Renowned for his love of fitness and affiliation with the Queenscliff Surf Life Saving Club in Manly, Tony Abbott has donned his infamous red and blue budgie smugglers on many aquatic occasions, whipping media and the general public into a frenzy of eager anticipation every time this glistening political Adonis exits the water and runs onto the sands of Sydney’s Northern Beaches.

Possibly photographed more than any other swimwear in history outside of Borat’s lime green mankini, these iconic Speedos were found in-situ, freshly worn and salt crusted, on a bench in the change rooms of Queenscliff Surf Life Saving Club by a member of the Society of Australasian Domestic Interior Executives (SADIE), who has verified the item’s authenticity.

    It did actually sound like a genuine Groupon deal given that no one would pay a single penny for those budgie smugglers. So I clicked buy now and there comes the actual joke "15% off all deals".       The real point is Groupon, who as a business should probably keep away from politics of all sorts as it's going to offend 40-60% of their customers depending on how people vote at any one time and the demographics of their customer base.

      If Ms Gillard were modelling her underwear in public then it would be held to the exact standard.

      Besides it a sacred Australian right to have a chuckle at anyone who puts themselves on display in the ole smugglers.

          If he were wearing this just as a surf lifesaver sure but I believe there is more to the uniform ie shorts and vest these days plus it's not just the red ones he's photographed in.

          When I was growing up it was understood that people wearing Speedos while in a contest or patrolling a beach was OK. Otherwise it was just posing. And posers exist only to chuckle at.

          btw. being a Liberal does not make everything you do cool.

          If you really want to compare apples to apples which would be more sensible. If Rudd or was seen posing on the beach in the smugglers he'd cop a razing. In fact Keating used to get one for being over dressed. Even the Hoff cops it.
