  • Same at Big W - if you can find any stock that is.

    • Big W is $17 as far as I have seen, Kmart is the cheapest so far, unless Big W changed prices since Thursday?

      • Bigw, still have them for $17.

      • Oh damn. I bought some when the last wave came out and they were $15.

in one of the Wii U facebook groups I'm a member of someone claims they saw a local video game store owner buy all stock of Amibos in KMart, Target and EB Games. I think there is a lot of ebay etc. sellers forcing demand for these items.

Ive seen a lot of stores with stock on Thursday, as the new stock was released yesterday

    • Is that Kmart the pic is from? Kmart had no stock so I went to Big W on Saturday and they scanned at $17 :/

      • It's Kmart.

      • Some Kmart's will be hit and miss, try to go to a store that isn't in a popular part of town, I've grabbed a few Amiibo's from Kmart Brandon Park

        • Swan View WA here, and I've got a cousin in Rockingham; will get a report on our locals and report back.

  • Ah, they've got those other region import ones in.
Not as valuable as collector items, but I supposed if you're going to throw away the packaging then it doesn't really make a difference that they're Japanese.

Can anyone detail which Amiibo are available? Obviously the 3 in the pic are being stocked, but how about the wave 3?

    • not all of them are jap.

      • I see the updated picture shows the Mario Party ones. I was referring to the Smash Bros range.

Just on principal I can't believe people buy this crap. I like video games but surely people can tell they are being ripped off by this kind of stuff?

    • +7

I don't know what you're trying to defend. I've seen plenty of manbabies buying replica Assassins Creed Swords, Chainsaw Guns, or Night Vision Goggles, all while calling Nintendo games kiddy with earnest sincerity.

      • +1

I wasn't thinking of the toy aspect, I was thinking of the game to value aspect. Brand new how much does the game plus all the amiibo devices cost?

The amiibo devices do not add any new content, they just unlock what was shipped already with the game. I think of these as those crappy DLC that are already in the game which you then have to pay to unlock. Why, it is already in the game?

        • +4

So that would be the same for the other NFC games like that spyro one or Disney unlimited etc.

The game is there, you just unlock extra people or stuff/levels with the physical DLC.

People love it. My kids do.
I have about 8 sitting on my shelf, doing nothing. But they use them for smash Bros or mario kart. Little value but the kids… All about the kids

I've loved Nintendo since I was given a NES as a boy, sure it's just plastic, but it's pretty plastic that makes my man cave look pretty!

        • @diddy50: also, the new batch can't be used with mash bros and Mario party, it's one game or the other on each amiibo

        • -3

          @diddy50:

Yeah, I mentally put all those game devices in one basket of hate, but I only think of this a game value for money.

Problem is, I'm spoilt with Steam for the PC. I grew up with expensive games on consoles, but sod paying more than $40 for a game now. My Wii U has very few games unfortunately for me.

Kids I understand, having them for toys I might understand (I haven't looked at them to see the quality), but the game to value… Nope.

@FabMan: I've seen people upload photos on fb of having a "Smash Amiibo Tourney" where they watch their fellow Amiibos duke it out #cringe

@Astro551: Maybe you just don't like what others like?

Christ, some people like Ponies too. Should we ban small horses now?

        • +1

I was thinking of the game to value aspect

I'd say that's why you find them a rip off while others don't. If you're only consideration is the DLC component then yeah, they may not be great value (although the Toads content that was added this week looks interesting). A lot of people buying these are doing so for the figures first and the digital content a far second. In fact, on Whirlpool there seems to be a pretty decent number of people buying up the entire collection with no intent on ever taking them out of the packaging.

    • -1

Yeah, we shouldn't have to pay for anything. That's why I pirate everything.

      • Okay

    • +2

I have them all. I do not feel ripped off. I also do not think they are crap :)

      • -3

I know people buy it, as it sells, but I think it doesn't add value proportionate to what people pay.

The game costs, erm, I don't know, $60 say, and gives you 75% of the game. Then each device costs $15 but it adds no new content to the actual game, but it unlocks content and you can now interact the devices with your console. The game content is already included, it was there at release, you just paid an extra $120 (8 x $15?) to unlock the last 25% and so you can move the devices back and forth to the console.

I enjoy DLC for games where you pay a few dollars to $15 for game content that was developed after the game was released. That seems reasonable to me.

But what does it matter what I think, lots of people think video games are for idiots or kids and I think they are wrong.

        • +1

I am not sure anyone has ever bought an amiibo for the content. It is for the figure. The unlocks are a bonus. If you collect anything like this you would know they are very cheap for what you get.

The fact that they are not unlocking parts of the game like skylanders for example it a good thing as some people just want to play the game and could care less about the physical product

        • @Dany34:

I see, well, people like paintings, models, pots and books for decorations and for looking at, so I can see the appeal to this. I judged this based on Skylanders business model which many companies are now copying because it is so profitable.

        • +1

@Dany34: I don't personally collect these. I do however buy them (Skylanders, Amiibo and Infinity) for my kids. I made them a shelving display for them in their bedroom and they love it. They also use them in their games a lot. They get a lot of enjoyment from them.

However, in no way are they cheap - especially if you are not going to use them at all.

        • @FabMan:

Better way to think of it. Spot on

        • @Where's_That_Cake:

They are by far the cheapest figures I own. I have collectable figures and statues that cost hundreds (Paid $500 for one) and many are worth a $1000 plus. In that mentality these are cheap but I see your point

  • Has anyone noticed the Party Bowser doesnt have good paint and details as the Smash Bros Bowser? Party Peach on the other hand looks nicer than Smash Bros Peach.

    • +1

I think all the smash amiibos look better. Peach has much better detail in her smash form but each to their own.

  • -2

    every amiibo

they definitely don't have every amiibo

    • -1

Can confirm every amiibo on sale for $15.

      • They don't have every amiibo is what JV is (correctly) saying. Some are extremely rare.
Must stores have between 0-6 different amiibos on display.

      • They don't have every amiibo released, but what they have they have @ $15.

    • Or they have none at all at Footscray and moonee ponds.

  • They must have missed my local Kmart stores as both stores had none :-(

  • +2

    bargin193232222

    Because "bargin193232221" was taken? :P

  • Seems to only be in the larger Kmart stores - in WA I've seen Booragoon and Joondalup have plenty, yet Innaloo have never had any.

  • every amiibo, every store, everyday

No amiibos available at either of my local stores (Parramatta and North Rocks NSW) despite OP's confident claims…staff didn't even know what they were.

    • -2

Every store that stocks video games.

      • North Rocks and Parramatta both stock video games…

  • -1

Fine, every store that sell amiibos.
