I used to regularly visit Woolworths in Marsfield and also in Macquarie Centre. These two stores are less than five minutes drive apart.

I've often seen bananas at the Marsfield store for a dollar more than the price at Macquarie Centre. This can last for days, so it's not just a price-changeover thing.

Why the difference for stores so close? The Macquarie Centre store has to compete directly with a Coles store, an Aldi, and an independent fruit market. The Marsfield store has no local competition, so yep, they can happily jack up the price… and do.

Before Coles and Aldi opened in 2014, I never saw any price difference.

      Viva la competition!

Yes I see exactly the same thing at Coles in Chatswood chase.
There is a good fruit market next door,
and Coles will match their banana price.
usually a lot lower than Coles Lindfield,
which has no competition at the moment.

$4.90kg in WA, both Coles and Woolworths. No Aldi here :(

      $4.90 Wow.
If they find Panama disease on many more Qld plantations,
we will probably all have to get used to exorbitant prices eventually.

    Nice price. Thanks varunsic.

  • When I follow the link supplied, it shows $1.99 and the only option for free collection is "NSW store".

    • Go instore mate. You can only buy "each" online not per kg.

      • If you follow the link it clearly shows the price per kilo, and $0.36 each.
Also, I have not been today, but I have seen bananas at a much higher price for the last three days at the Somerville store.
