Hello everyone!

For those who are interested in the HTC One M9, Vodafone has them for oddly low 12-month contract prices. Doing some contract math,

95 x 12 = $1140
RRP of the HTC One M9 = $1099
RRP of Telstra's HTC One M9 = $936

1140-936 = $204

204/12 = $17 per month

$17 per month for 3gb of data (4gb if you sign up online before 9/4/15), unlimited calls / texts, 300 standard international minutes in Oz and 6 months free spotify / SMH access is a pretty good deal, in my eyes anyway.

If you were to go on their equivalent 24 month contract (70 + 10), you'd still be better off taking the 12 month contract and then going on Vodafone's $50 Red for the other 12 months

$80 x 24 = $1920

1140 + 600 (50x12) = 1740

EDIT - It's probably better value to go for the $100 pm (80 + 20) if you're going to use the 12 months of spotify - the extra $5 over 12 months = $60, while the extra 6 months of spotify = $72. (Plus an extra GB of data!)

Not sure how long this'll go for. Thanks to whirlpool for raising it up!

MMS - wtf? I don't know anyone that's ever sent an MMS. 4G data seems like a bigger drawback on lyca, but I guess you couldn't be argumentative by using that as your drawback.

Sure lyca might pull the promotion, but it's running for a few months now and some other company (amaysim, hello, lebara, vaya) will run another promotion down the line.

Signing up for this 'deal' just to get a cheap calling plan seems like a lot of hassle.

        • @sp00ker: an SMS with an emoji is an MMS, also photos

HTC finding innovative ways to continue losing the tech war in the mobile phone space.. That m9 is worth about 500-650 tops IMO.

    • I wound say… $125… Hahahahahahahhaha

HTC is excellent, but even at its own product launch, none of the execs seemed too excited about this phone. They spent barely five minutes on it and five minutes on the fitness tracker before devoting the rest of the time on the new virtual reality headset. Yeah, everyone in the industry is raving on about how great HTC's VR device is, but I'm disappointed that they'd compromise on their phones (and a flagship at that) for what is basically an experiment. It seems more like an M8s than an M9.

I think I'll wait on this one. Rumours suggest a bigger, "Plus" version of the M9 will be released mid-year some time. That sounds more appealing to me, assuming HTC puts some effort into it.

    • Totally agreed. A pity…

  • Surely when you are comparing this against 24 month plan you need to figure out what you would do for the second year? You will be paying for BYO plan or prepaid.

Some might find this handy. Created a spreadsheet to compare different options when getting a new phone. Used the M8 as an example. Some of the options might not be relevant to some of you. eg. Telstra PrePaid Encore is not available to new customers, Optus Corporate is available to me through work. Anyway might be useful to some of you: https://www.dropbox.com/s/2i0dyhvsvfi1o17/phone%20comparison…

its funny how HTC M9 which retails $100 dollars more than the s6 varient, (m9 32gb $1099) can be had on the 12 months plan $95/month,
yet the s6 which is RRP $100 cheaper at (32gb $999) is offered for $118/month on the 12 month plan, both on the same plan.

    nice pricing vodafail..

    UPDATE: It seems the $80 plan+ $20 handset 12 month offer has gone up from $100p/m to $120 p/m ($80 plan + $40 handset).

    • +1

Yeah I was looking at this last night and after the former pricing there's no way I could buy this phone at these prices.

  • Expired.

Now shows as 70+46 over 12 months.
