Also seagate 2tb external drive for $82.10. Desktop drive though so needs powerpoint.
Shame, I've only got Word installed.
Hahaha, nice one!
He Excels at puns.
One Notes that these are excellent comments, just thought I'd Share that Point.
I appreciate your Outlook on this, however with puns like these, I'd be surprised if the post didn't make the FrontPage; everyone should have Access, 365 days to our puns
Thank you johnno. Added to post.
Great thanks
Great find! Any chance this can be popped open and used in PS4? Did my due diligence but can't find any confirmation from google search.
I also would like to know if anyone has had any luck with this drive in a ps4.
Seagates are tempting but always wanting to pay less.I'd take a punt and say no.
Otherwise you'd find a lot more reviews online advising as such as the Toshiba Canvio has been out for quite a while.
How good is Toshiba compare to Seagate or WD? Is this a gd price?
Toshiba has THE most unreliable 2.5" inch hard drives in the known universe. Lost count of all the Toshiba laptops I have come across with a faulty Toshiba hard drive.
People have been saying seagte is unreliable too?
IBM is good also know as Hitachi then named HGST owned by WD. So confused.
the 2tb seagate equivalent at Dick is actually a samsung drive.
So, this is not worth to buy?
I've had a Toshiba portable for 2 years no issues yet
I cant comment on Toshiba but i have been using 2.5 and 3.5 inch seagates and WDs for years without any issue. Whereas you can easily find plenty of bad reviews for seagate and WD on the web. That is the nature of sampling.
If I were you and i needed a portable 2tb drive i would snatch this one up right now, because its going at a great price. But what i would also do is try my best to always keep important data backed up in case of any drive failure (which is inherently a very low likelihood but not impossible).
my rule of thumb when buying a HD is $100=1TB, thats the standard retail price at how i look at (obviously i dont buy it at this price unless im desperate.. lol). So if you find a deal like this 2TB worth $100.. It's definitely a deal and worth buying.. That's just me :)
Now whether which brand is better than the other to me they're kinda the same. I've used seagate, toshiba, buffalo, WD they're all good. I think and i may be wrong is that each brand has a life span where if you reach the quota for transferring data it gets slower and dies, again i could be wrong..
@piggiepanda: Sorry I tend to disagree with you, hard drives price point per TB is around $50 per TB. 3TB HDD's are the best as they typically go for about $46 per TB.
Now when your talking about 2.5" HDD's with external enclosures this changes however I thought I would point this out for people who are just looking to rip the HDD's out of the enclosures and use them internally, unlike some clearance stock we have seen in the past this is not really worth that effort.
The 2TB external 3.5" Seagate may be, however for a $10 saving to risk warranty issues down the track and the effort to rip it out plus it would most likely be a 5400RPM drive as oppose to a 7200RPM drive the $10 save is not worth it IMO
The whole $100=1TB was considered great value back in 2010 when I bought my external 1TB seagate for $94.
But by now I expect to be buying 2TB for $100 max
@yacman: No need to say sorry.. This is all base on what i see retailers charge for (retailers i mean JB, Dicksmith). They tend to sell their HD around that price depending on brands.. I'm no expert like you are so i cant really say much. I've never seen retailers sell a 3TB External HD for less than $150… That's why when i see a 2TB HD thats beeing sold for less than $200 i consider it as a good deal, even better if it's under $150 XD…
As for stripping/ripping and just using them internally i honestly have no idea >.<
Hahahaha, it just shows how outdated i am… lol
I'll keep that in mind now… But is the 2TB = $100max for external or desktop cause i know desktop tends to be wayyyyy cheaper thatn external ones by far.. You can actually get a 2TB desktop ver. for $100.. Just curious :)
@piggiepanda: Just to clarify for you, the real difference is not "Desktop" or "external" because in a lot of ways they are the same thing. The real cost difference is in the type of HDD inside i.e. 2.5" HDD or 3.5" HDD.
3.5" HDD's are obviously bigger and typical size drives the you would put into the internals of a Desktop Computer. For these drives across all the different sizes available on average $50 is still the typical gauge per TB. I would never spend $200 for 2TB that is extremely inflated price in today's market.
2.5" HDD's are smaller and typically fund in laptops these HDD's cost more and are also more convenient due to not requiring a separate power supply. Criteria for choosing these drives as an external is purely based on purpose i.e. if its going to be transported a lot and a separate power point won't be available convenient.
I hope that helps you understand the difference in knowing when to spend the bit extra on a 2.5" HDD and when it's not necessary and what you should be paying for a HDD, internal or external.
@piggiepanda: Thanks, I was just saying sorry because I find a lot of people on these sites attack people who are not as knowledgeable or say something silly instead of inform them.
It's a massive pet peeve of mine, the way I see it, the purpose of these places is to inform and assist, if you were of the belief that it cost $100 per TB it's not my job to belittle you about it, just put my opinion across that from what I have seen that's not the case and weighing up the options these are good deals but not great (very dependent on your purpose for the HDD of course) IMO the 2.5" Portable HDD is a very good buy if that's what you need.
Oh and I'm certainly no expert, just an Ozbarginer, unless you ask Gerry Harvey then in which case I'm a "Professional" haha.
@yacman: I think i kinda understand the difference now. Question, so how much would you consider a good or great price for external HD?? I tend to buy external HD cause of it's portability and it doesn't require to plug in to a power point. Only time i bought a Desktop HD plug in ones was for my Wii U XD
@piggiepanda: Not sure you fully do, external and desktop HDD are not the same thing, nor are they opposite they are just different.
The term External Desktop HDD is for 3.5" HDD's that require power and External Portable HDD's are 2.5" HDD's that do not require separate power.
You are after a Portable External HDD, in which case this is a good deal for you to get the Toshiba, they may have a higher fail rate than WD but you need to always of the mentality that a HDD will fail one day so always have a backup of anything important.
Actually Seagate is worst. I prefer Hitachi or WD (WD bought out Hitachi though)
Massive fan of Hitachi. However the Coolspins that occupy my NAS are basically impossible to buy locally and I'm at the mercy of a falling dollar to buy more.
I've owned all brands and in my experience favour them.
I agree. Hitachi is the best. Too bad WD bought them out not sure HGST the new group has dropepd quality or not.
I wouldn't buy Toshiba, they are prone to fail. Their laptops are dirt cheap and nasty. Easy to break SAME with their HDDs
Had a laptop, HDD dies after about a year just when their warranty is out, lost everything and HDD was Toshiba as well.
Pfft. even Samsung is better
Check your harddrives though. Some toshibas have WDs insude which explains it. All my WDs have died, but my toshiba drives are still going strong
Damn it, I just got paid and now I have to buy this.
Does anyone have any good reviews on this please?good reviews, never with these traditional 5400rpm hard drive unless 7200rpm or SSD. the only good for this is bigger bang (storage) for your bucks :)
i saw the 5400rpm but i also saw that its usb 3.0
i'm not really that tech savy as i wish i was.. but i assumed the only good thing was the storage.although ive had a toshiba laptop and so did my brothers, with all of ours (HDD) dying relatively quickly.
so i'm not sure whether to take another chance.
Damn, bought last week it's $139, even after that MASSIVE25 coupon code, I still overpaid by $14.
Also, the photo of hard disk displayed on the web page is not accurate, it's not as slim as it shows, it's 20.5mm thick.
I suppose you could buy this one for $100, then return it with your old receipt for a full refund at the old price :)
DSE does not allow change of mind refund now.
Cheers. Wasn't aware of that :)
Dunk the new one in water and return it using the original receipt, claiming DOA.
Note: Obviously don't do this.
so return it as unsuitable for purpose. If they don't allow that the ACCC will be up their bums.
Seagate one clearly mentions Mains Powered.
So it does need "Powerpoint"…
Does it Excel? Need someone to confirm my Word.
Thanks.
I like your Outlook, OneNote however, Access to your files is important.
Why the vote down? Are you jealous I'm such a HotMail?
All I'm looking for is OneDrive to store my work Project, to Access between home and the Office… but I'm concerned I can't Exchange this drive in the event it doesn't live up to the hype. Whilst the price is right, Word on the street is - there are other portable hard drives that Excel in terms of value (given the current bleak Outlook regarding the reliability of Toshiba hard drives).
@Xenatos:
You missed the Live pun.
WD 2TB My Book Studio Desktop Hard Drive - $69.30
http://www.lasoo.com.au/offer/hard-drives/wd-2tb-my-book-stu…
Can't find it at OW when I click the Lasoo link.
Never used Lasoo, looks very interesting but can you actually trust this website?
It shows this network attached 4TB WD beast for 150 bucks from officeWorks but I can't simply find it in their website.
http://www.lasoo.com.au/offer/networking/western-digital-4tb…
Any inputs?
Lasoo just shows other people catalogues… they don't sell anything themselves, so it that sense you can trust them, but sometimes their information is outdated.
WD 2TB Elements Portable Hard Drive Black - $83.30
http://www.lasoo.com.au/offer/portable-hard-drives/wd-2tb-el…
Doesn't WD use a proprietory SATA connector when precludes the drive being removed and used as an internal drive? The last Toshiba 2.5" external drive I bought has a standard SATA connector.
Hi boodek - i would not have a clue
Can't find it at OW when I click the Lasoo link.
I have not tried TA - i just got this in my email and hence i posted it for whoever may need
Someone might try to go there and show them the Lasoo page online and get a price match or something
i really don't get lasoo sometimes :/
Thanks, bought one.
Good spot, I got one. Can never have enough space :)
Nice find, got one.
so…. aside from cost, and one being available online…. what's the difference between these two?

he did some research on the toshiba website.
And both hard drives have different model numbers
No stock.
OP should be updated..
although seems to be sold out.. in sydney anyway
Cheers got the toshiba one for $100.10
The last three seagate drives died within 12 months from dicks smith, despite WD drives in the same pc on the same power rail are still going strong (some have 35,000+ hours and no smart warnings).
I'm tempted to buy the seagate and crack it open to use as a 3.5" internal drive but I'm afraid to because the seagates are so prone to failure and doing so will void the warranty, hmm …
Does anyone know the drive spec inside the seagate 2tb expansion?
I have about 10 seagate desktop drives, ranging between 2TB and 5TB. None of them have failed. The oldest ones were bought in 2011. I have had 3 Toshiba drives, and all of them had issues. It is just LUCK.
Cheers. Got one.
Grabbed one, click and collect at my local. Went in to get it and…no stock. Could get one from another store but I would be charged freight.
seagates not a bad price, only a couple of dollares more than what I paid at dick smith a while back. (was then $99, with $20 discount code)
Thanks TA. Ordered one for my Wii U.
Hoping to buy another hard drive later in the year (should it be cheaper) when the next Xbox 360 update supports external hard drives.
I've got two of these Seagate 5900rpm desktop drives in my NAS and they have performed flawlessly for over 3 years.
$99 at the time (huge DSE sale), so the price point is not that different now.
I purchased it on Friday and picked it up the same day. Thanks!
Awesome find :D
