Price is AU$16.40 - if you change to AU$ on Allbuy site before buying - and you don't have to worry about exchange rates etc.

    • Wow thanks for that. It's down to $16.35.. 26 cents bargain.

    • i've found it is usually better to pay in the local currency and use the visa/mastercard exchange rate

  • These are awesome but sometimes can be hit and miss, I bought 6 of these, 1 for myself and rest as gifts, and 2 of them are faulty. (figured money i didn't spend on fitbit)

Wish I bought them at this price though only bought them less than a month ago.
