  • What the hell? A usb monitor, do they have some type of integrated graphics card?

    • No. You can daisy chain usb devices. The advertisement is wrong. You plug the monitor into the output of a graphics card, of course.

      • You can plug into a graphics card with VGA or USB.

      • robbiequinn, you don't have to plug this into a graphics card. You can literally plug it into a USB port and extend your desktop, clone it, whatever you may like. They're relatively new, been out for about a year or so. You can even get USB adapters these days that link USB->DVI/VGA/HDMI.

But as RayEarth explained you can't really play games with it. They're good for office PCs which only have 1 display out, so you can use 2 screens with one using DVI and one using USB.

    • Yes it's got a displaylink chip, but you won't be able to play games etc with the USB as it does not support DirectX.

It also supports conventional display via VGA.

      • I stand corrected. The Samsung site doesn't make it obvious in the description. I only verified this by downloading the manual. I could do with one of these.

  • Would this be able to handle 1080p HD video at a reasonable frame rate when hooked up using USB/DisplayLink? My assumption is that it won't, but I'm curious if anyone has first hand experience with one.

  • I bought a 19'' of this type from COTD for $130 around 6 months ago. Very good quality. Never try the usb display though, but it is possible.

  • That's really interesting, +1

  • It's a built in graphics card through USB.

You can buy these USB graphics cards on their own too.

The reason you can't play games on it is because a GeForce or Radeon in USB would be pretty difficult for cooling and size and throughput.
