lol, I still not get used to Office 2007 yet.

  • yeah, hopefully they reverse those stupid icons!

    • I hope not.
But, I do hope Word has more Bibliography templates - APA, Chicago, MLA aren't used in Australia.

      • Why not use endnote?

      • +1

APA was always used at UQ in Australia. What are you talking about?

      • APA is used at QUT as well.

        • Yep, also at Griffith..

  • good find. hope it is lot easier to get around.

  • Does the office install expire at all?

  • After installing it, do you know when (if) it expires, or can you go on using it indefinitely and maybe get the final version for free when it is released?

    • doubt it..

    • too good to be true. Considering how much it sells in store…

      Microsoft + Free??? highly unlikely.

    • Does the beta version of Office 2010 expire after certain time?
The beta version of Office 2010 will expire in October 2010. Users can choose to download the trial or buy the full version of Office 2010 at that time.

      • yeah as stated in faq, expires october, which is a long way away, so not bad having this.
tried the technical preview edition several months back, quite nice. hopefully it's even better now

Here's Microsoft Word 5.5 for DOS (Y2K patched, full, completely free) for those who prefer the old (really old) interface or are just nostalgic ;-)

    http://download.microsoft.com/download/word97win/Wd55_be/97/…

  • still getting used to office 2007! i liked office 2000 the best - simple and easy to use interface !

  • how do i activate this?

    • When you register for the download it will give you a product key (or an "MAK" key as they are calling it now)

To activate, open an office program and click File > Help > Change Product Key, it will ask you for it then.

  • OMG YAY 64 BIT OFFICE FINALLY

    /Sarcasm

Same thing they did with win 7, Im giving it a go. Pretty awsome so far… Loads instantly!! O wait..

    • first off, don't see the sarcasm in your comment.

vista was available in 64bit as was xp (after a few years).

just instaling now and turns out that you must uninstal all x86 versions before installing this, means 07 has to go, really hope it works great as a full replacement.

      • I did a custom install on my laptop and it was happy to leave all the Office 2003 apps installed so I have the choice of both..

  • anyone experiencing a lot of crashes? i've used it for 3 hours so far and have it crash on me while saving and converting documents. this happens like half the time.

    • the whole point of beta is so that you can report these issues to them so they can see whats causing it and fix and improve the final product before launch. no u wont get any reward, but the satisfaction that u told them during the period they are most likely to listen and what u pay for with ur hard earnt money wont crash on you because u told them to fix it.

  • lol nothing so far…

  • it's good but i think i will only try the RC version…

  • have they announced a release date for the final version ???

    • mid 2010

  • This may stuff up your outlook. Just be careful

    • Why do you say that?

      • Installed 2010 without properly exporting the data files. After the installation, all the previous emails are there, but outlook either 1) cannot send or receive emails (says cannot open data files) or 2) can send and receive, but download all the previous read emails again (which is few hundred mb).

I ended up going with option 2 and deleting all my email saved online.

  • Sweet! Thanks!

I've used a technical preview of office 2010, but it died and was a pain in the butt to un-install.

Office 2010 is brilliant. Same ribbon bar across the top as 2007.

To give you some idea, check this video out… the video was made entirely using PowerPoint. Yes, thats right. Boring old powerpoint.

Oh, and BTW. Make sure you back up your email. Outlook has changed heaps. It now uses conversation views (similar to gmail where it groups discussions).

    Cheers again!

    • i managed to uninstall it with ease, i had it installed in addition to 2007 but the boot times were amazing, I loved it (im a big fan of 07)

      thanks a lot

  • thanks :)

  • Yeah I was thinking about posting this last night as well. I grabbed it and so far it's pretty good.

Heads up it also has a download manager tacked to the download so if you want to download it during off peak you can pause and resume the download.

  • Seems pretty good so far. Except that outlook crashed everytime i opened it. If anyone else is having the same issue, go to control panel, mail and delete the profile and re add it. You will need your account settings so it may be a good idea to write them down before you delete the profile.

  • I've been using office2k7 for a while now, and this seems very similar.

  • Attempting to get it now. Not quite loading properly though, is it possible that the server's getting swamped?

    • Mine downloaded in just over 10 mins today..@ 1.2 MB/s.

Would be good it was mirrored locally, I'm sure it will be eventually.

  • Wow, thanks for the heads up. Came just in time as my Netbook's Office 2007 home/student trial just expired, haha.

Also: For those who don't like the ribbon interface introduced with Office 2007 and want their old menu system back, take a look at this. http://www.ubit.ch/software/ubitmenu-languages/ It's free for home/personal use and it supports Office 2010 :)

Is this really a bargain… testing Beta software???

    • If your not dependent on it for business then I think it's a good piece of free software, usually by the time software goes to public beta it has had a decent amount of testing. The last thing Microsoft want is beta testers blogging / posting negative feedback.

That said, of-course there will still be bugs, almost everyone understands this.

Any ideas why I can't get into it? I click "Get it now" and am presented with spinning green circles indefinitely..

    • Works OK for me (just tried), and I'm even using Firefox.

      • I think you inadvertently answered my question haha.
I was using Google Chrome, which it failed to load with.
Firefox worked a treat however, thanks, didn't even think about the browser :)

        • Amazing really, it. was not that long ago that Microsoft crippled hot mail if you were on a Linux machine.

They have obviously since accepted that fact that ppl will choose to use whatever suits them, I thought I might have had to use IE + WGA :/

  • Downloaded and running Office 2010 - works really well.
