When does it get hot? I haven't noticed mine getting hot.
I have it connected to my router and it's always hot, even when not being accessed
Check the 1 star votes at Amazon, of course not all will be bad but there are a fairly large amount of customers with early failure
It's a cheaply constructed product, the plastic looks like it's a preschoolers toy from a 2 dollar shop
I pulled mine apart and found that it has an access LED which you can't even see unless you pull it apart
Does it stay hot if you leave it plugged in to a computer?
@eug: It sure does. Warmest USB stick I've seen in a very long time. After sustained copying it feels about as hot as an over-worked HDD.
@Amar89: When did you buy it? Does it match up with the rough date those amazon reviews were posted? I'm wondering if it's a batch thing.
What if you leave it plugged in to your computer and leave it idle, like your router?
@eug: Yes that's what I meant. It's warm all the time but especially hot to the touch after sustained copying. Feels like a hard drive that's been in a nasty, air-tight enclosure.
Mine's from November last year. The harsh reviews seem to be from late 2014 and beyond. Though I will say mine is not as hopeless as some of those described, but it is cheap and nasty, there's no way around that.
They may have a fault with their USB ports feeding too much voltage frying the electronics.
I've had mine for around a year purchased from Amazon… Hasn't let me down once.
Up vote from me :@)So no issues with them at all?
I've had some with my 256GB model. The plastic slider has come off entirely because of the amount of forced required to retract & close it; luckily it can snap back on but still, it's a shoddy design and you do feel like you'll break it at times.
It's also the only USB drive I have (out of my SanDisk Extreme, Patriot Supersonic Boost, Kingston DataTraveler & SanDisk Cruzer Fit) that takes such a long damn time to be detected and initialized compared to all the others which show up in Windows Explorer ub about 3 seconds after I plug them in. I'm constantly having issues safely removing my 256GB PNY; it'll give non-stop warnings about the drive being in use well after I've closed all open file sessions on it.
Once in every 8 insertions or so, the drive will fail to mount at all; and I'll need to either try a different USB socket, try connecting/disconnecting it an inordinate amount of times or restart the PC for it to be detected again.
These issues I've seen on multiple PCs at home and in the office.
It's also slow as well, compared to the likes of a SanDisk Extreme, but you do get what you pay for.
Just some… I'm kidding.. as stated no problems on my end!
I bought 4 X 256 GB Flash Drives and They all are working fine. Speed is slow when transferring smaller files like documents than larger files like movies or virtual machines.
These are extremely good at this price.
How much did you pay for the 256gb?
AUD 95 each delivered
It is not cheapest price at what I bought for in terms of Australian Dollar but It is was lowest in terms of US Dollar at that time.
I bought one 2 weeks ago when the price is $30 + postage.
The drive is unusual.
First the speed is only half of my hitachi use hard drive
Second I have trouble to format it to fat32. Some tool report error. Finally I format it and plugged it into Sony srs-x9 , sometime it can be detected sometime not.Cannot say it is faulty but don't recommand it
These things get hot as hell and fair few people report failure after a few weeks
