  • What will be interesting is if whether the new D9 fixes some of the issues I've been having with my current setup

1.Random internet drop outs (can be good for a few days then all of a sudden I experience a drop. Then once router is restarted I'm back online. Can be more frequent.)

Have replaced my modem before like 2 times (got a TPLINK W8960 and using this in a bridge mode with my linkysys router EA3000).

The reason i am not using the router capabilities of W8960 is due to wireless range / stability / speed. I think the router is the culprit in here but open to suggestions, dunno whats causing this. (isolation test all done and no issues whatsover, linespeed at the socket is 4MB - bit far from the xchange).

So will this D9 help ?

Cant help with your last question, but I can tell you I have the 8980 modem/router and it has frequent enough drop outs. It drops the device for some reason. Ive had the issue with an android device, a laptop and a PC in the same location. The signal is there according to a phone app and a restart of either the device or the modem/router solves the issue, sometimes for minutes, other times for days. But Im certain its the device being dropped from the list of devices rather than loss of signal. My old router never had the issues from same location as the TP Link, to same devices in same locations they fail with the TP Link.

Mate asked me to get him a new router at the same time I replaced mine, so I got him the same as mine, he has a similar issue. I need to sit his modem in the opening of a doorway, otherwise it fails to connect. Signal is present, the device is said to be there, but no data moves. Funny thing is that the old router, a Netgear sat in the same room without issue. Was tested with utorrent, sit the router in the doorway, torrents fly at good speeds, shift the router back tot he desk away from the door and it drops off until it stops (according to graph on utorrent), shift it back and it picks back up. I got a different TP Link for my inlaws before I knew of the issues being router related, and they have issues of devices losing connection too. Their old router was dropping connections too though and reason for the change.

Im guessing its setup related, but Im pretty much over TP Link now.

    • Just chiming in, a good friend of mine has been having similar problem as yours, but with an Asus RT-AC68U (connected an Optus cable modem). Both the routers seem to be using Broadcom chipset, albeit not the same exact one (BCM4708A0 and BCM4709). As it is right now, I'm not sure it's the router's problem, as I have another 2 friends who are using it without problem (one connects it to an ADSL modem, the other to an NBN modem).
I'm thinking of swapping his router with mine (good old Asus RT-N16) for the time being and see if I'm getting same problem as his with my ADSL connection.
Anyone found a solution to similar problem?

    • Maybe I'm a noob but a separate modem and router is never never worth the hassle.

      (for a regular sized home)

      • hmmm looks like as of now, this is the best bet to get rid of the drop outs.. dont have much choice in terms of good modem routers to use.

I wish i could try it one before buying it or if i could return it… ohh actually i got my previous W8960 modem from msy, so will exchange that with this deal.

  • the mechanical keyboard are the real winner in this deal.

    • The switches used in these Rapoo KB may not be aren't genuine Cherry MX, it's called 'Kailh' and they do not sport the same precise construction as real Cherry MX's, and have a variable force of plus minus 15g! This means your board may feel wonky as each switch needs a slightly different force to depress.

Many trusted gaming brands now including MadCatz and Razer have switched to using these inferior switches to save on cost, and they don't mention that in their product advertising. Sneaky bastards.

      • Really? I didnt think Rapoo used Kailh, thermaltake and Razer do, but I thought Rapoo had their own.

Either way, they're very good. Even the worst mechanical is words above the best membrane (coming from a thermaltake Poseidon user)

  • I'm looking at the Mechanical Keyboard Papoo VPRO v500 $54. Looks like a Yellow series Mechanical Keyboard according to the MSY web site. Never used a mechanical keyboard before. What is a yellow switch mechanical keyboard compared to the other colour switch type mechanical keyboards?

Here is a small review I found over on Overclockers AU.

  • Do u think wireless1 will do the $199 deal again? Should I wait?

    • They've done it twice. I waited and grabbed it the second time. Hard to say if/when they'll do it again though..

PS: With postal insurance it was $203-$204 from wireless1. So it's about $15 difference.

  • I bought the tplink D7 a while back and am very happy with it, slightly better adsl speed and much better wifi than what I had (some linksys)
D9 is meant to be better again.

Wifi streaming is no problem now from either internet or between devices (Eg computer to ps3)

    • My D9 router does not sync as aggressively as my Billion 7300n. I noticed that my Billion can do 11mbps whereas the D9 syncs at 9mbps.

Still, it requires less restarts and doesn't drop the connection as often.

      • looks like gone are the days where one used to have a rock solid signal / connection without having to worry about restart or facing dropouts.

Even after paying $200 for a modem router, ppl still face same intermittent issues then is it really worth ? but then what option do we have? REad on whirlpool as well about so many instances of dropouts (that is using 2-3 phones / 2 laptops / 1 tablet simultaneously) or may be even 4 devices at once.

try and error method ( keep burning the pocket !!)

I've only rebooted the D9 3 times since I've bought it. That's mostly to get the router to re-negotiate the connection and get the speed back to maximum again.

That's just the nature of a decade old ADSL technology and copper I guess: It's unreliable and crappy — Can't wait until I move out and get the NBN.

        • I will be honest and say I have never had to reboot the D7, had it for 6 months.

I dont think peoples problems are modem related, usually its crappy phone lines. Our problem a year or so back was the security gates caused noise on the line every time it was used.
