  • ddr3 1600 is kind of a average speed? no?

    expected something a bit faster

Its the maximum frequency supported by stock CPU. If you want to go above that frequency, you will have to modify some setting in the BIOS.

Personally, I stick with 1600Mhz, to avoid any overclocked frequency message when starting the computer. And for 99% of people, they won't be bottlenecked by the memory anyway.

  • Good deal
    Timings are 9-9-9-24

Never heard of Geil before. Ever used them?

      • +2

They'be been around a couple of decades now. Used to make excellent budget ram, wasn't the best overclocking stuff (but that's not really much of an issue anymore) and compete with OCZ, only GeiL was more reliable. Haven't purchased any of their stuff in a while but I imagine it's still pretty good (RAM has only gotten more reliable over time, not less).

If you are getting it posted its is more expensive ($11 postage, takes it to a total of $80), you dont get a heat spreader and these are CAS11 (11-11-11-28) instead of CAS9, so higher latency for the same frequency.

Its an alright alternative if you want to buy local, but they are nowhere near comparable.

Heat spreader is just a gimmick on most DDR3.

      • A lot of people cant use ram with heat spreaders and there is always the option to pick up if your in WA…

        • +1

If you are referring the the height of the DIMM, this heat spreader is a low-profile one and doesn't increase the height of the module, you won't have any problem with, for example, your CPU radiator.
And I wouldn't go as far as saying "A lot of people". Most people use the stock cooler that came with the CPU, and you don't need low-profile modules for these types of radiators.

Otherwise you are correct, if you need the cheapest memory and you are in a hurry, there is always the option to pick it up. Don't get me wrong, I am only offering an alternative solution if you are looking for a good price, a well-known brand, decent specifications and if you can wait a few days.

    • I went through 3 kits of Geil over two years. Thank god PLE have awesome RMA policy. Ended up with G.Skill and haven't looked back.

    • Good find! Really good price.

Just a quick note, the Crucial kit has a timing of 9-9-9-24 but these PNY have a timing of 9-9-9-27.

      • Any noticeable difference?
