Then catch the Hawaii flight - Not the best but not too bad.

  • wow so cheap.

  • When is the good time to go to Hawaii?

    • +6

      anytime

    • After you've done more planning & budgeting. Plan at least 1 month in advance. For two we ended up paying all up $11+k for two weeks. Inclusive of flights (jetstar return and Hawaiian airlines), activities, car rentals, food, lodge, shopping. 4Nights in HL & rest in Maui.

Learnt while already in Hawaii the cheaper options -
      * Hostels & Camping
      * Travel with 4 people to share expenses.
      * Limit your stays in one or two places or else you'll be hit with ridiculous cleaning fees.
      * Book your activities there. Many coupons or special offers from brochures.
      * Check out GROUPON for any cheap lodging deals.

** If you are a beach bum then it can work out cheap.

        i stopped reading after hostels

        • We didn't stay in Hostels or go Camping. That's what I found out from other travellers I met during my stay. There is also Airbnb and Condos but you'd have to book way ahead of time.

        • @j03:
Spent over 3 weeks there across three islands and don't reckon we spent that much.

Maybe you need a few more $3.99 breakfasts in Kuhio Ave.

        • @Steptoe:

Bahha. Thats what I said. "don't reckon we spent that much".

Then I put it all in an excel sheet. I must admit we didn't have $3.99 breakfasts.

Rented suv for the entire trip exploring both islands.

Most money went down the drain on accommodation. mistake no1. booking too late means no cheap deals. mistake no2 moved to too many accommodation added to that ridiculous cleaning fees of over $100USD each time. we basically just used our lodge to store our luggage during the day and sleep at night for 5-6 hrs. 90% of the time we were out and about. I reckon if i wasn't with my fiance I'd be quite happy sleeping in the parking lots.

probably over indulged a bit on scuba (molokini dive was disappointing and so overrated), sailing, a couple of tandem jumps.

As many have pointed out the POOR AUD to USD was a killer factor too.

        • errr. "cheaper options" = ultra budget seekers = students, some singles, back packers and the like, adventurous, etc

there will be those ozbargainers that will be sucked in impulsively to the "cheap" hawaii flights, booked to leave in just weeks. Only to find out "hell the accommodation are super expensive".

many of the hostels do offer secure "private rooms" with your own key (not shared room). It can mean a savings of several hundreds per night over Hotels or even AirBnbs. There will be th "some" of us that will only be using it for sleeping at night.

          Obviously not for all.

  • Best time to go is not now, not until the AUD/USD is better, currently the ANZ exchange rate is AUD$0.73 to USD$1.00.

    • Aud -》 Usd will continue to weaken over this year.

      • AUD is definitely going at the wrong way now, even holidays in NZ is too expensive now.

You could also visit cheaper on Google Street View ;)

Just booked for 2 adults from Sydney in October for little over $1000 return… bargain!

  • wow this is a bargin - too bad the exchange rate sux

  • I think you'll find flight prices will look more attractive as the our exchange rate takes a dive and reverse when it gets better!
